ACEN is pretty fun. I live in downtown Chicago so like 35 - 40 min to get there.
I also go to AWA, Sakura-Con.
Anime Midwest is pretty much a smaller version of ACEN. Tho I heard Anime Midwest is run by a some pedo/creep.

Is Sakura con ok?

I liked Acen more than AWA because I think the bigger events were better run like the costume contest especially. AWA didn't even have skits or any dance offs like Acen did which was more fun to watch. Guess it depends on what you like about them

>> No.10335874

>>10335830
Sakuracon is nice, the problem most people have with it is that it's in seattle so some people don't know how to avoid the homeless down by the river and that it can rain off and on.

My biggest gripes with ACEN are that if you live slightly outside of chicago, airline prices are very weirdly expensive outside a first thing in the am flight or next to midnight last one of the night. I don't even live by a small airport but to come up to ORD in may, I am looking at 225+ right now for thurs-Sun(monday is a tad cheaper but not that much). Driving is a no for after Acen weekend, and bus no thanks. Another issue is food almost always, yes I know where the food shit is but seems the last 3 years some local event has been going on making it slow service or you realize the pricing is fucked. Food trucks are beyond garbo at this one specific con each year for some reason.

Sakuracon, while on the BS west coast shit, at least is surrounded by enough local shit to spread out a bit and the tram is right by the con center which allows you to stay around the con rather than right at it or in the hood. Sakura con has it's drawbacks, but being during sakura season for seattle + photo areas and such. Does suck that it rains somewhat random and that they don't mail badges, but other than that never feels like a chore to get to or be at solo/with a buddy.

Going to ACEN for the first time solely because a friend offered me a spot in their room, and I know a bunch of other people who are going.

I'm from the south so Momocon and AWA are the bigger cons I got to (went to Otakon this past year and it was great too). Momocon is great but is not a party con whatsoever, while AWA is a great party con.

I'm not super big into the raves, I much more enjoy drinking and wandering and interacting with strangers who's cosplays I like.

One of my favorite aspects of con's is the often one-off conversations that you end up having with people. I get social anxiety in the real world so cons are a good respite where I can be myself and talk with people. Have made some good friends this way.

I really like how AWA has the bar in the hotel lobby and that whole area is just a congregation of people. Is that similar to how it is for ACEN?
