Ok so we know that blackface cosplay is wrong but making your skin green, blue etc to cosplay a character is ok

But what if the character is an alien but is "black coded" like Garnet of Steven Universe?

Can non-black people cosplay Garnet and should they make their skin red to do it?

I'm not gonna touch that one with a ten foot clown pole.

Yes, and anyone having a problem with it can go melt in ditch like the snowflake they are. There's nothing ethically wrong with doing so.

>> No.10486739

Yeah the general consensus seems to be that it’s fine to cosplay garnet. Just make sure your body paint is nowhere near the color brown and be respectful

The problem is painting your skin to mimic the skin of another, living human being. This is an alien with a non-human skin color. Have at it, if you so choose.

>> No.10487037

blackface is bad, and the people who think blackface = painting your skin to cosplay a non-offensive anime or cartoon character have absolutely no clue what blackface is.

>> No.10487069

>>10487037
I think blackface is bad but the thing is, painting your skin to look black to cosplay a character not only looks terrible, but everyone will hate you for it. If folks do so regardless, knowing that doing so would give them hate, I believe they are just doing it as a publicity stunt.

>> No.10487076

There are countless examples of skin painting for cosplaying looking good, and " but everyone will hate you for it" is an awful reason to not do something.

skin painting to look black? No they usually just look like they rolled around in shit.

I suppose if "everyone will hate you for it" isnt a good enough reason to stop you go be retarded I guess, but that doesn't shield you from the consequences, especially when you knew what you were getting into.

I am so tired of all the drama concerning balckface.
I should be able to cosplay whatever I want whenever I want.
Why do people believe that if I do blackface, nazis will win?

not that anon, but i've seen several black cosplayers paint their skin white for cosplays. Some white cosplays will even paint their skin white if their skin tone isn't pale enough.

>> No.10487544

I just think it looks either like shit or that it looks “off” because they don’t know what undertones are or how to blend. If you wanna tan a bit, go for it, but if you go from Snow White to Tiana it’s probably gonna look stupid and you’ll deposit color on everything you touch.

HAH there so many poc sjw’s especially with blm. what do you mean it’s hard to find a poc that’s against blackface? there was that streamer that did brownface for a apex legend cosplay not too long ago and a lot of people were on her case about it. I’m surprised they don’t try to cancel people that film themselves using those skin care face mask. shouldn’t they consider that blackface too

Does anyone else remember the drama that happened when a black dude painted his skin the color black for Dark Link and people flipped out because they didn't know he was black? Shit was hilarious.

>> No.10487966

this is the weirdest wankfest i've ever seen. you're all just sitting here patting each other in the back about "sjws taking muh artistic expression!!1!!!" like man who cares, if you want to do it so bad then do it. however, if you're stupid enough to not research the history of blackface and then get rightfully shit on then that's on you. don't try to make yourself the victim though cause then you just look pathetic, you're an adult capable of making your own decisions and you went in knowing what you were doing and the potential outcomes, deal with it.

you already have the freedom, and others have the freedom to think you're a jackass for it. it's not like you're going to SJW jail for being an edgelord. i think there's a difference between actual blackface, as in doing yourself up like the fucking shoop da woop face in an obvious racial caricature, and cosplaying a character like garnet. the fact that there are people on the other end of the spectrum who take it too far doesn't mean that there isn't a seed of truth in people's dislike of it. examine your actions to the best of your ability instead of characterizing anyone who disagrees with you as a blubbering idiot. sometimes it's clearly tacky or straight up racist and other times it's within reason.
