Why do you need to get personal with a person who likes black colourways?
Why do you forget there are sweet prints with colourways that have black, but jewel toned accents?

By the way, I personally dont care whether a different colour gets a name. It's losers like you who go full autist over getting your hate boners on I don't understand.

No, here's the post by the snowflake who invented the term:
http://egl.livejournal.com/12264316.html

The term bittersweet lolita literally did not exist before then, you can search the internet, use the wayback machine, do whatever you want, you will not find a use of the term before this date. Japanese lolitas or brands don't even use the term even today, it's completely foreign to them.

Which brings us to the next part: Brands have been putting out pastels on black for YEARS before this. The name for pastels on black? Sweet lolita. Same genre as pastels on pink or pastels on blue. Only clueless noobs think that something has to be pastels in order to be sweet (hence we get the same discussion every year on AP going gothic for the fall or Halloween season)

Conclusion? "Bittersweet" lolita was invented by a snowflake because she wanted a new name to describe a style that already existed. Hence anyone using that term is usually associated with snowflakery.

Are you trying to imply that color is the only thing that matters? There are black classic dresses too, those aren't bitterclassic. Are white dresses in goth supposed to be called something else? Snow goth? Powder goth? No, that's stupid as fuck and so is the term bittersweet.

Styles are defined by their overall look, sweet is sweet because it has the theme.

>cute shit everywhere
>overly princessy
>usually childish or sweet motifs
>fluffy bow covered bullshit

It can be black, white, brown, puke green whatever. It's only when the style crosses into more mature territory that it crosses the styles, and even then, it's all about how you coord it.

The bottom line is, a black colorway is no different than a pink or mint colorway in design, motif or style, and if you think 'being black' makes it different then you need to explain how other than 'it's black'. Because if two coords can be the same down to the accessories the color doesn't change the style you fucking idiot.

What about them? If I'm taking them seriously(which is difficult) their names make sense and are right on the fucking nose because tumblrtards are too unoriginal to come up with good names.

Pastel goth is only called that to set it apart from things like bubblegoth which has a very similar aesthetic. Creepy cute is even more self explanatory.

See, I'm going to give you an example.

In creepy cute, you have to utilize a 'kawaii' thing and then turn it weird with accessories. You can take an AP dress and use it in that way. Even though the dress is sweet, the accessories aren't really, so yea, it needs a different name, or it can have one rather.

What you're trying to say is that if someone has a full set of milky berry in white, and black, the coord is somehow different and needs a different name. But that's just not true. It would be the same as saying a white gothic coord that is exactly the same as a black gothic coord needs to be called something else.

Why? There is no differentiation. None at all. 'Bittersweet" only refers to the black colorways of dresses, not worn any particular way, not coorded any differently, just the background color and no, that's not a defining factor. It's stupid.

Yeah I don't think you quite understand hon. Black doesn't automatically mean gothic. I think maybe to understand you should ignore colours you associate with styles and work from the motifs and cuts.

Sweet, gothic, classic are all very broad sub themes of Lolita, and just as you can wear a white JSK in a gothic co-ord, you can wear a black JSK in a sweet co-ord.

There is no need to give black with cute themes its own title, since it is just sweet lolita in a black colour-way. Other substyles have obvious differences that set them apart, for example; sailor, has different cuts, collars, trimms, accessories and motifs to standard sweet. Similarly, country lolita, (argued as sort of half way between classic and sweet, but mostly sweet) uses different cuts, motifs, accessories, fabrics and even laces (its more common to see eyelet laces in this style, even some crocheted items).

As a descriptor, I think bittersweet can be an accurate term, but not as a sub-style. The closest thing that exists to bittersweet, currently, is creepy cute. Creepy cute, if it gained a more widespread following would indeed be a substyle of sweet-lolita as there are differences in the style in regard to generic sweet. Although it shares a similar colour palette and fabric selection to standard sweet the accessories and motifs are vastly different, defining it as its own particular style.

TD:LR Substyles are defined by their obvious differences to their “parent” styles I.e sweet, gothic, classic.. “Bittersweet” as it is popularly described is just a sweet dress in a black colour-way, it has no stylistic differences to sweet in; cut, construction, motif, trimm, accessories, lace or fabrics etc. It is not a substyle of sweet.

Look. Just stop fighting with everyone and take in what people are saying. You want a "bittersweet" to be a substyle- but it can't be because above all, it is still sweet. You can't have a substyle within a substyle. You CAN have motifs with the print, bag, hair, etc. and dress up the outfit with said motif in mind.

I think bittersweet is a cute term for black sweet dresses because some of the clothes/accessories you have to buy to match cannot typically suit the rest of a sweet wardrobe. Since it requires a specific color that generally clashes with other dresses/looks in the Sweet category, I see no harm in it having a separate name especially of a Lolita has many bittersweet dresses and often dresses that way, but still has typical sweet dresses in her wardrobe. (She might like to say "I am generally bittersweet, but I also wear sweet and classic," or whathaveyou, which gets the point across that black sweet dresses are a big interest of hers.)

Also I see bittersweet as a subcategory of sweet, kind of like OTT sweet being a subcategory of sweet. There are many subcategories already. In fact I'm surprised more popular ones like chocosweet haven't become a thing yet.

"Chocosweet" would be a motif that someone has. Not a subcategory. You can't make chocolate it's own category. Just like you can't make black-sweet dresses it's own category. Both are parts of sweet; they just have different motifs.

OTT isn't a subcategory either- that's how you want to style yourself that day. Over-the-top. You can't have OTT as a subcategory; just because it was a trend. OTT happens in each style (classic, gothic, and sweet), so labeling it as a subcategory is ridiculous.

I think bittersweet is a thematic thing as well as being a black colorway. I see it as not just being any old sweet print in black, but as the lolita counterpart of pastelgoth with more mature (for sweet) or gothic motifs (like your stereotypical bats and crosses) with accents primarily in lavender, pink, white and mint.

Really surprised how much I hate SNT in black considering I like everything in it and Angel of Music has a similar scheme.
