I'm trying to do Cathy from AoD but I have no clue what to even type in to pull up that kind of suit that she wears. Im making an Issac Foster for a friend from scratch which is what the real effort is going to be put into, so I want to go kind of cheap for her, but the shitty amazon version is like, too shitty. If that makes sense. I already have the boots thank god.

I haven't seen a pattern that has all of these components, so you can either draft it yourself off of simple pattern blocks (a hood, circle skirt, and bodice) or you can frankenstein some commercial patterns. Let me know if you need help identifying the pieces of the outfit.

Shade range isn't an issue because I'm fair-skinned but not super pale, and I don't care if it's bad for your face because it's going on my arm

I'm trying to cosplay Yujiro from Baki, the problem is that I'm trying to put more effort into it than a long red wig and loose black clothes, how could I try to make the costume more like Yujiro besides the already mentioned description?

So I want to cosplay Cliff from Death Stranding for an con next month and up until now I've only ever cosplayed anime or anime styled characters so I'm not really sure how to do "realistic" wigs. What kind of wig would be best for this character and very generally how would you style it? I'm so fucking used to anime bangs .

Definitely a lace front. In some of the more popular realistic character cosplayers like with Cliff, the trick seems to be in matching the characters' facial structure and defining features. For example, Cliff has a narrow nose, high cheek bones, and a brooding brow, so your job would be to emulate that using makeup.

Oh I completely forgot to talk about styling. This part is easy. All you need is some Got2b Glued gel and patience. Tape a reference photo to your wall and really get those piecey bangs in the right position - do some light curling and setting if need be (a straightener should accomplish this just fine). Spray with Got2b Freeze to set and you should be good to go. The styling is really light here, as I mentioned, focus on the face.

Joanns is the least value of all fabric shopping options. Use fabrics.com and syfabrics. Sy fabrics has really cheap swatches but no returns. Fabrics.com has free returns but more expensive ($3.00) and larger swatches. I've used both and like them a lot. I never shop for fabric at Joanns anymore

For a realistic character you want to go for a thinner wig since humans don't have that crazy anime volume in their hair. So brands like arda and coscraft are completely off the table.
Use eyeshadow or copic markers or whichever technique is your favourite to color in some high and lowlights to make the color more natural, I always put dark eyeshadow in the roots and it gives the wig more depth and makes it look less 2d.

How do you design a suit to be made for printing? I don’t see a lot of tutorials online on this and what I mean is like drawing it on Photoshop or something. I’m specifically trying to design a Spidey costume from my own imagination/preference

How do I do the tears on the stockings like this without having them fall apart? I've been trying to look for stockings with this design too but all the keywords I've been using have been no dice.

I agree that a thinner style would suit the character, but I wouldn't put those sites off the table completely. It's better to thin out a thick wig with scissors than it is to see weft track lines. Aside from those options, there's also l-email wigs, epiccosplay, some sellers on Amazon, etc.

I checked the TSA website. It says carry on and checked bags are okay. I guess just bring your lightsaber and put it in the overhead bin?

I'm looking to cosplay Kaneda from Akira at some point next year, I've had a look around for official releases of the jacket he wears and had no luck, all the fanmade ones look the same as well so I'm unsure of where I can get a decent one, can someone point me to a good one to get?

What resin brands are best for casting tons of really thin pieces? Epoxy preferred since this costume has a lot of stained glass looking pieces so I want to be able to mix large quantities of colors without worrying about them hardening before I get to them.

Depends on what finish you want, if you want crystal clear the dicemaking group I'm in loves Liquid Diamonds and Art Resin. Those aren't available where I live so I use Resin4Decor which is also pretty good. I couldn't really tell you how sturdy they are though.

Is all the bluster some places make about not using knockoff/nonprescription contacts legit? If so, where is good for color contacts? I need a blue pair for Junko and my friend needs a red pair for Kamakura, but only she has a prescription for contacts because my eyes aren't broken lmao.

So 9s' collar. I patterned it to be a shawl collar because it looks like it folds over from the top of the center front panel. But I made a mockup using a shawl collar style and it closes way too high on the neckline. Any way I can fix this and still keep it a shawl collar? I want the dip of my collarbones to be showing. I was thinking of lowering the stand of the collar and backing the shoulder seam off the neckline. I'm not opposed to making his collar separate from the neckline, but wanted to explore this option first.

Friends and I all went to go see Promare today and we're planning a cosplay group for a con next year. I know everyone and their dogs are going to be cosplaying Lio, so I'd like to hopefully stand out just a little by trying to emulate the magenta and aqua lighting he has in the film.

How would I go about this? Not new to sewing but I've never really messed with changing the material itself. Also, do you think it'd look better with a soft or hard edge (like a gradient or just a solid line)?

The problem here is that you're making the collar as one piece with a fold, which means the fold will be a straight line. To create that gentle curve and show a bit of collarbone, you need to put a seam just under the edge of the fold, and make the edge of both the inner piece and the outer piece curved so once assembled and folded over, it will have that curve. Rather than a shawl collar, look at patterns for double breasted coat collars like pic related, just without the notch.

I've seen a couple different ways people have approached this, @kitteacats on IG painted the edges of the belts and @a_smile_and_a_song used white piping painted pink and blue. You could do like the other anon suggested and do cel shading, or source a fabric with an iridescent/holographic coating to get the reflections, I know swatch-on has a bunch of those. If you do cel shading, I would do hard edges.

Would recommend looking up tutorials for Ragyo from Kill La Kill if you're interested in having lights in your wigs to emphasize the flame aspect, but I can't imagine it being easy for beginners. Regardless, I second using a foam base (not cardboard) and looking up CowbuttCrunchies tutorials.

So, I've felt really insecure/ugly in cosplay these past couple years, but I feel a lot better when I cosplay girls. Most of my fav characters are males though, so I crossplay 90 percent of the time. I just feel like I look gross when doing it honestly. Does anybody have any recommendations on how to appear, like, prettier, or at least more attractive with makeup while crossplaying? I already do a full face with contouring and eyeliner , brows, etc, but I hesitate to cross over that line where it becomes too feminine? But I'm thinking maybe I should if it makes me feel better abt myself? IDK. If anybody has some recs for good ways to do male makeup that don't go TOO over the top I'd be super interested.

I'm having a little trouble groking what his hair would look like IRL. It's sort of a widow's peak, but more often it's drawn as rounded rather than pointed. It looks swept back, but its too short to be a pompadour (or afro, but I'm not planning on doing the Pink Jacket incarnation).

Choosing a character honestly comes down to a couple of factors. Ask yourself these questions to narrow down the field.

1. What's your budget? To answer this, I like to create a breakdown of the character's costume from head to toe including undergarments and make up. Then I take a look at what tools/materials I have and what I need. Estimate the cost. You really have to be honest with yourself here. Reference prices online if need be.
2. What's your time frame? If the con is in 3 days, you cannot start working on Alphonse from Full Metal Alchemist tonight.
3. What's the weather like at the con? Don't die from heat stroke or hypothermia. This doesn't make summer outfits a no-go for winter cons, but you need to plan accordingly.
4. Will this costume limit your mobility? Do you have access to a handler or a game plan if it does?
5. Do you love this character enough to carry you through the breakdowns, burnouts, and frustrations? You are putting your time, money, and energy into this. Make sure it's a character you really care for or a convention you really care for.

The budget will more than likely be around 300$. I don’t have a sewing kit and I have never sewn before but I wouldn’t mind trying it out.

Making an entire costume by hand would be a nightmare. I think the reason the other poster asked if you had some sewing skill is because sometimes premade costumes can come a little piecemeal. Some parts of premade costumes are great and others aren't. Being able to alter them is handy to suit your needs and budget. As I said initially though, you need to do some research to get a better picture of what you need. Use youtube and google. "Where to buy cosplay costumes". There's literally thousands of intensive and well-thought out guides that we just don't have the time or need to do when there's plenty of resources out there. So, this is in no way a wig for a beginner, but if you have experience or are dead set on doing it, I'd definitely recommend using a foam core. I would personally proceed by starting with a short white wig that you can tie back into a small ponytail and dying the fibers black with a marker (there are also a lot of tutorials like this online) to get the black and white striping. If you have an airbrush, this would also be a good time to use it.
For the bangs, I would recommend either using a foam core and gluing that onto the base wig or buying a white ponytail clip and teasing it to make the shape, and then dying the fibers again to get the black onto it. As for the actual ponytail, you're going to need to use a foam base and glue the wig fibers onto it to make the shape, reference the tutorials posted and honestly consider only doing one of his hair tentacle things just for convience.

Bought this guy from Taobao and while I’m satisfied with the costume overall, I feel like I could spruce it up by redoing the jacket in a better fabric. The only issue is I don’t know what material to make it from: faux leather, pleather, or denim. I’d prefer something matte, personally, and whatever gives off the better cowboy vibe since that tends to be his theme.

I would either buy the metal accessories from the dangerous ladies, or you could make them from foam and clay yourself. You have several options for remaking it. If you want a stage outfit look, you can go with a patterned jacquard or matte satin for the sparkly, over the top look. If you want to be more accurate to the flatter art, then solid twill (either polyester or poly-cotton mix) or garbadine may work. 100% cotton is easy to work with, but wrinkles too easily and also might come across as too matte/quilting grade if you get the cheaper stuff.

It's a blue jacket with a red front panel and a red skirt. It's in no way a dress originally.
My recommendation is that you make a base blue jacket with a loose Mandarin collar (+ embellishments) and zipper in center front and envision the red panel in the front as a nonfunctional piece entirely save for the button closures. if it saves time, you can even make the panel purely sewn-on or held by snaps and the buttons decorative.

I'm making a similar top for Annette from FE3H, and the question is really how you want the panel to function. A common way I see people doing it is making the top all blue with the buttons going down, and then the red panel separately to be buttoned on. I don't like this personally because it can make the ends of the panel stick out from the fabric. But it does mean that you have a functional jacket that can open/close properly. Another way of doing it is literally sewing the panel onto the jacket in two parts, with an invisible zipper going down the middle. I'm just sewing my panel right onto the jacket and having it be a pull on top rather than a jacket.

Personally, I like the fabric choices and fit for the Amazon one. The capelet looks a little shiny though. You should photograph it with flash to make sure it isn't too shiny. If it is, it'd be easy to fix. Same with the wrist cuffs. They're a little more yellow than gold. You'd want a matte bronzed gold or antique gold. If you want to cheat you can do a headband of the braid on the top and just do the braiding at the bottom.

Otherwise the braid is a fishtail that looks like turns into a normal 3 stranded braid. It would be 2 pigtails that you would just pin around her head. If you wanted to be fancy you could try to combine the 2 ends to be one as she only has one on her head somehow despite the hairstyle is symmetrical.

Fish tail is actually really easy, but practice a bit if you are new to braids.

I would replace the tassel strings on the left breast, the braided trim around the cuffs & collar, and make a more yellow capelet. After the costume arrives you can go into a joanns or something to try and match the fabric to a cute braided trim

I have no idea how this works. The seam down the front, it's not piping because that's not how piping works, you'd stab yourself. And on my dress form, since I'm working with muslin, I end up needing to make 2 darts.

Anyone know of a halter design like this I could find a pattern from? The stitching along the front seems decorative, not like strips of leather. But I really can't make sense of it on my own.

Be conservative with the spray and have a blow dryer handy to dry it almost as soon as you spray it. Spray in very short bursts, you need very little and can always go back and add more if you need more hold.

You can use a fine toothed comb or soft brush to go through the section after spraying to make sure there's no frizzy bits or flyaways then use the blow dryer while holding or pinching the end part of the bang.

You'll know you've sprayed too much if there's like little white bubbles or bits that dry on it; smoothing it over with a little bit of water on your finger can help get rid of that if that happens.

I've done bags with got2b a lot. First brush out the bangs evenly and do a light layer of got2b over all of it. The spray is quite strong so a little goes a long way. It should dry pretty quickly, brush with a fine tooth comb again to get the fibers straightened out and also they will bunch up a little, which will look more natural. Now using your fingers, pull/twist together the pieces of the bangs to what you want them to look like. Snip/trim off any bits that are too long. Spray over the bangs again now to set them. Since it's a very simple hairstyle, you can just leave the wig and wait like 10 minutes for the spray to dry and you're done.

I would pattern this like a long-line strapless bra initially and then add the straps in, especially since the halter part looks like it's attached under the 'bra' part. You might find this easier than drafting from a bodice block. The bust part looks like a two-piece cup; I would probably just draft the whole thing as a front-closing strapless bra with a two-piece, foam lined cup and underwire as I have a lot of push-up bras that are a similar shape. The band should have vertical plastic boning along the sides where those grey chevron areas are to keep it smooth. Then I would look at putting the denim over the top and possibly manipulating pattern pieces to hide some of the seams you would need on a bra - e.g. extending the seam from the two-part cup down to the band, and hand-tacking the denim down to where the underwire channel will be. sew or hotglue the hat onto a thin, short circle of of elastic so you can stretch it under your cats chin. And then wait until he/she is sleeping and gently place it on him and take the photo quick before he/she wakes up cause they do not usually like to have things on for long.

You can get elastic at any sewing or crafting store, and sometimes at larger department stores if they have a little sewing section (but you won't have as many options for thickness).

It doesn't work that amazingly. It was just a ghetto hack discovered like over 10 years ago now. It does coat your wig in chemicals that may give you a desired result but wigs have improved and gotten a lot cheaper since those days. You're usually better off investing in a good non-shiny wig to start or just rebuying them when they get trashed.

Try and ask the OP of that if you can. Make a foam base that’s shaped like your head or a “bucket”. This is what fursuiters do. Add extra shaped chunks of foam for your desired shape then add on fur. Not too sure about what they used for the glowing eyes, maybe try finding some of those cheap round shaped lights that turn on when you press them?

I’ve tried it once to help detangle a wig and it didn’t do shit. I don’t know if it was because the fabric softener was cheap or if it was my wigs fibers. I’ve found that a little bit of baby powder helps get rid of shininess in wigs and dulls vibrant colors.

The whole weapon is about 99% foam board. Not too heavy, but I'm skeptical if normal black magnets would be able to hold it up even if I used every bit of surface area. The strong neodymium ones would be fine, but expensive probably. And velcro seems like easy solution, I could get white and black pieces, but it would stand out on the coat either way.

Bought my first clip on ponytail wig from amazon and I’m running into multiple problems with it. I can’t figure out how the ponytail part clips on, or how I clip it on to actually look good? It looks awkward when I clip it on, I can provide a picture if needed.

And then the back where it was pulled into the ponytail stub is messy. Should I just take it out of that and restyle it? pic related.

And lastly, it tangles badly. Especially the long ponytail clip. I just tried the silicone spray method but it didn’t work well, it mostly just made it stringy and greasy, and I tried to spray it from far away and up close. Spray I used was Blaster industrial strength, if that matters.

The elastic tightens the wig clip. The netting part is separate from the clip actually. You can tuck the elastic inside and clip onto the ponytail stab if that's the look you're going for. Works best for ponytails that start at the side of a head, may become awkward if you want to clip near the top of the head because of the length of the clip.

I'm not entirely knowledgeable on makeup and don't know if your wearing makeup but I will just assume your a complete newby to makeup from here on out.

If you wan't to look more feminine then the eyebrows definitely need to be plucked or covered. As a side note females tend to have more curved eyebrows so you may wan't to aim for that when redrawing them or shaping them. False eyelashes and/or mascara will help you ALOT, do not underestimate eyelashes and their feminizing power. If you go for mascara and false eyelashes then get one which won't deteriorate the glue holding the false eyelashes in place. Finally, its best to buy a multi pack of cheaper false eyelashes then a pair of very nice ones. There will be many trials and errors with false eyelashes and cleansing eyelashes to reuse is not beginner friendly, especially if your traveling.

Face wise, research a skin routine for your skin type as a starter. Without a nice base your makeup will look trash or not reach its full potential. Then find a primer for your skin type, it might sound like a extra cost but you wan't to have a good base so everything which comes afterwards will stay there and doesn't reveal your pores to the world. Foundation will be a pain because it involves knowledge of skin type, skin tone, and the undertones but don't overlook these or else your going to be cakey/greasy/look off. I hear from everybody that concealer should be one or two shades lighter then your skin tone and don't pile on layers of it to fix redness in the skin or beard discoloration, color correcting will should handle that. To be clear, color correcting is when a product of a opposite color is used to counteract another color. EX: Green counteracts redness. These should all be applied with moderation so they aren't apparent when blended out.

These are some basic things you might wan't to know:
-Buy some cheap well reviewed makeup brushes off amazon. They will give you better results then finger painted makeup.

-Buy a beauty blender. It will help you apply creams and other products better then a brush can.You don't need a actual authentic $20 one but don't buy a ten plus bag of small sponges, they are likely for REMOVING makeup or they are just a terrible product.

-Clean your makeup appliers. Those things will become germ havens if you don't clean them ounce in a while.

-Don't skip over the expensive makeup. Some makeup is actually expensive for a reason, its not all about the logos. Some expensive makeup can contain ingredients drugstore makeup can't use because of the cost. Splurge where it is needed.

-Minis are a steal. This is more for expensive makeup, but travel size makeup exists so if the con is only 3 days then these can be much more affordable then the regular size for everything.

Wigs have the staying power to last through the whole day for picture after picture and beyond. Especially if you need an extreme anime style, then go for a wig. I agree and disagree with >>10317376. Regardless of character, you should always have a basic "no makeup" makeup look involving: foundation (BB cream or a concealer + pressed powder combo are also options), concealer (if not used above), eyebrow product (pencil, powder, gel, etc.), natural colored lip stick or chapstick, and a setting spray. In your case, I would recommend shaping your brows a bit. Either get them done professionally for like $11-20 or simply watch a youtube tutorial about how to comb them out and trim with scissors. Additionally, practice with your eyeliner. Use the tape method if you have to and be sure to straighten out wavy lines with makeup remover.

For foam armors, I usually make all the pieces with paper and tape them together. Try the armor on and if the result doesn't convince you, make new patterns. Rinse and repeat. Once the desired result is achieved, you carefully remove/cut the tape and trace the pieces on your foam.
Or if money is not a problem you can prototype with foam directly, but good quality foam is expensive and I cannot afford that,

trying to make sure i've got my 3d printed replica assembly/painting process right here

ok, so the shaft is printed in segments and has a slot down the middle for a pex pipe to work as a spine. i'm gonna fasten the segments to the pipe with expanding white gorilla glue, and to each other with plain old super glue. then i'm gonna prime the shaft and spraypaint it glossy red https://i.imgur.com/0dt3NI2.png

the fittings of the cane (orb, collar, and tip) are all printed separately, and i'm gonna prime them all and spraypaint the orb dark gold and the collar and tip light gold https://i.imgur.com/W9Ne9mt.jpg

then i take delicate frogtape and mask the filigree on the shaft, and take a craft knife with a fresh blade to carefully clean it up, then some flexible tamiya vinyl masking tape to fix any fuckups, then re-prime(?) and spraypaint the filigree light gold, then carefully remove it all and pray it worked without fucking up the red paint

am i forgetting anything? am i retarded? i know not to topcoat b/c i'm using metallic paints

Haven't yet, but what I'm planning to do is have hidden pockets inside of a skirt for maybe my phone and wallet. Depending on your character, you can hide pockets under folds or articles of clothing, tucked into boots or shoes, socks, sleeves. You can also have pockets inside of a shirt or pants.

This is of course if you're not into carrying any bags or anything like that at all and if your costume allows it.

Does anyone have experience with making hoopskirts? I was wondering if I could avoid spending $80 on metal hoop boning, but I have no clue if polyester or plastic boning will keep shape. Buying the hoopskirt isn't an option either.

Does anyone know how and where I'd go about commissioning someone for a pair of shoes? Pic related is what I'm after, so it's by no means that complicated, to the point where I've been trying to find if there was just like a legit cobbler or somehit I could commission to do it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Plastic boning will always warp over time. It's better to invest in steel hoop boning if you plan to keep your hoop skirt.

You can put foundations on top of silicone breastplates to further color match it, but desu I've never seen fake boobs actually look good on anyone. If you're a woman, they sit weirdly on top of your already existing boobs and are always out of proportion with real human torsos. Also read the reviews on Taobao before you buy them because cheap ones tend to have really thick, visible seams.

trim your seam allowance within a very thin margin of the stitching line (always making sure never to clip into it) and then clip vertically into the curves so that it gives the fabric a chance to flex. You can either use an inverted V-shape cut that removes fabric (if you have enough left behind to do so) or simple slits will do. If you need a visual guide, just let me know.
