I'm really starting to strongly dislike the current lolita online comm and culture but I'm kinda lonely and my local comm is a shitshow. Maybe it really is better to live in the past and fall into an endless pit of the wayback machine and google's time-specific searches.

I used to be one of those elitist insisting that fat people can't wear lolita, you can't alter brand, blah blah itas need to stop blah. But really I don't care anymore. It's clothes it's just clothing and if you can by a shirt and cut it into a crop top and wear it despite being overweight. Than you can take a angelic pretty jsk and add panels to the side so it fits you. It's your dress in the end and sure your lessening the value but who cares if it's not worth 500$ anymore if its worth something to the one who wears it that's all that matters.

And people telling itas to stop instead of encouraging them to get better is what's killing the community truthfully. If my first coord was posted to the ita thread, than my second and third and even when I got better than I would have quit. I'm glad I joined in a time before that. Anyone trying to join now, unless they have help and know 100% what they are doing will get immediately bashed. Hell even if they know what they are doing if your new. Your just meat for the seagulls to chew. Idk where I'm going with this I just wanted to get that out of my head

I genuinely don't want lolita to die, I want the joy to come back and I guess I'd prefer the overly accepting community over a salt mine rigged with explosives at this point

However, I have seen some say that they came here as newbs and were better for it because it toughened their skin or they just actually listened to the advice here.
I'm not a big fan of those girls but if that works, then fine whatever.

But I think that's a good rule for those who aren't familiar with this site. Like if it's a newbie on fb or discord, they should stay there. There's nothing of value for them here.

There is a lot more to the people on this site than just being an asshole.
Like yes, there is a lot of that, but there are also people like me here. I met one of my roommates on this site and he's nothing like the alt right retards that usually post.
You have to remember that some types of posters are louder than others. The ones who have the most obnoxious opinions are the ones who post the most because they want to spam their bullshit and get (you)'s.

I have a lot of fun on /ck/ for example. There's fat hate there too but there's also fat acceptance. As opposed to /cgl/ where the fat hate opinion dominates and it gets tiresome. It's better when there is a balance of opinions as opposed to a bunch of anons just shouting the same shit over and over.
That's what really sucks about this board - shit gets shouted down and then it becomes an echochamber of cgl tier memes. This happens on other boards to but not the extent it does here because some anons here really do take it too far.

I've also met nice anons here and had good discussions on this board which is why I keep coming back.
It's not really my fault that other people troll and shit up threads. I just respond accordingly and keep on rolling.
Just because someone is complaining about some of the people on a board doesn't mean they're not comfy.

I much prefer this shit to same fucking horse shit on FB where girls in my comm are all resharing the same animal crossing meme or talking about COVID shit nonstop.

To be entirely fair, you can technically work out at home but not well. I am an athletic trainer and do work out at home, but buying all the equipment a gym has is insanely expensive and sometimes impossible (like pools). Working out at home is a legit option if you are broke or do t have time to go to the gym or if it’s a pandemic (oops), but there are very real reasons people go to gyms.

Now SOME gyms like Planet Fitness use a scammy model, but not all gyms. YMCAs, local rec centers, country clubs, more posh gyms, and mid priced mom and pop gyms all run just fine without forcing patrons to sign away their life. Cancelling a gym membership is quite easy when your gym isn’t shit.

I'm referring to dresses that don't have enough shirring and thus the actual fabric gets stretched out and can suffer from it. I've seen dressed where the fabric was stretched on the bias and this had perminent wrinkles in the wrong spots, dresses where the stitching is almost being pulled out, and other forms of stress damage. I purchased a dress that was stretched out like that and only fully realized when it arrived to me and was all fucked and unwearable. Generally when dresses have enough shirring it does bounce back and stay undamaged like you described.

Thank you for the advice, I do see where you are coming from and didn't take it negatively.

I'm trying to keep an eye on it too, and my mom tried to tell me encouraging words when I brought my concerns up to her.

My sister suffered from an eating disorder for many years and it does such a number on you. Mentally and health-wise, and it doesn't just affect your health short term.

It's just so difficult to accept since I was 65cm for the longest time. I'm not an unhealthy weight and as >>10395047 mentioned I fit into brand well and a few modern pieces do fit a bit big.

When I stopped going to school I went to 67cm and thought it was normal since I wasn't exercising, and now I'm 70cm and just feel awful you know?

I started exercising daily for 30 minutes and plan on increasing this gradually. I'm trying to be healthy when I lost weight and not go the "easy" route.

I’m ayrt. Look into who funded those food desert studies. Supermarket chains, in several cases. They’re making the claim that people need their businesses to live.

I make middle class money now, but after I graduated college I lived in section 8 housing while making minimum wage in a white collar job and shopped almost exclusively at Dollar Tree to save money. They have frozen and canned fruits and veg, frozen fish and meat, rice, eggs, pretty much everything you need to eat a healthy diet on a nonexistent budget. So I saved enough to get a higher degree, travel for interviews, etc., got a better job and now I can shop at the fancy farmers market. Anon who said she’d drive 30 min just to shop at Whole Foods (as if anyone could tell a Whole Foods cucumber from a 99 Cent Plus cucumber blindfolded) while living in a poor neighborhood is pretty depressing, but I guess it’s the same mindset that would lead someone to spend all their money on pretty clothes they can’t afford.

A lot of the fatter lolitas must take a long time squeezing into these dresses and must be constantly uncomfortable. It’s very hugboxy and there are some non-efamous lolitas that manages to sneak in who can’t dress themselves and nobody ever says anything about it. I’m talking ‘unzipped dress’ bad. I'm only taking issue with the comment because I've seen anons in the past shit on a good coord JUST because it had holo shoes.
And then not long after, there are a load of anons shitting on the CCF holo shoes calling it an ita magnet, etc.

The pandemic has gotten me really depressed and I'm currently a trainwreck. I have bpd, bills to pay, and I recently had to go to the ER bc of self harm. I didn't tell any of my friends or family bc I don't want them to worry. I don't really have a good support system.. I have trust issues. I had to post some of my precious items for personal sale to cover the expenses made things worse bc of the angry dms I've received about items that sold out. The next thing after you are more honest with yourself is to buy stuff with shirring. Since you have no real bust to waist ratio, buy cuts that make it look like you do.

I think I'm being sensitive for no reason but here goes. Also kind of a question but didn't think it belonged on the J-fashion question thread.

I honestly don't have the courage to attend meets because I'm worried about being judged. I thought the whole idea of "gatekeeping" was exaggerated online but recently I felt pretty stupid after asking a question. Everyone answered politely, but had a condescending edge to it like how "there are now people in the comm who don't know of [this]" (specific thing that I was asking about).

I understand that the lolita community has somewhat aged because it was big during the livejournal days (if I'm correct?). But it was kind of an unpleasant experience being infantalized because I'm new to the fashion and didn't know something. I'm not even really that young and it just felt like they were mocking my inexperience.

How do newbies cope with the pressure and the stress of having to keep up?

There are a ton of people who joined after lj so it isnt that, but it is exhausting to hold newbies hand through life. However you may just be imagining the tone since it is words on a screen not said irl. And depends on the question, although if it was if there was a irl store in the area, or where can I buy lolita, it was well deserved imo.

You can be new and know a lot, and this happens by researching a ton. I find that people who got into fashion or do alt stuff before lolita get it faster. If you are not like that, then do the work to get yourself into the hobby. There are tons of guides out there and things to read, but also it requires a lot of just doing it.

I think meets will probably be more pleasant for you than interacting online. I say this because during my decade+ of being in a lolita comm I've seen so so SO many newbies get upset at interactions with our comm online purely because they're misinterpreting tone. Like you said, even very polite answers often get interpreted as condescending, I guess because newbies are insecure and approach us with the expectation that we're a bunch of meanie elitists. I've seen newbies get upset at people because they didn't use emoticons ("cold, impersonal"), because they DID use emoticons ("sarcastic"), because they ended their sentence with a period ("harsh, rude"), because they ended their sentence with an exclamation mark ("yelling") etc. Those newbies who didn't flounce immediately and actually attended a few meets were always pleasantly surprised at how normal and pleasant we are IRL, where they could see our expressions and body language and all those other things you can't convey over text.

You actually touched on a relevant point that informs a lot of lolita communities: we were big in lj, which had a search function. The social culture of the community formed when “search the archives first and then ask” was both possible and polite. The community still carries the expectation that you do your research before asking questions, which I don’t think is bad in itself although it can get a little touchy. I would suggest reading a lot of blogs, watching videos and ‘lurking’ for a while before you ask. It’s not bad to ask, but we expect you to do work on your own too. It’s what we all did, and in a fashion where shopping is on the more complex end, it’s a skill you will need to cultivate eventually.
