My hair length is pic related. I don't like the idea of wearing wigs. But I feel like the lack of volume up top makes my outfits look unbalanced as everything is poofy/decorated. I don't often see pics of lolitas with short hair. The only ones I do either have a crappy dye and/or are too alt. What do you guys think I should do? Big hat? Cape, hoodie, veil? Just wear a goddamn wig?

Wig or extensions unless you're insanely attractive and wear classic with a damn nice hat in which case you'll barely if at all get a pass. There are no good examples for a reason. It's a hyperfem fashion, and most hair that short just innately reads as masc.

It's gonna be hard. I have my hair in a very structured nose-length 20s-style bob with straight blunt bangs and it looks off sometimes if I'm wearing anything too fancy. This is the only coord I had on hand with that style that didn't look ita. You have to really commit to looking put together.

As often as you need to. If you can smell BO, food smells or deodorant on your dress it needs washing. If it has stains or looks dirty, it needs washing. If your dress is directly touching your skin it will need washing more regularly than if you wear layers underneath.

I'm in the process of moving and I have like 20+ pairs of lolita shoes. Shoes include tea parties, bodyline rhs, and varies lolita heels from taobao. I was thinking of getting individual clear shoe storage boxes from amazon to put the shoes in but 80+ dollars isn't something I'm willing to pay just to move shoes. The other way I thought of moving them is to get big plastic bins and then bubble wrapping each pair of shoes. This is to save space and I would throw away my shoe boxes due to storage whenever I purchased a new pair of shoes. >> No.10886686

it depends on how crazy you are. also how much space you have. i have a huge house and keep all my stuff in it's own room so i basically just buy whatever i want but now i have almost 500 main pieces and i think that's unreasonable for most people. i rotate them in and out to try to atleast wear them once every 2 years. i think reasonably 200 would be a stopping point though for a reasonable person. also before anyone asks the room is set up like a walk-in closet basically so it's not some hoarder plastic bin deal.

>500 main pieces
Lol
>reasonably 200

Lmao even

And here I thought "reasonable" would be around 100. I have ~75 "main" pieces (jsk/op count as 1, skirts/blouses count as 0.5) with 15 more in the works and I consider it a healthy amount. I barely buy things now, but when I'm hitting 100 I'm dumping stuff. Already there are some things I almost never use. It becomes too much. With 100 in a year you repeat 3 times and half of it a 4th. That's reasonable. Unless lifestyler means not repeating once in a year. Then fair enough, I'm too weak to be one.

Depends. A small lifestyler wardrobe could be 25 main pieces (dresses and skirts) but you would need a lot of blouses, accessories, shoes, bags, etc to keep variety in your outfits. And this will only work if your wardrobe is versatile, meaning your main pieces can be coorded multiple ways and go with many other items in your wardrobe. To make it work you're probably going to have only one sub style, and might even focus on one or two colors. But even if you do repeat an outfit it's not a sin.
Smaller wardrobe means your individual main pieces get a lot more wear so you have to pay extra attention to how you clean and store them. You might have to do repairs. Being able to sew (or knowing someone who can and is willing to help) is important. You would probably be more comfortable with 50 to 75 main pieces.

As many as you need to wear lolita almost every day. You could do it with 10 but your clothes would wear out extremely quickly. I would recommend at least around 30-40, but you’re free to start wearing lolita daily whenever you want. Don’t let arbitrary numbers online scare you.

you're going about the question the wrong way - really, to be a lifestyler, in the way that means that you wear lolita every day, that's achievable with ~10 to 15 pieces. You could even do it with just 7, but you'd have to do laundry constantly, so something like 15 where you can wear every dress twice and only do laundry maybe one or two times a month is more doable. But yeah like >>10886705 says you'd have to supplement the pieces with enough blouses, shoes, cutsews, cardigans, and so on.
500 is hoarder tier and is no way normal for anyone lifestyler or not.

you can totally make 15 work. i was wearing daily as a newbie with around that many, just making new combos with the same few dresses. even now that i'm in the 80s i still gravitate towards the same 15-20 or so for my actual daily outfits and the rest mostly come out seasonally or for events/special occasions.

get some staple pieces-- stuff that can be coorded dozens of different ways. in my opinion for lifestyling, the amount of versatile staple pieces can be more important than the number of total mains.

good exercises for practicing this: try making capsule wardrobes, or doing "one dress a dozen coords" type challenges. remember that one main =/= one outfit and hoarding is not a prerequisite for lifestyling.

>>do you still see new pieces you want, or do you feel satisfied with the size of your wardrobe?
i feel like it is a lot, but the reality is these pieces, especially prints won't last forever so it's nice to know that they won't degrade from constantly wearing them and once they do i won't be clamoring to replace them. plus i am fond of the 2010s look and those pieces are harder to find. because of that i haven't seen much that i'm lacking.

adding to this, you shouldn't feel bad about having too much or little. what's right for you and makes you happy is what's important. so keep yourself in mind most of all. every day when i pick out a coord makes me happy, and wearing pieces i haven't in a while helps give them new life. feel free to ask me anything else.

>Q: do you have any stories about dating while being a lifestyle lolita?
my husband is also into jfash(he wears EGA style and knew lolita before we met) so i feel lucky as well. it did take a lot picking through fetishy creeps to find him though. online dating taught me to be smart about asking questions. if they say they like the style you should ask why and kind of bait them, men especially tend to easily out themselves. as for the story, a friend tried to hook me up with her cousin. he was her roommate and claimed he was getting into EGA/ouji and started to tag along with her at meets in an ill-fitting infanta coat. he seemed friendly at first and genuine about the fashion although he wasn't well dressed. so we started talking on facebook a bit. slowly some red flags started popping up. he asked me where i got many of my outfits and scoffed at the price, linking me cheaper things from cosmates of all places. he would send ita anime lolita and maid cosplays, telling me i should buy them and how they would suit me and how he wished he could wear them. i actually mentioned he could look into brolita because it was more common back then, but that was a mistake. i remember him saying he wanted to cosplay ciel from black butler as well, in that notorious dress. i started to reply to him less but didn't know how to tell my friend i was getting a bit suspicious of him. then one day he was drunk and sent me some pics of him in the worst, fetishy maid dress(that may have been from bodyline) and that's when the sissy fetish finally came out. he said he wanted to be my "perfect maid" and doll and basically asked me out at that point. i was actually with my friend at that time and showed her the messages she actually laughed at him. i stopped responding to him entirely after this and his cousin told him i was a lesbian and luckily he found a cosplayer to date. it's kind of funny becaue recently i found out that he is now "gender queer" and crossplays all the time.

I bought a petticoat from Amazon at least 8 months ago as my first petticoat for lolita. The petticoat has a decent amount of volume so I’d consider it a good decision (considering I didn’t know if lolita was for me yet). 2 bodyline pieces later (1 skirt, 1 JSK) and the petticoat was holding up well enough. then I noticed that my petticoat had significantly less volume in the back of the dress compared to the front (Note: this didn’t happen when I wore the petticoat under my non-lolita clothes). I just came to the conclusion that this was happening because most of the lolita pieces in my wardrobe are more gathered in the back compared to the front (expect for my skirts, I have 2 now). I would just brush this off as a Amazon problem and buy a petticoat with a bigger amount of poof but something that surprises me is I’ve never seen a lolita ever have this issue (even in the ita threads). Should I just buy a more expensive petticoat or is there something wrong with my lolita dresses I should be aware about? I’m guessing it’s just that most lolita pieces aren’t made using the circle skirt method.

can you wear Lolita with no or minimal head accessories? pic rel

>> No.10887029

>>10887014
You can technically wear lolita however you want (no headwear, no blouse, no socks, or whatever else) just don't tag it as lolita or post it in a lolita group. But it will be considered unbalanced/incomplete without headwear by other lolitas if you post it in places.

>> No.10887030

yes, it's called classic and casual. specifically it works best when you really want your dress to be the statement piece, or you're going for a mature, understated elegance.

an elaborate, elegant up-do with minimal/no head accessories (think a small headband, subtle clips/barrettes/combs, etc) looks great, and at times too many or too flashy hair accessories can take away from the coord. hats and berets are also fairly common in cases where the head needs something but a big flashy bow doesn't suit the theme.

seen way too many classic coords ruined by ott-brain and overdone headwear that takes focus away from the dress.

Jfashion is an incredibly broad term. Anything that comes out of Japan technically falls under it, but even when focusing on alternative styles there's a huge variety. Plenty of styles are gender neutral like decora, goth-punk or aristo, or in some cases have a masculine counterpart, like gyaru and gyaru-o. Nowadays lots of guys don't adhere to a particular aesthetic or label and just wear general creative street fashion. Check out some snap accounts and websites and browse through, you'll find there may not be as many male followers of certain styles but they're definitely out there.

Are a significant amount of lolitas getting fillers and plastic surgery?
I was surprised by the amount of lolitas who edit their pictures to make themselves look younger and more beautiful, and as long as it's not uncanny valley levels of editing I basically don't notice until I see that person irl or they appear in someone else's pictures unedited. I think this group would be open to procedures and treatments, perhaps more so than the general population.
I don't know if I care enough about keeping up the illusion of youth to actually get fillers or plastic surgery to appear younger. There are things you can do/get such as botox, chemical peels, thread lifts and even surgical face lifts. And these things can make you look younger.
I'll just stick to skin care for now. I don't know if there is going to a be a point where I will actually think I look too old to feel comfortable wearing lolita. I will probably never get to the point where I will think that way, I don't think having a face with visible signs of aging means you have to stop wearing lolita. If someone gave me a budget I could only use on plastic surgery and treatments I would probably get a neck lift down the line (it doesn't stop me from wearing lolita and won't stop me from wearing it even if it gets worse, but it's something I don't like seeing on myself). But if I was given a choice on what to do with the budget I would probably buy something else.

i don't see how it's related to lolita specifically. many norrmie women my age (early 30s) are dabbling in filler and neurotoxins. i don't know if lolita spending habits are so different that they wouldn't be interested, or maybe as a group the mindset around aging is much more casual due to caring less about societal pressure as a whole. the best fillers and PS are very subtle and work well with your existing features, so it's very possible the lolitas in my age group are getting stuff done but it's just not as extreme as, say, a DDDD boob job (which would be a bad idea in lolita anyway?).

me personally, i get filler for my chin but it's extremely recessed in any case (not age related) and i'm too afraid of surgery. i also get maintenance botox and a lip flip (not lip filler). i feel like the average person could stave off aging with a simple no drugs, no alcohol, and no smoking regimen and a few good facials, though.

Idk how lolita is supposed to play into this but I feel like I'm in the minority now for not wanting to get anything done ever. Seems like a lot of trouble and a fair amount of risk, and for what? Unless I was literally disfigured in an accident, I don't see a reason to be worked up over natural changes.
I have no hard feelings towards people who want it but it does make me uncomfortable that it seems like it's becoming very casual and almost expected, like you're supposed to have a reason for opting out instead of it being normal to not opt in. My sister has been considering it and I don't understand why because she's normally the "idc about what people think, I do my own thing" type, it feels unsettling to see otherwise confident women feel a need to delay the inevitable.
Of course I'd still like to look young for as long as possible and I'll put effort into taking care of myself and having good skincare, but I don't like the idea of feeling like my natural face/body needs drastic modifications if it's healthy. But that's just me and maybe I simply don't get people's reasons

Women who want treatments/procedures for anti aging but who say they don't care about what others think are either lying (because they do care about outside opinions), or have trouble identifying with their appearance as they age. It's pretty common for women who have had anti aging procedures done with visible results to say that "I finally feel like myself again" when it's all healed and the swelling is gone. They have trouble identifying with their face as it starts to age visibly, they start to avoid looking in the mirror, it makes them uncomfortable to do so. You're much better off embracing the aging process. As long as you take good care of yourself (health, skin care) it is a very slow process.

Aside from the risk of certain treatments and procedures, there's also a large amount of money involved. Money I would probably be happier spending on skin care and my lolita wardrobe, home improvement, Christmas gifts, outings with my friends, etc.
Botox will have you coming back because the effects wear off. A beautiful home, a beautiful wardrobe, good memories, are all less temporary.

I don't like the way things are going in general with plastic surgery. It's become so normalized that some people think that ugly people are to blame for their own ugliness because (in theory) they could get jaw surgery for example. Never mind that it costs a huge amount of money (effectively making it impossible for many people) and has a long and painful recovery.

Botox isn’t very expensive, maybe around $200-$700, depending on how many units you are getting, and it’s only every three to four months.

I don’t think aging makes or breaks a coordinate and throws it into ita range at all, though. There’s worse things out there (obesity, looking dirty it unkempt).

This is an embarrassing question, but any advice on how to keep socks clean..?

I live with two roommates who constantly wear shoes inside the house & refuse to mop / sweep / clean up after themselves. I tried to for a while, but it would just get dirty again. I wear slippers as much as i can, but inevitably i have to walk around in just socks sometimes, which means the insides of my shoes get dirty-- which then transfers to my nice lolita socks when i wear them together.

I'm at my wits end, and I feel like ive tried everything. I have put my insoles through the wash dozens of times, ive worn tiny socks overtop of my lolita socks, ive drowned my lolita socks in oxyclean/hydrogen bleach to get the stains out... nothing. Additionally, the stains only ever stick to my lolita socks. My normie socks are totally fine for some fucking reason.

They aren't being caused by my feet, because the stains are never on the inside of the sock. Only the outside. i dont know what to do. Im sick of being embarrassed every time i look at my socks.

my advice would be what you say you've already tried - no-show socks over your lolita socks. how are your socks still getting stained with this method? could the stains be from the tiny socks instead of the inside of your shoes? in that case, i'd say keep a few pairs of white no-show socks you only wear with your lolita shoes, and replace them if you notice any stains on the interior.

also, as much as you'll see anons bitch in the secondhand thread about nasty socks, no one actually cares as long as you aren't selling them. if they're only stained on the bottom of the sock where no one else can see, there's no reason to be embarrassed about something you've tried everything to fix.

I mean everyone can just figure out how much a year's (or however many years they want to use it) worth of botox is going to cost for them and if that's worth it for them. You know how lolitas think. If one round of botox (lasting 3 to 4 months) is at minimum 200$ then you could get a dress for that. I think that money would also be better spent on proper nutrition, the gym, skin care, hair care if they haven't fully financed those areas of their life yet. BUT I'm speaking from my own financial situation, I'm not poor but wouldn't call myself well off or rich. It's not uncommon for me to spend 500~700$ per month on lolita (obviously I spend a lot less if there are no items popping up that I want). I guess I could sacrifice 67~233$ per month on botox (200~700 divided by 3) but I don't think I would want to unless the need to look smoother becomes really pressing. If I had a lot more disposable income I might consider botox, but only after I had taken care of other things (home renovation, outings, etc).

I don't think laugh lines (no matter how deep) make anyone ita either. Being obese can, being unkempt/dirty can, ill fitting clothes can, wrong hair styling can. Ugly or old doesn't as long as they styled themselves properly.

That'd be... tough to make work if you don't want to miss the whole point of either style. As far as I can tell, a defining aspect of gyaru is putting in a lot of effort to make up and hair and it's all about giving off a sexy and fun image, whereas menhera is meant to be easy to throw on for people with low energy and specifically exists to provoke thought and dialogue about mental illness, so it generally has a very gloomy atmosphere underneath the cuteness. The two contrast quite starkly. Of course, if you mean just working in medical themes to gyaru it can and has been done (see picrel).

listen flavor can definitely be worn as gyaru. it would probably need to look a bit more mature with dark makeup closer to pic related(something the community incorrectly dubbed rokku gyaru). there is plenty of menhera that looks sexy, just more disordered than fun, so it'd be easy to style it in a more fun way. menhera is just a blanket term for a darker medical themed stuff mostly anyway.

You make a good point and I'll admit I was kind of talking out of my ass when it comes you gyaru, but in any case menhera isn't primarily a fashion style either, and the first example doesn't really read as menhera. It's a loose community focused on vent art in various forms, and just like gyaru (or jirai, which was mentioned earlier), the clothing associated with it mainly came out of that, with people who identify as menhera expressing that through it. This is to say that sure, Listen Flavor can be styled in a lot of ways, but it isn't a "menhera brand" and wearing a piece from them doesn't make a coordinate menhera. The word itself means "mental healther", tag spam on social media just conflates it with yamikawaii since they cross over so much. The second picture is even a more accurate example and it's in pastel colors.

well i'd argue that a lot of things labeled menhera actually aren't. modern jp punk and dark kawaii styles have a lot of overlap and menhera is more of a theme or styling than a full style. the look of sickly or sickening is prominent in both yumekawa and darker styles, which doesn't mean they're menhera necessarily.

>> No.10888290

I think we're pretty much getting at the same idea, that menhera isn't really a fashion but (in aesthetic terms, not as a label used to build online community like its origin) more nebulous with certain, common themes that appears in combination with styles like yumekawaii or gothic fashion. And many things that are only the latter are often mislabeled without really containing those themes. But socks that say "suicide note" or a pouch with art featuring nooses are pretty clearly getting at something mental health related, on the same way a hoodie with pills and Menhera-chan on it is. To me that's what makes something menhera visually, not just bandages or nurse caps. Apologies if I came off as rude btw.

>But socks that say "suicide note" or a pouch with art featuring nooses are pretty clearly getting at something mental health related
that's kind of what i was getting at, that to me is medical themed, not in the typical sense of medical instruments or pills, but it's alluding to medical issues. and menhera has to have direct or indirect medical themes in some way. and you didn't come off as rude, sorry if i implied your pics weren't menhera, i was moreso directly the general idea that yamikawa/yumekawa can give off a similarly uneasy sour feeling. i am just trying to help dissect menhera to help anon figure out how to incorporate it with gyaru. and it's true you don't see those themes much in most gyaru, and i think it's due to the fact that pop gyaru(2000s-2010s gyaru styles)is from a time where most fashions had an aspect of being carefree to them, which menhera doesn't really have, but modern gyaru(that some call neogyaru) also lacks that kind of carefree feeling of the 2000s. and most other modern jfashions lack that carefree feeling too. so a pop gyaru menhera coord would have to reignite that carefree feeling possibly in an "i'm sick or broken but still sexy/cool" way. i think neogyaru is basically just japanese instagram style so you'd just have to add anything menhera to that. either way i think the idea of being sick or broken in a sense can be added to gyaru, even though it's never been done. and in a similar way that rock edgy has been incorporated into gyaru already before.

If you're into sweet the ideal height is 155~160cm according to wonder tea party. Above that things are going to sit higher than they're supposed to. So 86.5-90 is probably my safe zone. For skirts I need to get DML's LL sizes.
Thank Haruhi, that girly and himekaji is pretty leggy unlike lolita, so you can get away with some shit

height doesn't mean anything because not everyone has the same body shape. some people have super short torsos and longer legs or the opposite so there's no way to judge how long pieces should be. also each item is cut differently and looks different. i know it sounds lazy but you really can't estimate anything and need to try on every piece.

> pores are getting more visible
My advice is getting one of those pore sticker thingys that go on your nose, you can’t use them super frequently but I’ve heard they do help. Also getting in a bath with hot water can also help extract pores and make them less visible.

>> No.10889885

>>10889879
do not use hot water on your skin or pore stickers- this is really bad advice.
In terms of the forehead wrinkle, if you move or wiggle your eyebrows a lot and are very expressive it's bound to happen, less from aging and more as a result of scrunching up that area over time. It's perfectly normal, you don't have to control your expression out of fear of wrinkles.
Pores getting more visible as you age is kind of par for the course, you can reduce the appearance of pores but it's usually only temporary. If you find yourself with a lot of sebaceous filaments (not blackheads, the tiny black spots on your nose and cheek areas) try using a salicylic acid followed by a clay mask, then double cleanse using an oil cleanser and let it sit for 15 mins, then gently massage the area. Follow it up with a regular cleanser and your moisturizer. Do this on a day you're not going out, about once or twice a week.
Honestly I would never really recommend reddit for anything else but the skincare addiction subreddit and wiki can really help you find a skincare routine to target specific concerns like this. Do not listen to people who tell you to use abrasive methods on your skin and always do your own research. Hope this is satisfactory. Also, wear sunscreen.

Nayrt, but I find that a lot of people overcomplicate things like skin and hair care, diets and workout routines, which makes it seem so much more daunting than it really is at first glance. A basic skincare routine is pretty easy to stick to, you just have to start doing it consistently and it will become second nature to you, like brushing your teeth. I found that a minimal number of products has been doing me more good than a crazy 20 step routine that skincare subreddits made me believe I needed. Just do what you're comfortable with, you don't need to become an expert or make it your whole personality, like some people do.

Bodyline got a bad rep after brandwhorses would use it as an insult to newbies with no money and they also did the same with “plus size” people that couldn’t fit into brand (even though if you can’t fit into brand, you probably can’t fit into bodyline either). Not even getting into the controversy with bodylines previous owner (his name shall not be named) which made it an easy target for lolita elitists. Yes a basic routine is easy, but if you want to tackle specific problems you use specific products. I'm the Anon who listed that information- it's very easy to mistreat your skin and very difficult to do what you want to get your skin at a place where you feel happy with it. I'd rather have my information simply be disregarded than have someone try something like >>10889879 suggested and possibly damage their skin and fuck up their face because they thought it was what they were supposed to do. There is a way to treat your skin in a non abrasive manner and most of the time your skin will tolerate it much better. Yes some people can just throw whatever on their face and be fine, but if you're so lost you're asking on 4chan then you're probably the type of person that needs that long format advice.

>>10889958
I wasn't disagreeing with your advice. My point was, if someone is so overwhelmed that the more complex steps that are meant to address specific concerns seem too daunting for them to tackle right now, they should start with the basics, and it's not nearly as confusing as it might seem on the surface. If they're not using any skincare at all, a good chunk of their issues could probably be resolved with a solid basic routine anyway. And if the issues persist, adding one extra step isn't nearly as daunting as starting out with 20 from the get go.

Yeah that's fair I see what you mean now. To be honest all of that stuff isn't at all necessary, it's just going the extra mile. Moisturizer and sunscreen really will get you far. Cleaning your face with a cleanser that suits your skin type. Not picking or scratching spots on your face. The basics are underrepresented in the skincare community, i do admit. a lot of makeup is related to proper application for your skin type, face shape, and also general technique. Although it's more k-makeup based I recommend looking at a channel like dear peachie- annoying AI voice but they go indepth on both different trends and certain makeup troubleshooting, and give you a really good baseboard to be able to shoot off of. I find not having a comprehensive list of things I'll need before I even start to be quite frustrating, because I don't own much makeup in the first place, so I appreciate they give you a list beforehand near the beginning of the video so I'm not wasting my time on something I don't even have the materials to do.
They also help you determine your face shape, eye shape etc, which can further help you troubleshoot why things are going wrong since it might be directly related to you following a makeup video from someone who has completely different features from you.

That being said, it's a lot to jump into so you may just find something like this easier if you already have all your foundational techniques in place and don't want to read all that:
