Since the last thread got pruned, you can post any sample capsules you made here. You are welcome to still make or fill requests, but let’s open up some conversation to hopefully reduce the stupid

classic lolita here!
>Do you use capsule wardrobes in jfashion
sort of? I've been in the fashion just under a year so it's a small wardrobe by default
>If so, how big is it?
3 white blouses (one short sleeve, one long sleeve, one short sleeve sheer)
two black blouses (one sheer, one not)
3 jsks
1 op
1 skirt
1 bag
3 shoes (black heels, black platform oxfords, brown ankle books)
various legwear/accessories
>Do you use any formulas? >How helpful is capsule going for you?
blouses have to pair with at least 2 main pieces
main pieces have to pair with at least one blouse, preferably two
tights/socks have to pair with either two blouses, two main pieces, or a blouse and a main
it's going well, but I wish I had picked a single main colour when I started out instead of just going ham with main pieces lol
At least all of the colors (as opposed to neutrals) in my wardrobe are all next to each other on the colour wheel so it's fine-ish
it definitely helps me from making stupid purchases though lol

>> No.10322525

>>10322516
I do a lot of laundry and don’t buy print specific headwear, so my ratio something like

If you were new, broke, and someone who wears lolita only on weekends i think it would be
1 main statement piece

2 headpieces minimum
and however many accessories

>> No.10322531

>>10322528
I’d up that to 3 dresses if you are going to meetups. If you go to one once a month, that’s once per season you are wearing them. Less sketch looking

>> No.10322544

I can agree with that because it's probably best to start with your three main pieces and build around them, rather than two. more variety.

I feel like you can get away with fewer main pieces if you have a good variety of blouses/outerwear to change up your looks.

I love white and sax main pieces with only little accents of pink. I wish this is what my actual wardrobe looked like, but sweet doesn’t suit me very well so I tend to stick to VM classic and MMM gothic.

Maybe this has been discussed before on a previous thread which was nuked, but what makes a wardrobe “capsule” versus just someone having a curated style? Some of these wardrobes are as big as an entire wardrobe. I wonder where that line lies with normie clothes too, when I see blog posts and YouTube videos about a capsule wardrobe with more than 60 pieces. The way my wardrobe is currently set up is that I essentially have three capsule wardrobes in three specific themes that I enjoy wearing and I only buy pieces that fit one of those three. I didn’t even really mean to do that but having a bunch of different styles cost too much so I decided to edit down to my faves and realized I’d made 3 distinct “capsules”
and each one has about 4 main pieces. How about you gulls? Where does the line lie for you/what are your experiences?

Also it should have at least 3 coordinates for each main piece

Also i feel like its not really capsule if its more than 5-6 main pieces.

On here I see two main approaches, one is to have a ton of main pieces all with the same few accessories and the other way is to have a ton of accessors/blouses with just a couple main pieces. I can see the advantages of both and I’m with ya on a capsule to me seems like it should be less than 4 or 5 mains, but it would be simple to just put on the same accessories all the time and then get to wear a new main piece each day. I want to get down to a capsule but it’s hard to get rid of loved dresses so I might do that approach.

>Do you use capsule wardrobes in jfashion
Not deliberately, but my wardrobe does effectively consist of a few small capsules, entirely not by design.

>If so, how big is it?
The most definite capsule in my wardrobe is my sweet berry prints in black segment, which is:
- 1 OP
- 2 skirts
- 1 OP and 2 JSKs that aren't berry prints, but match the general style/colours
- 5 or 6 tops, depending on how you're counting
- 3 pairs of shoes
- 8 or 9 socks
- Around 15 items of headwear (I hoard bows)
General colour scheme is black/red/white with a little bit of pink.

>Do you use any formulas?
Not entirely strict formulas, but generally if I'm putting together a hypothetical capsule I'll go with an average of around 5 main pieces, 4 cutsews/blouses, 4 outerwear options, 7 legwear and headwear options, 3 shoes, 2 bags. Definitely focus more on options than dresses!

>How helpful is capsule going for you?
IRL don't actually do it deliberately, but I really enjoy putting them together digitally, and it's helped me hone my eye for coordination.

>If not, do you want one?
Not really, but it's good to practise in case I ever want to take lolita with me when I travel, for example.

>>10322516
I'd roughly agree with you, but it's more about ratios and scale. For a wardrobe with less than say ten main pieces I feel you need more blouses/outerwear options than main pieces, say a 1:2 ratio. Once the wardrobe has say 20 main pieces, you can get closer to a 1:1 ratio and beyond that you can get to a point where you just increase main pieces.

Though I did just check my own wardrobe, and I have 29 main pieces, 22 cutsews/blouses, and 17 outerwear pieces. So more of a 3:4 ratio.

But I guess we're talking capsules so if I had to make a rule I'd say for each main piece you should have 1 blouse or cutsew, one outerwear, two legwear, two headwear. The whole wardrobe needs at least two pairs of shoes and two bags.

Look at it this way, all you did was start some argument on cgl that will be forgotten next week. That's pretty much a regular occurrence on cgl and nothing really surprising. At any rate it's better than getting some lying asspats that it's good and then going out and spending money only to find you can't even make coords with it after it arrives.

As for getting better at putting together wardrobes:

When you put together capsule wardrobes you need to stop and try to put together some coords rather than rounding up everything that fits your colour scheme that you can find. For eg in this wardrobe you have 2 high-waisted tops and one hoodie. The high-waist tops won't look good paired with the skirt, so you really only have the white blouse and black blouse that goes with the skirt, and both pairings are too modern to work with any of the 3 headdresses you've included. Right there is already two coords you can't complete due to a style mismatch, and we haven't even talked about how you're stuck with either short white socks or shorter white socks because the lace-up OTKs are a bit much to go with them as well.

Probably easier to start smaller. Pick just 2 main pieces and work on finding coording items that will match both of them. Try to eliminate things that look too similar as well, for eg you have two white blouses with cross neck collars with no real reason why you're keeping two, the one that isn't low-waisted will work under jsks as well, the difference in the sleeves means squat since both your jsks are old school anyway.

It's not a bad start, you just need to pay a little more attention to the pieces you put into your capsules.

I think this looks better!
If you wanted to expand it I would say add a pair of plain over the knee or knee highs and a cute cutsew cardigan.
I find when people wear skirts with a relatively plain white blouses like that it is also nice to add accessories to bring balance. Maybe a black bow pinned at the neck. That is the sort of stuff that is easier to see once you try it all on together so I think you did much better. I really like the black cutsew for a casual outfit.

Seconding the plain socks. Black skirt and black top can be paired nicely with more complex legwear, but I've found that a plain white blouse with a dark skirt doesn't look right with busy socks as there's just too much attention called to the lower half.

This capsule will take you through 6-8 meets without a really noticeable repeat. Get your substyle with main color and accent color set first, only buy those, not just any kind of pieces, be picky and get your basics set up first.
So...
1 jsk,
2 skirt,
2 blouses, better if they have button sleeves for long/short
1 op
1 cardigan or bolero
1 petti of correct shape is essential, you have nothing without this!
3 headwear
2 or more legwear, patterned but not printed tights are good in basic colors
1 shoes, 2 is better, but let them be actual lolita shoes
1 bag
Few actual lolita accessories, 3-5. You can use some loliable accessories but it’s good to have wrist cuffs, lolita bow, maybe 1-2 brand pieces of accessories.
If cold where you live, choose 1 outerwear that at least looks classic and loliable, you can wear that with your normie clothing ok.
Am I forgetting something? Wig is not essential but if you have very non-lolita hair, it helps.

I don't own this, but here's a larger sized capsule (perhaps closer to a small wardobe) I put together and like to daydream about.

>Do you use capsule wardrobes in jfashion
Yes, it helps me to think of different parts of my wardrobe as separate 'capsules.' I've definitely become more efficient in what I buy, instead of being tempted by random dresses all the time. I don't keep myself locked into one specific capsule though--I still have quite a few dresses that I wouldn't consider part of a capsule.

It's also is useful for when I'm traveling. I can grab a few of each item and not have to spend time in advance specifically planning out coords or what to wear on each day.

>If so, how big is it?
I have a large 'classic florals' capsule, and a smaller 'dark colors' capsule that is less cohesive/contains more things I bought before I figured out my preferred styles. The florals one is honestly too large to be a 'true' capsule anymore with 8-9 main pieces, but it's still a helpful way to think about that side of my wardrobe.

>Do you use any formulas?
When starting out I used this ratio but tailored to my personal preferences (no OPs): 2 jsks, 1-2 OPs, 1-2 skirts. Pick a base color (either black or white) and an accent color. When starting out I found it easier to get 1-2 pairs of legwear, shoes, and a minimal amount of accessories.

>How helpful is capsule going for you?
Staying simpler at first made it easier to think about what parts of the outfit I wanted to emphasize, tone down, or lean into. After wearing most of my pieces together at least once, adding more things that matched most/all of the capsule became a lot easier. Now I am working on expanding my accessories, leg wear, and shoes. It lets me find the places where my wardrobe is severely lacking (bags!!!) as well.

>> No.10326837

What? No they don't. I've been able to get tons of socks from fril and mercari and there are always more that I don't buy. Just search brand name plus obaaknee (in katakana obv) or whatever key word you want, sort by recent and click the "hide sold out" button and save that as a bookmark. Check it a couple times a day. Super easy.

As for brand socks I know that with Baby even if they're sold out you can just use their backorder form and they'll often find some stock for you.

>> No.10326900
