Work for a high end couture storefront in a lowly position. But, sometimes designers for our fashion lines come in and I’ve overheard them call dresses in the thousands of dollars a “she” because they possess a certain amount of pride. It seems to be an ingrained part of fashion culture. This is quite common.

It's actually masculine in my language, so I find this funny.

Anyway, I feel that a lot of people do this with inanimate objects, not just dresses (though this is my first time hearing anyone do it with dresses, is it said seriously or in a joking way?)

People sometimes do the same with cars.

Fascinating irony.

Sound association could be a thing, based on language consideration. For example, in cars, Toyota/Honda/Mazda are more likely to be refered to as "she" because of the final "a" characteristic to female names (Anna, Elena, Maria etc). Audi/VW/BMW are regarded as masculine due to the sonority of name. But Lexus and Maserati are butch femme and nobody can convince me otherwise.
A "dress" is associated with the female gender, so I guess by polarity it becames a "she" in familiar speech.

Does anyone else have a tough time buying certain pieces for your wardrobe because you're so picky? I rarely find blouses that I like and it's driving me nuts. I can't survive on only having 4 basic blouses anymore, especially now that I have a job where I can be a daily lolita.

>> No.10258737

>>10258734

>>10258734
I'm picky about most of stuff. I have separate wishlist for accessories that I want to be exact + I keep in mind some blouses, cardis and also prints that I specifically care to have matching legwear. Sometimes I do consider alternatives, but it bothers me that I may end up spending money and stay unsatisfied. The most annoying is that I still can't get myself lolita shoes because everything I see so far is either too basic, or uncomfortiable, or too flat, or too expensive (I really love brand designs, but idk).

>> No.10258743

I scoured the Taobao store I bought one of my favorite blouses from and found out that they remade the blouse, so I'm gonna buy a few in different colors to stock up! I also recently got a new sewing machine, so I'll probably start making my own blouses as well.
Tbh one of my biggest problems is that 2 of the basic blouses are from Taobao brands and Taobao brands discontinue collections so quickly. I want to find a few more brand blouses that I love so that I can maybe another one secondhand to have multiples.

>>10258739
I feel the exact same way about blouses as you do about shoes. I want my wardrobe to look more vintage (think Fanny Rosie's) than outright lolita, so everything I find is too ott, would be unflattering, or has details that I don't like. These anons are right. My tastes have changed and gone in circles time and time again, but I'm glad I never bought everything I saw and liked when I was 16 and just getting into the fashion because nothing would ever get touched. Even though back then I felt bad for not having a huge wardrobe or a lot of prints, the things that have stayed in my wardrobe on constant rotation are my blouses, outerwear, hair accessories and the like and I'm always on the hunt for more stuff to pad out my wardrobe.

When I buy new blouses, jackets and legwear I often come up with whole new coords for some of my oldest main pieces, because I suddenly have all these ideas for different colour combos and silhouettes. It's not about having a huge amount of dresses and skirts right off the bat, it's about getting versatility out of what you do have. Most of the girls who have huge wardrobes have been wearing the fashion and buying dresses for over a decade.

It's also really unlikely that you'll find a huge amount of things readily available that a.you can afford all at once, and b.you actually like and aren't just buying because it's available/cheap/someone else wore it/whatever other reason that will result in a piece sitting in the back of your wardrobe. It's easier to build up little by little rather than committing to having a huge amount of dresses you can't even coordinate.

I'd be surprised if any of the ddlgs actually read Lolita. The book is beautifully written but very disturbing, and from the book itself there's not anything to fetishize. Lolita herself isn't even a "cute little girl" but rather a badly behaved tomboy who refuses to wash her hair. She says in explicit terms that Humbert raped her, and nowhere is it actually treated as a love story, the book is about abuse.

The movies, on the other hand, are shit and do fetishize the story which is probably how it got so popular in ddlg.

U ironically my favourite book is lolita. I read it with the intent of hating it (I was interested in EGL first, I had never read the book) but the mindfuck of the beautiful poetic language and the vile acts, as well as the unreliable narrator made it one of my faves.

Sage for blog post.

Just saying, maybe it's her favourite book for a reason? Melanie Martinez is actually trash though, rape claims aside, her aesthetic is bastardized from jfashion, ddlg and sexualizing children.

Do people still believe the sexual assault thing? Timothy was really sketchy when asked to back up her story, and the witch hunt for Melanie that followed Timothy making the accusation was insane.
People were burning merchandise, sending her death threats, and encouraging others to do the same, all because some nobody with no evidence, no desire to press charges, and no credibility decided to claim that the ex-friend she was obsessed with (doing copycat and inspired looks on her ig) assaulted her. Nothing added up, it was fucked up man.
It's really bad that this accusation is still following her.

That's advice people give when you are just starting so you have a common color and can build up accessories that can be used for multiple dresses when you are just getting into the fashion.

Now that you've done so and likely have accessories that fit the majority of your wardrobe, you can branch out, add colors, make coords more interesting.

If you're not bored of it keep buying blue pieces, but even adding in accent colours can take your coords to the next level. When I first started most of my wardrobe was black x white x blue and I found it so boring, my coords felt formulaic and basic and I just wasn't happy. I don't know how moitiefags do it honestly.

After I started adding a few red, pink and green pieces I felt like my whole wardrobe had suddenly opened up to all these new possibilities. Having blouses that are different colours and patterns especially goes a long way.

You misunderstood cohesiveness with single color scheme. Having a cohesive closet with blue would mean for example:

> one white main piece with blue accent colors, one red main piece with blue accent colors

I don’t want to use discord, but this thread is no longer very interesting. People screech at you if you bring up a discussion point or post your thoughts or a (not stupid) question, saying it’s irrelevant to this thread. Which just leaves people posting new releases in this thread. I can find new releases by myself on basically any other platform so it’s quite dull here.

can anyone recommend some indie brands or lolita seamstresses who release custom made coats? I'm a big bitch and I really want a nice white coat with great details for my sweet winter coords. pic related is only available in my least favorite color, and Maxicimam has so little detail in their plus size coats. Looking for things as close to brand level as possible. I'm craving the kind of coat that stands out like a main piece.

I wouldn't judge any of that, there's some shitposters trying to start an argument in the stupid questions thread as well, so it's getting bumped.

Whether it's Tyler or whoever brought in the influx of newbies, they've taken up shitposting like it's air. The last few generals only moved faster due to that kind of silly arguments that no real lolita even cares about, it's only interesting to the 11-year-old children using it to distract themselves from their schoolwork.

I hope that most of the actual lolitas are just lying low waiting for them to get bored and leave and haven't entirely abandoned cgl altogether.

>>10262964

I took that anon to mean it's time for Halloween coords to get posted, not for the releases to happen. There's usually a few times of the year when there's a spike in the number of coords posted -- Halloween, Christmas, and both ILDs.

Not gonna talk about whether the coords are costumey or not. CoF likes costumey coords even if it happens without Halloween.

Tenso is better for WW imo, you don't need to wait for your SS to order it for you. You order and pay yourself, then send it to your Tenso address. So little chance for your stuff to sell out before they place the order for you. When it arrives you can pick the shipping method of your choice and even mark your package down. Their handling fee is by far the cheapest, ranging from free to 75 yen.

>> No.10263059

>>10263043
I used them once and never again (somehow managed to get stuck in customs which has never happened to me any other time because they marked my invoice wrong rip) but looking back in my history, it took them over 13 hours to 'check' and confirm. I paid straight away, they bought it less than an hour later but it was during business hours.

The annoying thing is that they don't actually send emails to tell you that they've bought the items, you have to keep checking your order status on their website. The next email notification you get is when the stuff gets to their warehouse. This was back in January this year though, so maybe they've improved but from the sounds of how long it takes them to "check" probably not.

It'd depend on what time you pay, and then if they miscalculate the shipping or anything they refund your 'wallet' and you have to add more funds before they go through with the purchase so that takes more time, especially if your time zone is far apart. If you complete your payments during their business hours they're not too bad, but otherwise they're not great.

Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I've always found Zenmarket take like a day to "check" prices and then another day to buy them (particularly if you're in a GMT±3 hours zone, i.e. our night time is basically their working hours). Woe betide you if they make a mistake with pricing the first time around lol, I had to wait almost 4 days for that Kira Imai dress earlier this year and was terrified it'd sell out in the meantime.

Japonica is quickest in my experience. They often grab things within half an hour if I order during office hours (and occasionally outside of, which is bizarre.) I know people have mixed experiences with them tho, and I've heard all sorts of theories re: why they "favour" certain customers. It’s like they completely forgot that tomboys exist and they jumped straight to the trans label instead. Liking masculine/feminine things doesn’t somehow make you trans, the trans community seems to enforce gender stereotypes more than everyone else ironically.

Being trans doesn’t usually dictate your interests but I very rarely meet cis men, even gay cis men, who like to wear dresses or anything remotely girly, so it seems weird that an overwhelming amount of trans men are interested in dressing in feminine clothing. Seems like too much to be a coincidence.

She wants to be seen as both the 'lady of salt' and ~such a good ally uwu~ at the same time but it doesn't work. Her non LWLN content doesn't really work either since it's just her being oblivious to anything outside of her AP bubble.

Lor on the other hand definitely sugarcoats things way too much that she looks fake, but she seems to be more genuine recently. She admits she was wrong and gave bad advice in the past and some of her new content is pretty informative and well produced. I also find when she talks about social justice she she seems less fake/pandering than Tyler does. Maybe that's because she's actually gay though. Tyler just seems like she's overcompensating for being cishet/white/skinny at times.
