Have you ever had a major lolita related identity change? Like, perhaps you were exclusively gothic lolita then one day you woke up randomly and only liked sweet? Or your dream dress was some Angelic Pretty pastel vomit dreamland shit for a decade, but now it's some classic red/navy piece by AatP that looks nothing like your typical aesthetic?

This was me earlier this year: strict gothic Lolita for 5+ years, and then something absolutely possessed me during the sugary carnival MTO and I HAD to own all of it. Will report back in October when I get the full set from AP, I guess

Maybe not an "identity change", but it took me a really long time to figure out what my style actually was because I spent too long trying to fit in with my comm. I owned a bunch of sweet dresses in black and pink that I was never 100% comfortable in; my coordinations were never ott enough to really suit the prints. Then a few years ago I started buying gothic/old school and I realized that that was what I should've been wearing all along.

when i started i was sooooo convinced i was gonna wear pastel vomit AP sweet forever. i fell in love with a sheglit release a while back and realized how much more flattering gothic was on me. now gothic is all i wear and most of my wishlist is old VM and JetJ solids in black. i did get the sugary carnival MTO so maybe that'll rekindle my love of sweet

When I first was looking at pieces I wanted, I was CONVINCED that I was gonna be a classic lolita and only wear sweet in navy/burgundy, the second I started buying my entire wardrobe turned pink and I haven't cared about a single classic piece I've seen.

Before I started buying the fashion, I thought I'd want to be super lowkey and mature, wear solids, wear brand miniskirts so I can avoid the unusual silhouette, wear platform heels so I look more adult, no ruffles only pleats. But then my ass was too tall for miniskirts, and I saw a puppy print and was compelled to buy it, I feel like tall platform shoes make my skirt length look less appropriate, and I cbf to iron a ton of pleats. So I turned out sweet. I should have known, because the very first inspo pic I saved was pic related.

I thought I was in love with pastel sweet and bought a ton of it for a decent price but really my niche is strawberry prints and chocolate prints. I now just wear casual pastel jfashion looks instead of pastel ott sweet and keep my lolita in the aforementioned two categories and in pink colorways usually cause I do still love pink

started off as a an edgy mallgoth wanting to get into gothic lolita. told myself I would get just one sweet lolita dress, fell in love and immediately got all the 2010 OTT sweet i could get my hands on. had a brief phase in my early to mid 20s where i felt like i was too old to wear OTT sweet and tried to seek out emikyu and toned down "otome" pieces. but now i'm back to liking 2009-2012 era sweet.

2010s sweet is what got me interested in lolita. I bought an AP dress and realized I just look like a creepy ageplayer in sweet. Now I wear gothic/old school

I'm goth outside of lolita but was initially interested in sweet and wanted to try it.
My first dress was as sweet as it gets and I immediately hated it. Made me feel like I was wearing a costume and strangers asking if I was going to a costume party didn't help that feeling. After that I decided sweet would never suit me and grew to hate it more and more the older I got. Ten years later and I'm living my best gothic life as I should be.

I wanted to be a goth lolita for the longest time because of the animes I had watched as an edgy teen, but the more I got exposed to sweet lolita in 2012 via tumblr the more I fell in love with it. I love both styles equally tho. I'm more comfortable in goth though, since pastel colors and crazy prints really draw in the stares from people.

I had this happen but in the opposite direction, my whole comm liked classic/gothic and I tried really hard to fit in with them, then I bought a few sweeter pieces from AP and it was all downhill from there. Though I still tend to prefer toned down sweet over OTT.

Nayrt, learning you don't prefer or look good in sweet is different than calling it creepy ageplay

>> No.10580079

When I started out, I only wanted to buy „Classic x Sweet“ pieces. Like, dusty pinks and playful florals, because pastel AP Sweet is „too much“. My first AP dress was a floral one, but I fell in love with the brand and started buying regular Sweet lolita dresses. However, I made it a point to not buy the pastel vomit colorways, but rather the muted colors like chocolate dresses in brown and ivory or dresses like Cinema Doll in gray, because still, I wanna be mature, right?
A few years later I met my now best friend and she gave me the courage to wear OTT pastel vomit dresses I always loved all along (the irony, pink has always been my favourite color, but I never dared to actually buy a pink dress). I now buy and wear whatever I like, I‘m a 100% Sweet lolita with both pastels and muted colors. However, my comm says I still have the tendency to style my coords in a sophisticated way, so I guess I‘m still obsessed with not looking like too childish. My husband says I used to dress more elegant though.

When I first got into lolita 10+ years ago I was into OTT sweet!! When I returned to the fashion I picked up where I left off with sweet style, but my style outside of lolita was very goth/punk so I ended up trying more darker looks and it suited me much more. I feel more comfortable in it as well. Still love looking at pastel/sweet coords but they’re not for me.

When I was a newbie lolita at heart I fell in love with OTT sweet first, then I discovered Meta's sailor series and was convinced I'd start with sailor stuff from taobao first. However I didn't have the funds to pull the trigger and actually purchase back then, even taobao orders. Later on I thought I'd start with classic first for more mature styling. But I slipped into mature sweet instead, especially because I had a lot of pinks in my wardrobe from a different j-fashion. I still like mature sweet but not as much as casual 2007-2013 ap sweet and retro motifs. This pretty much sealed my fate as an apfag.

Not the original anon but I look like a creepy ageplayer in sweet because I am ugly. I think sweet is lovely though, just I can’t wear it. Original anon was probably saying that *they* look look like a creepy ageplayer.

Started off as classic and I swore I would never ever own or wear anything sweet, esp pastel. Now I own a couple of sweet and sweet classic dresses, and one pastel. Still primarily classic, but even so, I never imagined myself feeling comfortable in sweet so that's pretty cool.

>> No.10580250

Normalfags see gothic as regular goth and classic as historical reenactment. Sweet lolita look more weird than the rest of us, and that's okay.

>> No.10580282

I thought i was classic and maybe a little goth all this time. I tried to get into ap stuff like the honeycake one, or dream sky, but i just felt weird wearing it.

Then i saw a 2010 sweet jsk in black with cute rabbits and strawberries, and i fell in love. It will arrive next week :)

I think my taste is not exactly classic. just more toned down egl that i can wear without feeling like I am in a costume. Which would happen to be a lot of classic and gothic. But I think casual sweet also works :)

I mostly wear oldschool adjacent main pieces because I've been solidly against ap and all super sweet cutesy stuff for almost a decade as some sort of justification to others about my clothing ("a- at least I'm not like those freaks! they have actual children's motifs all over their dresses!") but I bought that cc cat dollhouse dress and I'm scared it's gonna awaken some repressed 2010 sweet in me
