The association co-op contests give you Karma Sand and Memory Crystal, which is used to craft suits in the Shadow Workshop (this is the only reward for participating in the co-op contests).
If your association tells you not to worry, it either means they've finished crafting the suits and you will be able to collect them after you've gained enough group activity points (by completing commission stages), or they are not interested in the suits at all. You can check by selecting Style Contest>Shadow Workshop and checking to see if there are uncrafted pieces on any of the suits (they will have percentages on them if they are uncrafted).
As for how the co-op contests work:
Typically, you would wait for the game to begin (at the time/day specified on the Style Contest page, Nikki-server time) and then select Team Challenge to match up with someone in the association. This allows you to stack your scores against the NPC and gain more Karma Sand and Memory Crystal. You can do this twice per contest day (twice a week).
You can also attempt the challenge alone for a slightly lower payout (Solo Challenge).

The only reason I could justify paying that much for some pngs is if you ever plan on selling your account in the future. Especially since this event is never coming back which could up the value of your account, otherwise never ever.

My association just keeps to ourselves. There really isn't a good community hub for this game from what I've seen so it feels like the game is dead without threads like these lol

Closest thing is Facebook (teens who foam at the mouth and spend their parents money on every event even when the outfits are meh) and Reddit (90% of the threads are people complaining that there isn't enough skin tones/skin tones having attributes is racist)

Yeah I don't really get a lot of those people. Only people with too much disposable income will ever get even close to 80%ing the wardrobe.

Just save up gems (someone on reddit found that they give you like 50-60k per year or some other ridiculous number like that) and unless you're a spendthrift you can usually get whatever suits you want for a few thousand of those. Ranking events def need to come back though.

Yeah it's not changed at all, I go in every time the game advertises future suits on Facebook just to see how bad it is and it's just consistently been dev-shaming which like... this game doesn't deserve much of. They add more new clothes per month than most dress-up games ever have at all, write events and dialogue for them 99% of players don't even read, and still hold such a niche fanbase with new content and ways to play every few months.

Last time I checked the reddit around a month ago, there were 5ish simultaneous threads about how:
"Skin tones need to work with all other things" (Unrealistic expectation + that'd add a few more GB's to the game)
"More skin tones!"
"Having the 'sexy' or 'lively' or '[insert literally any tag]' attribute for [insert person offended closest skin tone here] is racist, fetishistic, and objectifying me."

As someone who started playing the month the server opened, LN used to be a lot more generous. Suits were almost always under 1k diamonds and recharges were most often in the five dollar range. Now if either of those happen the suit is ugly as sin.
It's still better than most mobile games though! You can easily complete all of the main content without spending money and be competitive in the styling contests.

Yeah I took a year long break and really didn’t feel like I missed out on anything. LN is such a tedious game to play and it’s not that rewarding(?). Games that are nothing but calm and cute get boring after a while and LN’s storyline is super cheesy so even dramatic scenes like Lunar’s death seem cheesy like a kdrama death.

They do have a point that microtransaction-ladden collecting games prey on people with shopping and gambling addictions. Considering the co-morbidity with so many mental illnesses, it's pretty fucked up, especially when completing an event can cost over $100. Personally I know that with my autism and depression I'm at a really high risk of addiction, that's why I never touch microtransactions anymore, they're a serious slippery slope. Gacha games are super exploitative of people with addictive tendencies.

I think what annoys me the most about this "boycott" is not the people choosing by their own will to do it, but rather the fact that those very same people are coercing and guilt tripping others into joining them. I've seen several posts/comments with people looking forward to these suits or being happy that they could afford them, only for someone else to go "You wouldn't want to betray us all, would you? Getting back to the "free suit" problem, yeah, if you put in the time, you'll get almost everything for "free". And conversely, if you pay the money, you don't have to put in the time. You've paid for the convenience of getting a suit literal years before the "free" players.

The issue people that exclusively rely on free diamonds experience when these suits become available for crafting is having to choose between spending their diamonds on the crafting or the latest event (which happen back to back) I do find it pretty weird and unfair that they are just releasing them as a craft suit though. I thought only event suits (minus collab suits) came back as craftable for way more diamonds. They should just make them available for purchase again for a limited time.
