It's really not that bad. Hang around the crowd, jump into conversation if anything interests you or just spark one up. I understand what you're feeling though. A little bit of alcohol always helps if you can drink it. Met a good handful of friends at the meetups along with other cgl friends so it might be fun just to at least attend for a day. I have yet to met a terrible new person from the meetup. If you ever see me, you can at least strike a cnvo with me!

That's a real good spot to go, near most of the hotels and parking lots and also not a bad walk from the BCC. I'm a big fan of Alewife as well, which isn't too far of a walk either.

And this doesn't particularly pertain to the meetups but I did hear from a friend that Tiffany (who is running all 3 alcohol panels at Otakon) has managed to partner with a bar in Mount Vernon for afterparties both nights.

More than likely. There aren't any hotels that aren't either in the ghetto or some multi-room suite, so I'll have to commute each day which doesn't make me too happy.

I saw that they were down to only 8,000 tickets left. God someone is making some huge cash. . . no wonder they have their dinners at Mortons.

I'll still give them my $80 USD, try not to pass out from the heat on Thursday to pick up the ticket and the matsuri, go home, back on Friday for as long as I can take it, back home, back on Saturday for a few panels, back home.

For the record the public transportation from the convention center to D.C. is crazy. They obviously never wanted people from D.C. to come and see the Orioles, did they? A big scam cooked up by that attorney who owns the Orioles and the National League probably, to keep D.C. fans safely watching the Nationals instead of the Orioles.

My normie friend is coming with me this year. Originally she wanted to wear my old Gogo Yubari cosplay, which she would have been perfect for (God tier /fit/ Chinese girl that does physique competions), but today she decided that she wants to wear a lolita coord so we'll "match". She doesn't really know anything about lolita and the coord we (mostly her) came up with isn't ita per se, but she has DD implants and is built like a petite She-Hulk so... while not the "ideal" lolita aesthetic, she does look pretty dang cute.

Moira O'Hara is a pretty half-assed closetish type cosplay that I wore for Halloween last year. I need to make an eye prosthetic for it and find the rest of my stuff.
Sailor Uranus looks like shit but I'm done giving any fucks really.
Ragyo I just gave up on maki the wig light up and focused on the actual dress itself. I've seen so many with nice wigs, but the dress just falls flat. I also have so little done I don't know if I'll even finish it in time.

So I found out today, based on my recent dinner trip, that Restaurant Week is going on throughout Baltimore until the 10th of August. This means awesome food at affordable prices all over the city, as well as unfortunately longer than usual waits nearly everywhere. But it's a great thing to have going on during Otakon in my eyes, even if it takes you away from the BCC for an extra hour.

There are a number of great places, especially for seafood. Depends how far you're willing to wander. You can get up to Mount Vernon pretty quickly and see that, though the monument is covered in scaffolds for repairs. Lot of great spots to eat there. And as mentioned earlier in the thread, it's Restaurant Week.

HEADS UP TO EVERYONE: There is a scammer in the Otakon facebook group. He's made multiple conflicting comments claiming to be in England, then like 2 hours later said he was about to drive to Cumberland MD. First he said he was from England, then he said he was temporarily living there, while his profile says he lives in state.

He has been pretending he doesn't understand American currency, and attempting to guilt access to people's hotel rooms. He has private messaged openly gay men in the group trying to flirt his way into their rooms, and now he is claiming that he has decided not to attend the con and wants to "sell his badge". DO NOT GIVE HIM MONEY, DO NOT ALLOW HIM IN YOUR ROOM. He is falsely claiming to be autistic for sympathy, and has claimed he cut himself because someone called him out for being a scammer.

PLEASE BE SAFE AT THE CON AND DON'T FALL FOR ANY SCAMS LIKE THIS. Do not allow strangers to stay in your room last minute. Do not buy badges for cash from people- they may rob you and take the cash and ditch.
