There was a bra thread a while ago where someone posted an online shop in the UK where you can get a bra custom made for you after sending them images and measurements. Does someone possibly have the link?
Also general bra thread

Can't help much with that but I feel like a bra champion right now. The Lane Bryant nearby is moving and everything is 60% off so I got two bras for less than one. Also does anyone have experience with Soma bras? There's a shop for them here but all the ones I try on there, the underwire rolls up weirdly.

Is there a way to match up your 'actual' bra size to more, I guess, conventional sizes?

Depending on where you shop some places will do a 30 band. The rule is usually "up a band size, down a cup size" but if you go up a band size often it'll be too loose in the back - you shouldn't really be able to do a bra up on the tightest hook with ease when first trying it. I recommend trying a 32DD, but also try and find a store that does 30 band. I'm in the U.K. so not sure what stores you have where you are, a 30 band is fairly easy to find in big retailers here.

I don't have a single bra that even remotely fits. I have a tiny band size and a huge cup size. I plan on going to a specialty store to get fitted, but their website says to come wearing my best-fitting bra.

Why the fuck would I go in for a fitting if I was wearing a bra that fits? I've been going braless.

Will they still be able to measure me braless? I would think it would be a more accurate measurement.

>> No.7268858

>>7268836
Yes they can. If they say they can't then nope the fuck out of there. Some fitters are amazing and just measure your underbust to get an approximation of band, then magically fetch bras in cup sizes that fit, just from experience. Fit isn't just on measurements either as all brands vary in size - I have bras that fit in three different band sizes and different cup sizes on the same band size, depending on brand, so don't get hung up on being one specific band or cup size, as long as it feels supportive and comfortable when worn

>> No.7269837

I found out the major problem with most readymade bras. The wires that they use in them are often much larger than the actual size they should be. For example: In my 32 inch band, they use a 36 inch sized wire. I only recently found this out because of this website www.bramakerssupply.com/ they have a wire chart and after scaling it properly I found out the bras that fit me the best are ones that acutally have the correct wire size for the band.

Last time I got dressed in front of a friend she told me I put my bra on the wrong way. The way I've always done it is hook the band in front, then turn it around so its the right direction, then put the straps on and adjust.

She hooks the band after putting the straps on, doing it from the back.

I wear 32A push-up because total flatty here and throughout the day, my bra will slip upwards and my boobs will fall out under my bra, like total underboob going on if anyone lifted my shirt to see. At first I thought my straps were too tight, but when loosened, the bra doesn't fit comfortably anymore, though obviously it's not comfortable if the bra slips up all the time either. I even tightened the backstrap to the tightest and slippage still occurs. My ribcage under my boobs is actually 28 inches, so might this problem be because I am wearing a bra with an incorrect band size or am I a flatty forever subject to 30A sports bras from the little girls section of department stores?

The US media and retailers are all huge liars and mislead 80~90% of women into believing bust size = band size. I'm pretty sure most women in this country are wearing the wrong bra size, and it's a huge issue because most retailers here won't carry real actual sizes (just the same 8 or 10 sizes). Going off of my own measurements I have a 30" underbust and a 36" bust, so I should be wearing a 30F. I've tried on dozens in this size, along with 32 e's and d's and they are all really uncomfortable. The bands either feel really tight, or are too loose to give the right amount of support. Even though it's wrong, I end up using straps for support since I hate the confinement of really tight bands.

I was raised in a anti-bra household, I didn't start wearing them until I was 13 and even then I would take them off as soon as I got home. The habits have stuck with me (I'm happy about this due to recent studies in how bras aren't entirely healthy) which is probably why I find them so constricting now. Noe I'm forced to wear one during work 8+ hours a day has been awful, and i'm not sure what to do.

Has anyone else had this issue? Wearing the right size but finding them really uncomfortable? Everyone I've mentioned it to says they are way more comfortable when they are wearing a bra, which is a mindset I can't even imagine.

I'm really trying to figure this out now. In the past, I would hook the bra together in front of me, twist it around, and "flip" it up over my breasts, putting my arms through the straps as I went. I can't do that with my bras now--they're underwire bras and flipping them was messing with the fabric of the bras. I can't hook the bra in front of me and twist it round right-side-up since it would just get stuck on my boobs on the way round. How exactly are you putting your bra on? Do you use wireless bras? Is it a matter of bust size? Maybe it's easier for smaller busted ladies to do the twist method--I'm 30H for reference (though I actually need to go down another band size and probably up another two cup sizes).

I think it is magic. People forget that bra sizing is about as standard as clothing sizing, i.e.not at all. I think band size= ribcage size is turning into myth in the same way band size= ribcage plus 4" is still some fitters' mantra since it all really depends on how it fits you. It's like saying "I'm always a size 6", that depends on store, brand, and sometimes even item of clothing. It varies incredibly depending on how bony your ribcage is, how much muscle you have on your back, sometimes even the shape of your ribcage. Some people wear band sizes smaller than their ribcage because they have squish, etc. I find a 30 or even a 32 band works best for me as a 28 band can give me actual bruises even though my ribcage is 27.5" and I "should" wear a 28 band.

Taking over bust measurements for your bra size would be the equivalent of taking your shoe size for pants measurements. Don't do it, and if anyone suggests doing it, laugh in their face and walk away. Instead, without wearing a bra or a shirt, lean over so your back is parallel to the floor, and measure your bust that way, making sure it's not too tight.

Next, standing upright again, measure your underbust. Breathe out while you're doing this, and make it as snug as you can, without it being too uncomfortable. If it's not a whole number round to the nearest number. If it's an odd number, then go up an inch. This will now be your band size.

Next, find the difference between your bust measurements and your band measurements, and this will be your cup size. iirc, each inch is a cup size, so for me (bust:38, underbust: 30) I'd be a European 30FF (American 30DDDDD).

If you have migrated tissue you can train it back over time; you'll probably eventually go up at least another cup size after buying a more properly fitted bra.

You can measure yourself at home for a better idea of what size you are and order online, but sometimes bra fitters can help out. I've only been fitted at JCPenney's. Victoria's Secret (that place's idea of a bra fitting is a joke), and Dillard's. All three tried to push me towards ill-fitting bras since they didn't carry my size in their stores even after I pointed out problematic areas. Maybe a specialty boutique would be better, but don't feel obligated to buy from them if you don't want to. Use the excuse that you have to sleep on it and then leave if you feel awkward.

Try a 28E, 30D and maybe 30C. You may even wear a 32C at times. Different manufacturer's will fit you differently so don't worry about the sizes, just have a ballpark idea. Your friend will probably want a 30H/32G depending on how the sizing works (some places go A-H without DD/FF others include one or both)

>>7270903
That's because your band size is way too big. Go down to a 28 band and up a couple of cup sizes, maybe even look into custom ordering a 26 band (but it's worth trying a 28D, cheaper and easier find online)

Any tips on how to loosen a bra other than continuous wear?

I concluded I was a 28F so I bought one with a cute pattern and was inexpensive. After a few wears it's still tight enough I had to buy a bra extender and the edges of the cups dent my shirts. I try putting it through the washer and dryer everytime I do a load but nothing works. I could have returned it at no charge but I really like the design and they were out of my typical American size.

This is driving me crazy. I'll measure myself by an individual site's standards, and they will have nothing that fits me. I tried entering my measurements into VS' calculator for my fit according to their brand, and they wouldn't let me enter my band size because it was under 30.

I'm getting really frustrated. I do not have a single bra that I can squeeze into comfortably. Not a one. The closest I have, I muffin top so badly that my nipples frequently slip out.

I hate this, I hate everything about it, I just want to wear something comfortable and supportive that won't fuck up my breast tissue. I can't even squeeze into my sports bras anymore.

I've used a bunch of different calculators, and my most frequent result is 28GG, but I've also gotten 26GG, 26H, and 30H.

Does anyone have any good sites that carry unusually large cup sizes for small band sizes? Preferably one with its own fitting guide, so I can measure to their standards?

(Sorry to rant a little, I'm just really fed up)

What is an expensive bra to you, anons? (You two specifically but also this thread as a whole)

I used to buy cheap bras, but once I got a little older and figured out my real size (28 DD/E), I realized that my boobs/body were worth it. This is related to the availability of bras in my size (30B), the fact that I can get cheap bras that fit me amazingly from China (seriously, they build some with wide straps and three hook backs - what's not to love about over-engineering for small boobs?), and the general price range of my actual size. If I was a hard to fit person or hard to find size my cut off for expensive would be much higher, I think, but the expensive bras I have tried on and owned don't differ noticeably in comfort from my cheaper ones so I buy them only if I fall in love with the design.

You arent going to get good bras for 15$. You can tell easily by the number of people getting 50$ bras here. You can always hunt for sales, I do that and then buy a few as they are always 2 for 1 kind of deal, and should work as 34 is a pretty common band size so there is a lot out there. But normal price for bras is going to be more about 30ish, even a common size like 34b.

It seems like small band sizes seem to be a reoccurring problem in this thread...

For people who would like to receive a proper fitting and have the opportunity to actually try on some bras (as opposed to simply buying online ) Nordstroms is actually a really good option.

The smaller locations stick to more standard sizes, but if you live near a city with a larger store they will offer a really wide variety of bras. I was fitted at a 30DDD/E, and was shocked when the attendant continued to bring me bra after bra to try on. She was really involved throughout the entire process, helping me into the bras and checking for accurate fit, so I know that I'm finally wearing the right size (as opposed to VS who simply do a quick over your clothes measurement... I mean come on guys.)

>> No.7275565

>>7275526
Small band sizes and pretty much all the cup sizes related to them are a recurring problem because there simply isn't the same variety that you get with "band 32-38, A-DD" sizes. Bra manufacturers either only make basics (white, black, beige, plain t-shirt bra) in smaller sizes or target them towards tweens/young teenagers, so you get cutesy prints, no underwire, and certainly no pushup - which is kind of the opposite of what I want in a bra, I would much rather have pretty lingerie along the lines of Agent Provocateur/Elle Macpherson Intimates/Von Follies. At larger cup sizes/smaller bands, it's usually that there are only speciality brands doing your bra size, and so all the bras are comparatively quite expensive, and again, the style range is limited. Not to mention that the fit between brands and styles is different anyway, so you may find only one or two bras that actually fit properly and that you like once you sort through them all.

Panache is a company that I've had a lot of good experiences with, and the larger Nordstroms locations carry their products.

That would be why your breasts are sore, then. I would find the closest speciality store with a good fitter if I were you - and go try on some bras. I say "with a good fitter" because if you've been wearing the wrong size bra for ages/putting them on without doing a swoop and scoop/putting up with a lot of discomfort, you may not be able to figure out the best fit and end up shelling out a lot for a bra that isn't a great fit on you because it's "more comfortable" rather than "as comfortable as it should be".

Yeah, they're not as massive as people think a G cup is because of cup size in proportion to band size - the volume of a 30G breast is more like a 34DD-E/36D-DD. Obviously someone wearing a 34G is going to have much larger boobs compared to someone wearing a 30G. What happens a lot of the time is people go "okay, so I have big boobs. I don't fit any of these bras in a 32 band (because they only have A-DD in most stores), so I'll go up to a 36DD." That fits them fine in the cups, but then they invariably get a sore back/boobs and think "Bras are uncomfortable and painful to wear, my breasts give me back pain, I should get a reduction eventually" rather than "Maybe my bra isn't the right size"

I used to wear a C but now I'm an F cup. This is pretty common. If you look at the chart of bras, F is right in the middle, so it's no wonder that most C cups should be F cups (and not be considered 'abnormally' large). Thanks, that actually makes this all make more sense. I'm currently wearing a 34C, but according to that I should be a 30G (Sophisticated Pair says 30H, not sure if I can really believe that). Are you sure you aren't supposed to be in an even smaller band size? I wore a 32A for years, thinking that it was fine because that was the smallest size available in most stores and was comfortable enough, then recently found that I'm actually more comfortable and supported in a 30B. Doesn't sound like much since there's not a lot of boob involved but it made a world of difference for me. I had previously tried 30B and actually found the band far too tight, to the point of digging in and leaving marks, but that was 2003ish so I suspect fabrics and sizing may have changed a little? I have 32A bras that I bought way back in 2004-05 and hardly wore due to them being ugly, and I have to say that the band/fit on them seems similar to my 30 band bras now from the same brand.....

Ok so the Freya site does go off of the modern day underbust = your band exactly and the difference between full bust and underbust = your cup size, right? Their fitting guide won't load for me but I want to finally get a bra that fucking fits. Been wearing 36 DD forever but I've never had a bra sit correctly since my measurements are 30 underbust and 37 full bust and the cups just kind of... sit on top of the bottom of my tits like an inch or two and the back strap always ALWAYS slides up and I fucking hate it. So I want to take the plunge and buy an actual bra that fits from Freya. But I want to make sure the sizing I'm using from the modern day calculators and threads is the same they use.

That is probably a sign of a bra too big in the band. The band shouldn't slide up and your straps should just sit where they are because most of the support is from the band, if the band is riding up then of course the straps will fall down. If you're wearing a larger band size, I suggest going up the cup sizes as you go down.

>>7276494
Since you've been wearing a 36 band for so long you are probably going to find a 30 band really fucking tight the first few times you wear it, if you can get to a store that carries a 32E/32F that might be a good starting point for you. The trouble with relying on measurements is related to the variation between brands, and even fitters get it wrong. For instance, I have a friend who wears bras in 28 and 30 band depending on the brand, and can range from anything between an F, FF, G and H cup in both band sizes depending on the way the manufacturer does their sizing, the style of the bra, and just general variance. Bra sizing is unfortunately like clothing sizing these days, there is no real standard for it.

Not necessarily a bra question, but it's related to supportive undergarments for women while cosplaying so I figured I'd ask in here before starting a new thread about it. Does anyone have more detail about ballet tights? I heard they're good for leg shaping and a lot of cosplayers use them, but after going off and googling more about them, most aren't supportive, or they only come in pink or white, not flesh coloured. Does anyone know more about support for the slightly wider-thighed lady? (not a euphemism, just genuinely hour-glass shaped for better or for worse). Also, if I am on the right track, could anyone recommend a good place to buy them please?

Maybe not in sex ed but it should be more widely spread, even lingerie shops/departments having pictures of a range of women wearing a fitting bra that says their size underneath and an explanation of how cup size and band size work in dressing rooms would help.

I still reckon 30G is a decent amount of boob for a thin person but it's definitely what the uninformed public would think of as a C or D. Especially as a lot of women don't know how band/cup size work and probably imagine their own band sizes G cup on the person's body.

Yeah, I tried on a 30D the other day (to be fair, it was sized really weirdly - large in the band and small in the cup) and was like welp. So much for D cup being huge boobs. I think it also depends on the shape of your boobs and how they sit on your chest - top heavy boobs always seem to look bigger because they give mental amounts of cleavage and visually come out forward from the chest more than bottom heavy ones that sit closer to the ribcage, even if they are the same volume/size.

I know that it's said commonly that so many women wear the wrong bra sizes, but when my tiny friend said that she wore the same size as me (34c) it really sent it home. I am 5'10 140, very athletic so I am fairly slim, but I have a very large rib cage. She's 5'1 and has a very tiny frame, and is about as slim as me relatively. There's no way in hell she has the same band size. For that matter, most slim women must also have the wrong bra size because I hear 34b or 34c mentioned from just about everyone I know as the size they wear, and I know they do not all have the same size rib cage as I do.

I wear a 38A since I've got the breasts of a twelve year old. I can simply look down my shirt and see a gap between the cup and my boobs. Combine this with the fact that I can only find my cup size in the children's section and it becomes impossible for me to find bras that fit and do their job properly. I'm just a bit confused as I don't understand which measurement is which, are you saying 30 underbust and 34-35 bust, or 34 ribcage and 35 bust? It sounds like you need to go down to an AA cup, which is available online. Ah that makes sense, well I think you should get the band extender first, slip it into your handbag and go shopping for the smaller sizes in stores - then when you're trying the bras on, if they fit in the cup and not in the band you can just stick the extender on to see if that works. Your best fit is probably going to be a 34A or 36AA, the latter is harder to find though so you might want to try a 36A on first.

Not that anon, but people do have issues with band size=ribcage if their ribcage is particularly bony or unusually shaped - given that her bust is only 35" maybe that's the case. I wear +2" myself, as I get bruises from wearing a bra using the +0 method.

America is cray. I couldn't even find a 32 band in stores when I was there let alone my actual band size. The reason the band "fits" in a 34b is BECAUSE the cups are to small, your boobs are taking up some of the band stretch! Buy from the UK. Everywhere has a 30 band! Although I have to say, budget (i.e. big department store) bra shopping here is mostly disappointing for me due the shape being all wrong. In their demographic, 30Bs have teeny perky boobs that are perched very front and centre and have most of the volume projected forwards, kinda like teeny tiny implants. Even a lot of sports bras don't really work. Do I think bras are comfortable? No, not really. But for me at least, they're better than going without.

I would recommend the Bendon Max Out, Berlei Electrify and Shock Absorber Level 4 B4490 if you want to go for something with decent support that doesn't break the budget. I find most crop top style sports bras, even "high impact" ones, to be shit for me - the Berlei is the closest to a "normal" bra if you prefer your sports bras underwired.

Okay so. Really busty Canadian who prefers reliable online stores with fairly reasonable prices (college student with a tight budget).
The bra i'm dealing with right now is a 34E. i'm on the tightest hook, and spilling out of the cups. Its the only one i own that keeps me even a little bit contained. There's been loads of 'busty' or 'plus size' stores floating around my tumblr dash lately, but every single one starts at a 36, which just seems to be too big around the band whenever anyone at a store tries to stick me in one.

any store links for me?

Do you have any examples of some brands that produce light bras? I can't go without support when I'm out and about either, but I'd like to give this a try.

That's depressing. I might actually have to move south in order to find bras that fit. Don't get me wrong, I don't live in the middle of nowhere, I do live in a city. But we don't seem to have any stores that stock the right size and it's really annoying. We have a small Elle Macpherson store locally, but it doesn't stock anything smaller than a 32. They just say to me I can order online. It's frustrating! I know I can order online, but the issue is I want to try on the bra first because I've had so many issues with fit that I don't want to order online just to have to send a whole bunch back because they don't fit right.

Try a 34F or even 32G. Have a look at some of the stores mentioned further up the thread. Ann Summers also has nice bras in larger cup sizes and they're having a sale

Are there any Anon's here who have a cup size or larger difference between their breasts?

How do you measure?

I try to just add extra space when I measure, but I don't know how accurate it is.

(sorry if this was already mentioned)

>> No.7298248

>>7298232
I don't have that large of a difference, it's like 1/4 of a cup difference if that, but for a really revealing cosplay I actually made a pocket with batting int for the smaller breast and sewed it into my top.
I would measure and fit the larger breast myself and maybe get some inserts?

>> No.7298257

>>7298248
I can't use inserts due to positioning issues. I mostly just need to know how to measure to get an accurate size to make sure the larger boob isn't squished.

Like according to the Reddit guide linked at the beginning of the thread, I could be anywhere from a DD to an F, but I can't really get a perfect measurement due to the difference.

>> No.7301214

>>7298257
Measure like you would if they were both the bigger boob and find a bra to account for that. After you find a bra that's good and fits the bigger boob you'll have to add inserts, padding, socks ect in the cup that has the smaller boob.

If you really can't just pop something in (Braza Dolly Super Wedge is really good or socks), then you'll either have to deal with it, tighten the strap as much as you can on the smaller side, or gets a custom bra made.

It all depends on where you are hooking it. If you are able to hook the bra around your ribs then twist it around, it's probably to big/you're stretched it out by putting it on that way. If you are hooking it around your waist (assuming your waist is smaller than your underbust), then doing the old twist and flip, you're just fine.

>> No.7301262

I'm having trouble figuring my size out. I thought I had it right so I bought new bras but they all hurt. My bust is 34 and my ribs are 31, so I got a 34B. Is this right or what? Help please!

I have about the same sizing as your friend (I'm a 31 underbust 41 bust) and I usually wear a 32G or 32GG depending on the brand. She should probably look into 30 or 32G sizes and see how they fit.

>> No.7301276

Anyone know of any really good sports bras for a gal with a full bust and a small figure? I wear a 32G/GG and most sports bras are pretty much useless. So far I know about Lynx and Panache but I'd like to do some more shopping around before I settle.

Does anyone know where I can find a good bra ffor tiny people?

Even the chinese shops on ebay, everything is too big. I need a 29B or so?

I'm usually stuck getting 32B which aren't too bad, but they slide around a little too much.

The only small size bras I can find are training bras, so they just... smoosh my little bit of boob down? I need a tiny sized pushup bra. And I can't seem to find one.

You'r band size is wrong. If you're measuring right under your bust and it's 31, your band size is 32. Try a 32 C. The band will feel a bit tight at first (That's good) and it will loosen up over time (that's when you begins to tight your hooks.).

Shock Absorber

>>7302517
I would recommend trying a 32C and 32D as well as the 34C if you feel that it fits well. Your measurements are closer to being a 32C than 34C, but a 32D has the same size cups as the 34C. If you do find the 32 band too tight, just remember that +0 is a guideline, not a rule, and some people are more comfortable in a bigger band size.

>>7302571
Have you looked at any of the store recommendations on this thread? If you are a 32B you are likely to fit a 30C or 28D. 30C is bloody easy to find online and there are heaps of push up bras in that size, you can legit just google and look for them. I'm based in the UK so Boux Avenue is my go-to store because pretty underwear that fits. You need to go to taobao for Chinese shops that sell underwear that fits you and look for a 65 size.

The problem is that the 32B is too big. I need like one size smaller, but an A squishes me and is uncomfortable while still sliding around.

>> No.7307397

>>7307152
Well yeah, if you can, try a 30B and 30C in stores. It sounds like you need a smaller band rather than smaller cup size, if the 32A is squishing you but still moving around then it's the band that's the problem. Given what you posted, I assume you've got a ribcage of 29" and bust of around 32" which will probably put you in a 30C. If you are buying online it's probably worth noting whether you've got close or wider spaced breasts and whether they're more top or bottom heavy as well as the general shape, as that can help guide you in terms of which styles of bras to purchase as well. herroom has some good tips.
