I there a way to have a con online now that covid has killed them all for the year?

>> No.10368919

The point of cons is meet in person people you normally do not see or interact with in person, so no.

>> No.10368926

yes
would it be worth hosting or attending?
no

The only compromise we’ll get is when their booth put their stuff on sale/put out exclusive items on their online stores during the con dates where it would’ve been

>> No.10368937

VR chat actually holds a con every year, which is even sponsored by 7/11 and shit. You can do anything on there. Someone could make a world, have a video player playing, have a live DJ for a rave, etc.

And charge people $50 per person to log in and join.

"Online cons" are completely fucking pointless. Anything that's offered by an online con can be done just as easily, at your convenience, without a con.
Colossalcon tweeted something about being really interested in doing this. It gave me a giggle that the organizer is so naive that they thing anyone will give a fuck.
Just cancel Prime, call it a day, and we'll see you at CCE (maybe).

There's virtual comic con folks are organizing in mid-April, check on Facebook

Couchcon takes place at the end of June. No idea how it works, though...

>Panelists speaking via web conferencing
>Games (online games like Jackbox or things like Anime Trivia)
>Contests (people submit cosplay photos or skits, people vote with likes)
>Artists share their online stores (artists offer special deals/content during the con timeframe so that people are encouraged to browse)
>VR parties, karaoke, “photo shoots” for fandoms... so many options
I’m so bored that all that sounds fun.

>> No.10372981

VRchat is doing a comiket-like event for artists to sell their works... but it wouldn't really work the same way for a normal con outside of the normal AA
Half the fun is being there in person physically

I just looked up the VRchat con and yeah it's not quite the same as a normal con but when I really think about it this could be a decent enough alternative if done right. I've only played VRchat a couple of times but it does start to feel kind of "real" if you're using a VR headset for a long enough time. I've felt like I was hanging out with my old college anime club for a bit there while in one of those anime viewing rooms with people before. Of course VR would remove all the cosplay and fun dress up parts of the con but I think things like panels, viewings, concerts and stuff like that could still be pretty fun and have a similar feel to a real con if set up right.

>> No.10373337

VR cons are pointless because the money you drop on a VR set could be spent on a cosplay. Not everybody wants to (or can) spend that wad of cash on something they'll only use a few times.
VRChat is also kind of limited in customizing and programming your avatar and the world around you.
In some aspects, even that old virtual worlds game (Second World? Second Life?) would be better nowadays if it had an updated engine and a better company. I actually can see it happen if that was the case.

Not to mention server capacity, tech issues, or how easy it would be to troll and crash such a con's servers lol

VRChat is like being at a con 24/7.

Who is going to see your cosplay in person when we are now in an indefinite lockdown?

I'm pretty sure ShineCon is going to happen since the mayor of Las Vegas is opening the casinos.

VKET 4 is going on right now in VRC. Closest thing you'll get to a con probs. Alot of big companies sponsored it and there\s alot of booths.

Of course. I logged into the site recently to see if It would be worth having my group of friends go back to.
None of the old stuff (towns, games) even works anymore so its shit

The local comic con here is doing virtual guest panels and Q&A's and selling one-on-one chats with guests and video messages.
