Seems like the series exploded in popularity for both men and women since it started airing. Can you really make cosplays based on advice presented n the show? Anyone entering the cosplay contest run by the official site?

>> No.10728211

For brevity's sake it doesn't go super in depth but the underlying base is sound. Obviously there's a lot of steps they didn't include so it's not going to be that quick and easy

The main guy had sewing experience which made the end result more believable for me. But also expect to look at tired as him and still have shit result for first try. I am curious how much sewing/making tips they will present in future episodes though.

Official anime site. The contest is open to anyone internationally. It's more of a cosplay raffle draw than contest; eligible entries will have a chance to win a voice recording from Marin's VA and also be announced by the official Japanese Twitter. I noticed a lot of comments from Japanese people saying that it's extremely rare for official sites to acknowledge non-professional and non-contract fan works, so I hope the contest is successful and other series might do similar in the future.

kinda. I only read the manga so bear in mind. a lot of it is throwing around random sewing jargon which is pretty cringe, but a lot of the underlying concepts are very very simple but true (eg. camera angles). The protag is annoyingly a pushover (yet another "pushover/shy MC and active girl" shitshow) and the show kind of kills it with how much fanservice there is (although it is pretty indicative of who goes far in cosplay lmao)

For someone who knows how to sew and make garments, it’s possible. I’m not sure how realistic it is for someone who is used to making Japanese style doll clothes (as Japanese clothing is all straight lines) to make a western style dress with no experience with making womens’ clothes, but he did a lot of research so it’s possible, but not probable.

>> No.10732408

>>10732399
He did a lot of research and has general basic sewing skills, had a cosplay sewing mag, knew how to pick quality wig and fabrics (the main part newbies fuck up on and they even showed the girl almost making that mistake with the shiny fabric and not considering the undertone on the wig), etc. Not at all unreasonable that he'd have done a good job.

it's unrealistic but not impossible for the most part. it was bs that he'd be able to do her makeup though, drawing japanese doll faces is not the same at all as applying makeup on a human lol. maybe if he was into bjds it would be plausible.

>>10732459
If he was practicing the more detailed dolls that involve blushing and fake lashes it does make sense. He even had the false lashes for trying to use on modern versions of the dolls like what he'd seen on socials.

The show did a lot of work to basically explain how he was able to pull it off moderately well while still acknowledging errors like him not leaving enough ease in the costume since humans move and dolls don't, or forgetting to measure with her push up bra, and picking a heavy fabric that was accurate or nice quality but then they weren't prepared for the weight and heat in the weather at the convention/meetup.

tbf they did show Marin's first attempt and it was a dumpster fire lol. And while it's not super likely for the guy to do such an amazing job for the first time, they did justify it pretty well with all his previous experience and research - not just into the techniques, but the character as well.

>>10732459

yes this is true lol. If anything it would make more sense to me that she'd apply her existing skills after following a tutorial or something or that they would figure it out together - I assumed she wears make-up often just based on her personal style.

Sono Bisque Doll cosplay is the dumbest thing. I get that it's meant to be a kind of thanks to the creator for making cosplayers more visible, but no girl ever manages to come close to actually pulling her off.

It feels like the people cosplaying her are completely missing the point of her character, and don't realize that the best way to carry her spirit is by cosplaying characters that they genuinely love and not appealing to the lowest common denominator by cosplaying as the coomer FotM character.

Yeah, I'm aware a lot of cosplayers do genuinely adore the series and Marin/Gojou as characters, but it still feels wrong for people to cosplay them instead of continuing to cosplay the obscure things they love like Marin does in the show.

Name me at least 5 world or region scale contests explicitly allowing (or assigning points as part of a judging criteria) for makeup which allows one to effectively change the skin color.

Here I have recent developments which prove my point, not yours: "As outlined in Appendix A: “Finalists are expected to make use of makeup and shaping for their costumes where
appropriate, but it is not a modelling contest, accuracy extends to the costume itself not the physical traits of the
cosplayer wearing it. The spirit of the competition allows people to choose who or what they want to portray,
according to their cosplay skills.”
Judges are considering the craftsmanship put into the costume, not how much the Finalist looks like their chosen
character. So, for example, it is not acceptable to penalize a Finalist if their body shape is different from their chosen
character but they could be rewarded for sensible choices made in costume design and construction to better
emulate the proportions of the character e.g. the use of padding underlayers or clever tailoring. Similarly, good use
of makeup for age or gender transformations can be rewarded but not penalized if these techniques are not
employed.
The use of makeup, including prosthetics, to change your natural skin tone to another realistic race has been a
contentious topic for a number of years in the global cosplay community. While not usually intended to cause
offence, using makeup in this way carries connotations of historical practices that were inherently racist and it
contributes to an environment where people of color are made to feel uncomfortable to portray characters outside
their race, and it is not appropriate for the competition.
By understanding that costume accuracy does not include skin color, age, gender or body shape, we include and
invite everyone to portray any character that they love."

Except it's used to refer to black people. Read the manga, read the raw.

Why don't people with too much time on their hands contact actual Japanese companies making darkening body foundation specifically meant for cosplay instead of attacking a fictional depiction of it?

it's a literal non issue.

So? It still depicted black foundation and its result applied to a skin (protip, the skin was black).

Except using darkening products in order to change the color of your skin is racist, and denying it is racist as well.

Friendly reminder that only about 20% of adults in America use twitter and that 25% of twitter accounts make 97% of the tweets. You retards are getting heated up over the opinions of an extremely vocal minority, whose opinions actually don't fucking matter in the real world.

This is literally happening on every board. A twitter screenshot with a retarded take gets posted with something like 4 likes and the thread gets 300 posts due to everyone thinking that some rando's opinion actually fucking matters and is an accurate of representation of the opinion's of sane people who touch grass. Twitter screenshot threads really need to be banned and people need to just stop using that website. Unless you're running a business or trying to groom children there is literally no reason to be using twitter
