Sure, animegao looks identical (when done with quality, which is rare) to the source, but its full purpose is to cover the face of the wearer, usually because they know they can't transform their own looks enough and they want to stay anonymous due to certain kinks that community is said to have.

And don't nitpick on my words when you can obviously read. Since this whole subculture creeps me so much, I once went to a regular con kigurumi-GUY and his assistant (who does the talking for him for anonymity) to get educated and they explained to me how the things work:

Different anon, but that's because fursuit making is a craft, so if you're going to commissions hundreds of possibly thousands of dollars on a costume, you're not going to want to ruin it with your bodily stains. There's... I think two or three fursuit makers who openly make sexual suits on commissions? And that's out of hundreds of them. If it is used for anything lewd, it's probably home made. Most makers I know will have contracts that involve warranties, and if you edit your commissioned suit in any way (mostly lewd shit) then they won't fix it for you.
A lot of bigger makers just don't want involved with that shit, and I can't blame them at all.

Prewarning. Almost all Japanese makers will not work with foreign customers. The biggest one (and only so far) I know is RadyWolf, and he charges /somewhat/. You can probably find a Western maker who will be willing to mimic the style though. Also Qiqi is a qt.

Yep. I'm friends with more furries than I'd like to admit, and the ones that see it as a fetish are definitely looked down on. Yes, furry is a lot about sex. But frankly not more than fandom in general is. The only reason it's been saturated so much is because it's more sensationalistic to want to fuck your favourite character if they're part animal than if they're an anime character. Now I'm not saying it's neccessarily normal to be into fur but there's also subfandoms out there where character snuff porn is a big thing and that's pretty much the same level of fucked up.

I personally got into furry because I was young and real human porn as well as drawn human porn felt too weird and personal, as did fanfiction with characters I already knew. Furry was an outlet to me because it wasn't realistic and it wasn't characters I knew. But even then that is such a small part of what furry ended up being to me and it's so weird that it's the only thing about furry I ever talk about.

As someone who's no longer active in the furry comm, I can assure you that you're pretty naive.
95% of the furry community is into it sexually. If they weren't at the start, they soon succumb to it.
I have yet to find a furry without furry-related porn in their art gallery and/or favorites.

Sexuality/sexual identity ties in super heavy to everyone's identity/character/fursona/whatever.

I don't hate furries more than I pity them. Whether they were ostracized from people in the first place or they just plain rejected people via their own free will, it's just sad the way they live.
Most of them claims to have some kind of mental disorder and proudly state it like some kind of badge of honor.

But, shit, no one wants hear about how bad I feel about someone identifying as a furry.

Basically, here's what it is:
When a lolita dresses up, she dresses up in cute clothes and may put on some airs. After the clothes some off, she goes back to being a "normal" person who does "normal" things.
Unless she's a little out there, she doesn't truly believe that's she's really a princess, through and through, and act accordingly.

A cosplayer may put on an act while in costume. But, same thing, at the end of day, it's just a costume they take off and resume their normal life.
They don't really believe they're Sailor Moon or Misty, or whatever they're cosplaying.

With furries, a vast majority make up their "fursonas" as an alternate version of themselves. They put traits in them that they want to have, and it make it their own.
Roleplaying is huuuuuuge.
Their fursuits? Again, the majority of people who own them feel more comfortable is their suits, like it's "who they really are", and it's "who they are comfortable being".
At the end of the day, a lot of them really believe that they are/are meant to be their fursona.

I say "vast majority", because, sure, I guess not 100% of them are like this.
