If AP rereleases more old "status piece" things like SC and HC, they will be available to everyone and less of a status symbol, so hypebeasts who wear this fashion to flaunt their money or status won't get as much enjoyment out of feeling exclusive anymore and more people wearing it will just enjoy it for the aesthetic and fun, not the statement of wealth or superiority they feel comes from having pieces most other people don't

this isn't how any of that works. re-releases, especially of different fabric, won't affect the price of the original. not only that but re-releases don't make pieces less rare to begin with unless tons of people sell them. you sound extremely poor and new. there was never ever a time when there weren't rare pieces that cost a lot. they will always be here and you will always cry because you can't cheap out on burando. the fact that you think people who want rare pieces and people who enjoy the fashion aren't the same people is telling enough.

but i think anon has a point--there's a difference between "wanting a piece that doesn't pop up very often" and "wanting a piece because nobody else has it/wanting a piece because it's harder for other people to get", and the latter is what anon is talking about. rereleases aren't going to eliminate the existence of rare pieces, but i do think it's nice that more people get to enjoy wearing something they've always wanted.

i think the overarching point of this conversation is that now, more people get to do that. i agree with that. somebody else's happiness in clothing shouldn't affect anybody else. even if anon said it in a kind of inflammatory way, it makes sense.

Ayrt, this isn't about price, or wanting rare pieces (which, rereleases help everyone if there are genuinely people who just want pieces that happen to be rare). Rereleases cost the same new as the original and don't typically lead to secondhand market pieces costing any lower than retail at best, my point wasn't about the price specifically. It was about people having a sense of status from the piece, which technically you don't need money to have, some people own rare pieces from when they bought them cheap or new on release, but the enjoyment specifically from the rarity or exclusivity of the piece or comparing themselves to others who don't have it and feeling above them/special is the annoying part, not people simply wanting Milky-Chan or the original velvet Nakayoshi Bunny, etc.

Rereleases making the item less rare benefits the brand financially with MTO bucks rolling in from scalpers and regular lolitas alike, benefits the secondhand market people (that may not buy new for reasons beyond price) who have been waiting for a chance to buy rare pieces that don't appear often and may snag an older one someone is reselling to get cash for a newer version, and help turn pieces in coords with sought after items that get praised or scrutinized more for their rarity into basic bitch pieces like HC where we can be more focused on how fun and cute the coord is or if an experiemental idea went well or not, rather than "what a waste of a HC to coord it this way" or whatever people might have said before about similar pieces like CTP, etc.

I am "anon", both posts you responded to are me, and I wasn't putting people down, just expressing my distaste for hypebeast tendencies when other people make things into a competition and are the ones putting others down. Ex: people on cgl who complained and got pissed at the rereleases this year because they literally said they felt less special than everyone else now about owning one of those pieces. That attitude isn't particularly fun for anyone because it's not just someone wearing it in their own way, it's someone wearing it i a way that impacts how they perceive and therefore treat other people or engage in discourse in the fashion.

If people have more money to buy what they want that is fantastic, I am sure it will be very fun seeing their happy posts about getting items they like, the point of my comment was never about money, YOU brought up money initially. If collectors never wear their pieces and just like to look at and enjoy them that is cool too; I enjoy admiring pieces I'll never wear online in photos and in person all the time, that's something most lolitas do. I'm not bitter at all, I just want to have a lolita community where we are enjoying ourselves, not pitting ourselves against each other mentally. We can just pit ourselves against each other on the AP websites during bloodbath releases lol.
