The most ethical purchase you can make is secondhand, regardless of origin. The manufacturer has already been paid and by purchasing new clothing you're just using up new resources, regardless of how "green" or "ethical" they are. As another anon mentioned, most "made in USA" products involve prison labor at some point. Even Whole Foods uses prison labor to process some of their goods. I'm sorry if this question is incredibly stupid, but this is the stupid questions thread after all.
I have mainly been wearing very very beginner gothic lolita up to this point, but i want to move a bit towards sweet with the black colourways of some BTSSB dresses i've been eyeing. I'll probably coord them with black stuff, seeing as most of my current starter wardrobe is black. But i'm also an insecure shithead and don't want to be seen as "bittersweet" with all the annoying controversies, but i'd also feel stupid wearing something and not being able to name it. If i wear the black colourway of a BTSSB jsk with a sweet print, and coord it with all black, will it just be sweet lolita in dark colours, or gothic with a sweet print?

>> No.10534579

>>10534577
Although each substyle has common colors associated with it, it’s the actual clothing style and not the colors that make a piece gothic or sweet. You could be wearing head to toe black without any print, but be sweet if the details are (puff sleeves, lots of ruffles, etc)

>>10534577
>But i'm also an insecure shithead and don't want to be seen as "bittersweet" with all the annoying controversies
First thing's first is you probably shouldn't way the semantics of gulls this heavily. But besides that, I'm still in the "it's just dark sweet" because gothic is more than a black dress, it has it's own motifs and aesthetics. That's not to say some kind of "gothic sweet" can't be done, but it's going to be a harder setup then say "sweet classic" because sweet and gothic are aesthetically a bit at odds in the look they are going for. But again, see first point and don't worry too much about the semantics.

I'll settle with calling it sweet in dark colours then, thank you for the clarification. I like gothic motifs, and dark colours, but I also like sweet motifs, but not light colours, which would logically end me up doing sweet in dark colours, which makes sense now. Before, i always thought that sweet couldn't be truly sweet if the colours weren't light also, but now i've learned.

Probably a question that’s been asked a billion times but what kind of makeup is generally accepted in lolita? Everyone says “natural” but what is the line between good makeup and gaudy

>> No.10536402

>>10536382
If you're so new to the fashion and/or makeup that you have to ask what's appropriate, then stick with "natural" because otherwise you'll look like a clown. Minimal makeup is fine, but gaudy and bold makeup looks take a lot of skill and may not fit the aesthetic.

There's a lot of tutorials on youtube, but the best place to look for a beginner is Japanese lolitas for two reasons. One, jfash makeup is more subtle and uses different techniques than western styles. Second, Japanese makeup tutorials generally focus more up-close on the face, and don't shy from showing details like skin texture or clumpy mascara. Most western makeup insta/youtubers use bright ringlights and filters to obscure this, as well as further shots, which makes the tutorial less realistic and less useful for beginners.

Could it be that the dress hanging by the button stretched them out? Its been hanging for a few years. I have no problem with them staying on the hanger. And although the dress is old; it doesnt seem like the elastic gave out making the dress just flop/hang down. The button also seems to be normally sewed on. I dont think its an issue of me being too big for the dress because i still fit my AP and Baby unshirred OPs. Now that i actually examined it to see if i could get 30 bucks; i see that the lace is completely yellow, and a few stains and spots when you look carefully.
If worn with minimal poof/by someone thin only the yellowed lace is noticeable as the pattern is pretty busy and the folds and pleats hide everything.

I would say yes, as a classic lolita whose wardrobe is built around jewel tones- wine is probably the most versatile. It pairs well with every neutral and every other jeweltone, as well as pink, plus it's pretty easy to find accessories for.

For example while navy is good too, it can look odd paired with black and brown sometimes. Wine doesn't typically have that problem.

Depends on the shoe, I would say. I think it's easier to get away with this in flat shoes than pumps, my heel will lift right out of the shoe if it's too loose much easier than in flats, I find. How do you determine the rarity of a dress? I assume you just have to look at the previous sales on LM and figure it out that way, but I'm not sure if there's a record of rereleases and things I'm missing out on.
