I'm starting to really like toned down kind of sweet styles, but I've done classic and gothic for so long and I always struggle when I'm putting something together that's outside my comfortzone. At least, when it comes to making my own outfits anyway.

Would someone mind taking a look at this? I'll be wearing the matching tie that I have for that JSK; not the jabot.

>>6285774
I think my only problem is the shoes, I don't think boots look particularly sweet and kind of offbalance the rest of the outfit.

However I really love the rest and would totally wear it. Did you consider white tights?

As in, try white tights with dark low boots. The kind IW uses.

>> No.6285804

>>6285790
I agree about the boots but white opaque tights always look costumey to me. Instead she should try and use crochet ones maybe? If she wants toned down sweet. If she's going to be wearing kneehigh boots then you won't see much of the tights anyway.

Good point about the boots. Would something like these be okay? In the case of the "plain" boots on the right, I would attach a bow shoe clip to the lower-most part of the shoe laces by the toe. (I was thinking of making a bow shoe-garter for the ones I originally used as well)

Unfortunately, most of the Secret Shop/Antaina/etc boots that I've tried fit all loose and wonky at the ankle and crinkle up in a way that's not at all attractive. I suppose I could try again?

I'm making a damask skirt in fabric kind of like this, would this work as a co-ord? Are patterned tights and patterned skirts too much? I was thinking of vertical stripe tights instead.

Also, please ignore the top, mine is properly black and the neckline and sleeves are nicer.

I think the kind of hair style that you have there looks best with a hat (pic related). A vintage hat with a veil always looks great with gothic coords and would be really pretty for this outfit. The good thing about wearing a hat is that you can still use the pearl hair pins. Otherwise, I would go with a bigger, slightly more elaborate updo. I can post some suggestions if you like.

As for the accessories, you could amp up the "gothic factor" of your outfit by tweaking them slightly; mainly the necklace. Chokers look great with open necklines and Schwarz Schmetterling makes some great ones that are gothic-friendly and incorporate pearls. Similar items aren't too hard to find on etsy if that's out of your budget. You also can't go wrong with a pearl rosary.

Might I also suggest a structured, vintage-style bag? Or one of those classically "gothic" ones like the MmM coffin or bat-shaped purses. AatP makes some handbags that would also work beautifully.

Also, out of curiosity, what do the sleeves and neckline of your top look like?

Firstly, thank you - I'm just relieved no-one's gone "oh, how ita!".

Secondly, hat and bag. Of course. I knew I was missing something - can't you tell I'm new to this? A hat with veil sounds really nice, but I would love updo ideas too! Also, a pearl rosary sounds great because I've been thinking of getting one anyway - never thought of combining the two.

In deference to your question I have taken a rubbish photo of the top. I've put it next to the VM blouse that it kind of reminded me of - in shape, not in decoration! It does work with a skirt on top of it, as I've worn it that way before, but if it's a completely inappropriate top for lolita, please let me know before I make a fool of myself.

It's a little bit plain for lolita, and certainly for the look you seem to be going for. I think you'd at least need a pretty frilly cardigan. Blouses are a difficult one though- maybe look at some plain black ones with a white peter pan collar? Those would look cute with the outfit you've got planned.

Had another go at this, taking people's advice. I went for a theme of roses, but stuck with the rosary like anon suggested. I love the idea of chokers but I can't wear them personally (ridic. sensitive skin). Ideally, I'd like the lace items to match up, or at least have a floral lace pattern.

The only thing about that coordinate is that I'm not sure how the cutsew would look with the dress. Sometimes they look okay, but the yoke might sit a bit awkwardly. Try a pink blouse or bolero?

>>6295237
Although the pink in the headband appears to match a little better (I can't read the note you wrote for the hat, sorry!), I think a hat looks best with the style that dress is in. A different sort of hat may be better, though. Especially if the shape of that one is more like a bucket hat when you wear it.

Maybe try wearing a pair of lace or crochet tights? They would really give the outfit more of a classic feel.

The heeled boots would definitely give you a more flattering leg shape; it could be just me, but flat knee-high boots make my legs look stumpy when I wear Lolita.

Also, I'm wondering if the print with the skirt and the sweater might be too busy? A brown skirt with lots of details like ruffles, pin-tucking and gathers would still be visually interesting without looking too cluttered? A fur (real or faux) collar would also be cute.

Additionally, I've personally found that those style of hair combs have trouble staying in. If you find that's the case, you can always switch them out for a headband or do something like this:

Maybe with a rose corsage and some pearls threaded through your hair to top it all off?

That dark brown brown looks a bit off with that shade of gray and in my opinion the hat doesn't go well with the dress at all. I would also try to better match your metals. The bangle looks like it's made of brass and the necklace and earrings look gold.

That dress is gorgeous, by the way. Because it's very classic, the items you've picked for it seem a little out of place (although the bolero would be nice in a different color). I think it would be really pretty if you went with a sort of "snow queen" sort of theme and coordinated it with whites, frosty blues, white pearls and silver.

I like this one! I think those crochet/lace accessories look great with the dress. I would go with fancier shoes, though. Something a little dressier would match the look of the JSK better. However, those mary janes would look adorable with a casual coordinate. Make sure you carry a black bag to match them.

Also, it looks like the blouse is offwhite while the dress is cream. It could be my monitor, though. Either way, most combining those two can be tricky so unless you balance the two out really well, it's best to stick to one or the other.
