u-uh... not yet. I still have a couple more cosplay expenses before my outfit is finished and I'm out of a job until summer because of school. My summer job pays well, but I'll only have one or two paychecks to go off of until AX. Thankfully, I have a nice tax refund coming in and plenty of savings to hold me over in case of emergency; but, I was supposed to be padding my savings rather than spending it since I have such huge financial dry spells in between working seasons. To be honest, I've been ignoring that problem a little bit too much. Wish me luck anons...

Panels, meetups, and the other events/areas at the con. Until this year, I've only ever purchased a 1 day badge and used that day to explore AA and dealer's hall. Now that I've got a 4 day, I want to see everything that I've been missing out on.

I can't really comment on the quality of the AX contest I've never attended, I have only done the Wondercon one back in 2013 and the LACC one this past November so I'm sure it's about the same. As for my cosplay I'll be dawning my Kars cosplay (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) right now I'm on my third iteration of the costume over the span of a year it's evolved and improved so me and a friend with be working on the fourth iteration color the gauntlets use different fabric, I intend to bulk as naturally as humanly possible the next 8 weeks then cut down the last 5 leading up to it, I am insanely pale and definition has trouble showing on me so to circumvent that I'm going to learn to contour my physic as well as practice and improve my make-up, though I know I mostly will not be winning since it's hardly any costume to it and it's not a bodybuilding contest I hope they take into account the time I put into at least attempting to look a little like the character physic wise. I may run into a wall however because this past LACC I was going to enter Kars into the contest, two months out they approved the costume so I got it together, two day's before the con they told me I could no longer use it because it was not family friendly so I send an e-mail to the AX masquerade people to be sure it's approved then I'll hold them to that.

In my experience, yes. Some artists will give out freebies, gifts with purchase, freebies for a task (much like ribbons), or art trades with other artists. You might not get randomly approached, but people at meetups, people you talk to in line, artists at booths, or cool cosplayers you seem would appreciate them! I'd say bring some along and give it a shot. Even if you don't give out your whole stock, one good interaction is worth it at all.

AWM is cancelled this year, on AX's request

some of the related companies are threatening the japanese way (it would be very difficult to make this event) to pull out of AX, which is why they couldn't confirm many of the guests this year, also there are internal discussion regarding how much the CEO and organizers were paid in previous years (also some high ups don't understand the term "nonprofit" and how their 990s will be public), and how much money was spent in advertising this year

combine that with disagreements about the badge ticket scaling tiers and the target number of attendees, and AX management isn't having a good time right now

they're having a lot of emergency meetings over the next week especially in the next two days and I think some other people are going to be leaking information soon

all I know is that premiere attendees are going to regret spending half a grand for this AX at this rate

Its the usual stuff from any con, its just with badge mailing they didn't want to add to shipment cost so you have to pick it up onsite.
Pickup of this only took a few minutes last year for me.

Word on the street is that it's not happening because certain companies are reneging on their deals. The companies bringing AWM guests are also unhappy with SPJA, and how much their executive boards were paid in previous years (look up their salaries) as well as how they were treated year, as well as the lack of support regarding the lines at the Microsoft theater.

One of the original guests also had her ESTA denied due to criminal convictions, and must apply for a B-1 and go through the interview process. A few others did not want their real names revealed to the general public and there are concerns that SPJA staff would not be professional enough to maintain anonymity.

At this moment, it looks like the events are for sure cancelled, at least with the moniker AWM. There are talks regarding having other lives for the remaining guests, but they may cancel too.
