I know your post is old, but I'm Portuguese.
Cons suck if you aren't a cosplayer (there's nothing to do and they are expensive) or if you don't have a large enough friend group.
I don't cosplay and only like J-fashion/Lolita but the Lolita comm is a mess. They're all old friends and meets are very few and far between and when they happen it's pretty much for said friend group.
That being said I hope you find the courage to put together an outift. I'm uggo too but now I'm at an age where I just want to have fun while I can so I just go out in my frilly dresses.

yeah because you need to grow up and get over it....it feels shitty having that burden placed on others right from the get go, it makes people feel that theyre not worth your time or effort if you never message them. find pics of something they like (animals, character, cool outfits) and send it to them with a "hey hope your day is going well!" or "looks like something youre into!" and keep the convo going if they message back. its not hard if you make it a habit
