Many coords you see in street snaps weren't as "polished" by today's standards,they included mismatched or seemingly random items or were purposely lacking a blouse, a petti or a headpiece because that was more practical for daily wear. Those lolitas didn't worry too much about coming across as ita either while these days you have people breaking down over the fact that their whites don't match because that might get them posted into the ita thread. I'd argue that there's quite a few deeper issues that make everyone "look the same" or rather: afraid of experimenting.

But its true. Huge wardrobes in lolita fashion are a relatively new thing. If someone has a mismatched element in a streetsnap, its likely because thats all they had. Only cgl is anal about color shades matching perfectly or themes matching perfectly. Because in Japan they actually treat it like a fashion and not a game of "wear the perfect coordinate"

It's probably a release from the Baby Classical series, several of the pieces from that line have fuller/longer hemlines, this seems to be one of them. The headdress is also a newer release, since it features the princess drop charms. So while the pieces are reminiscent of true oldschool designs, combining all new pieces gives it away.

So to conclude: Wardrobes are getting bigger and bigger and that also explains why the 2nd hand market is getting worse and worse each year. Everybody is hoarding and not selling and with the average lolitas age increasing, it also increases the disposable income and potential storage space for even more brand. The dempgraphics have vastly changed. It used to be mostly teenage college and university aged girls in the early 2000s. Now a large chunk of lolitas are professionals in their 30s. Wardrobe sizes reflect that.

Whilst I agree that what you're saying is true, I also think that younger lolitas will inevitably get to a point through the years where they're in the financial position to afford the more expensive dresses too. Maybe certain items will be more rare because older lolitas are ""hoarding"" them but as >>10665255 said, it's just the timing. I’m not a purist but i don’t think there is an upper limit. For example, Marble has been putting out the exact same style for 20 years and so has antique beast. So it would be silly to say that only pre-2005 marble is old school when it literally looks the same as 2021 Marble. Same for vivienne westwood bags/shoes.
I believe it just depends on the fit. Pre 2005ish baby had a lot of oldschool fits with a small or no petti. You could wear some of meta’s blouses in stock rn, with a ladder lace skirt and it would look old school.

I used to have a massive wardrobe before I ended up selling two thirds of it because I always went back to the same pieces after all. I'm a lifestyler but I barely go out to events or meet-ups anymore, I simply didn't need all those ott pieces I used to collect so I sold them. I kept a couple of those items for their sentimental value but I'm not missing a single one of those that I did get rid of.
Some lolitas treat the fashion purely like a collector's hobby which is perfectly fine but I want to actually wear my clothes and not just let them sit in my closet squished between 80+ similar pieces of which most will never get worn either.

I mean, it's not really an option if she wanted this specific dress, and it looks like she won't fit any old school besides maybe meta. Nothing wrong with altering your clothes either, and it would be a much better use of the waist ties than what she ended up doing.
