I actually don't mind it that much but if you really want to play by the rules, the collar is the highlight point of the outfit so you don't want to do any necklace really, or if so a small one with a focal point like a princess style pendant. I would do a naval themed brooch instead actually with this large collar style.

I know this isn't the feels thread, but I'm so excited that I needed to tell someone: I just snagged this beauty for SUPER cheap the other day and I'm over the moon. The secondhand market for MM has been dead for a while, and finding things that aren't main pieces are especially rare.

On that topic, does anyone have good recommendations for indie shops that have more classic accessories? I know of the more prominent ones (lotv, mossbadger, peppermint fox) but it feels sometimes like Lolita as a whole has moved to either being very sweet-focused or very gothic-focused with little in between.

Japanese call what we call petticoats as "panniers"

Then what they call "petticoats", they understand it to be more like a slip under your dress. Hence, it'll definitely be more like what we call underskirts.

Years ago I mentioned that we should probably change the word petticoat to match burando, because it's actually more accurate with historical fashion, but a bunch of anons told me panniers are things you attach to horses. So I guess we're stuck explaining this every time burando releases a petticoat that's an underskirt now (which is every year)

>because it's actually more accurate with historical fashion

That's not even true."Pannier" refers to a very specific skirt support that was only ever really popular in the 18th century. "Petticoat" is a catch-all term for skirts—functional or decorative—meant to be worn underneath dresses.

パニエ is a pseudo-loanword, and English-speaking lolitas calling petticoats does not make more sense from a linguistic perspective than calling it by its actual English name.

Mary Magdalene returning is the high point of my lolita feels this year. Looking through their dresses again really brought back the passion I felt for the fashion when I first started. Nah I'd rather hold out for VM or MM in jewel tones, this is just too overwhelmingly cream for me. Anyone else not a big fan of color variations like this where they just change the accent color? The recent tea cup print by AP had the same issue for me.

what styles of mens clothes would form well with classic lolita?

>> No.10467936

>>10467932
I don't no if you can one-to-one any given men's fashion to classic lolita, so it really depends what they are wearing. I feel like "dandy fashion" is a broad enough term with varying fashion elements where you can more easily match up to what the lolita is wearing. Not a perfect one-to-one in general, but a helpful I think it's a helpful start. If the lolita is wearing something fancier and more jewel-toned, ega may also be a good choice.

I want to start out with more basic stuff and move my way up. A huge issue is that a lot of the dandy stuff that im finding doesn't fit me, so im going to go basic and work my way up from there. Was more than likely going to start out with the Victorian era and just put together something that could at least mesh in with a classic Victorian, Aristocrat, and country.

I also buy a lot of vintage jewelry, or wear ribbon chokers (literally just a length of ribbon tied around my neck). I don't know in particular any shops that make consistently good jewelry, sadly. I end up combing local antique shops or vintage jewelry on etsy.

I really love riviere necklaces but good ones are either hard (so many cheap looking ones on etsy) to find or several thousand dollars. Still kicking myself for missing out on pic related.

As Mary Magdalene will be coming back with coats this winter, what are your thoughts on them? Are they worth 40,000-70,000 yen price tag, how warm are they? Is there that much warmth difference between their long and short coats?
I've always wanted to get one from either MM or VM, and now I have the money, this is my chance (I'm hoping it will look good with normie clothes kek, I'm intending to make it my permanent coat)
Also

MM coats have a high percentage of Angora wool and it is much warmer than normal wool. Most VM coats are a mixture of Polyester and normal wool or like 5% Angora and that is not enough to keep you warm in deep winter. I personally own one VM coat and 2 MM coats, and the VM is good for that autumn/winter transition phase while the MM coat also keeps me warm when it's freezing outside. They are definitely worth the price tag. If you take care of yours, it might last you for decades.

Seconding dying for valeria in green. It was the in-store exclusive, and I've only seen it appear maybe once for 5 seconds before quickly being sold. I'd also really love (another) whyteleafe re-release.
I kinda hope MM goes back to their 2008-era JSKs that relied on things like gathers, construction, and fabric choices to create items distinctly Lolita, but not over the top. That has always been the true MM aesthetic to me.
