Wales Comic Con - They oversold tickets and continued to sell on the door tickets despite being sold out. Not enough staff to control the crowds and the owner got so stressed he had a heart attack and currently in hospital. Printers breaking and people waiting 2 hours for photos to be printed and some photos have apparently been deleted because of corrupted data. It's a massive clown fiesta.

A literal third of the size as summer, a handful of acts for the main stage, and a tiny bunch of stalls which were mostly packed with obvious bootlegs. How the fuck did that even happen?

Costs go up. Venue gets more expensive, insurance or whatever organisers attempt to downsize but unit costs still high for traders etc. Most people buy tat online now if at all. If it’s based in London you have china town to compete with and they sell bootlegs openly. It’s not cost effective to try and compete so they also just sell bootlegs at HJ too.

If you aren’t going for the culture/food/friends then the tat is less of a draw. But you could just as easily meet up with your friends “for free” so no need to go either.

Credit where it's due for Beth, she blew the whistle on a commissioner who was ripping off a lot of people.
She can be difficult to get on with but a lot of other people just let them get away with it for over a year and crept out of the woodwork when they thought they'd be able to get their money back with someone else fighting their corner.

That's shitty and all but it's ancient in terms of news and beating a dead horse. She took herself off the market as a commissioner two years ago at least and I don't believe she's competed with anything bought in that time either, let alone won anything with the rushed messes she does manage to make.
The last noteworthy thing she did was fall off a stage mid-performance and I found that hysterical.

I'm all for having a good ass kick of someone who really deserves it but she hasn't done anything worth talking about recently. It's like bringing up that EmoEmu girl who pretended to have cancer years ago. It's not adding anything to the conversation. Though I suppose I can't really blame anyone for having to dig up old things because the British Comm is well and truly dead at the moment.

So what's everyone's next con? What projects are people working on? Is anyone pulling together any Christmas themed cosplays for shoots?

HJ has consistently scared away good Japanese sellers since they're ridiculously disorganised so my guess is that they've finally ran out of sponsors and vendors to make the con decent. Maybe they'll fix it in time for summer but I'm not hopeful. Not to mention this year's Winter HJ lined up with a lot of different events such as Bham MCM, Lolita embassy in Spain etc.

My next con is hopefully going to be insomnia64, both me and my bf are quite curious about it. Is it any good? I'm skipping most of the MCM cons this year anyways and I can't be asked to go to cosxpo. If I don't end up going to insomnia64 then my next con will probably be colossalcon

I'm hoping that before June I can make a bowsette cosplay (the red hair dress version) hopefully people won't think I'm just following the bowsette hype trend. I'm also making a mermaid cosplay and a shy guy girl cosplay.

Can't be asked to get a Christmas cosplay, probably will get one for next year though

That's the thing I originally knew three people who joined that I thought would be so dedicated in staying (since I'm pretty sure they're part of AL) but then they all left because of how mistreated they were being. And now I have 4-5 friends who joined and is part of it....

Sad thing is that one of the maids wanted to be a maid for years and was applying for these other good maid cafes but she kept on getting rejected. So then she joined this one that was pretty shit and didn't do anything... She then left that one to join arcadia, I can't believe she would stoop down this low to be part of a maid cafe...

But anyways I'm still pretty curious on what the cafe is like so yeah I going to check it out just for fun.

Tokonatsu is well worth if you can deal with camping, very very comfy and social con. Hibanacon is great but it's not til November. There's Cosxpo in March but that's really only worthwhile if you're a diehard cosplayer or a tog, it doesn't really cater to people who go to cons for anime/gaming fandom.

I will be visiting England/Scotland in mid January, I'll be a while in London/Birmingham/Glasgow/Edinburgh each. Are there any specific shops/gardens/restaurants that I should definitely hit up while around? Specifically looking to avoid anything ultra-touristy, I've been on the sight-seeing circuit before and lived in Cambridge for a while before I was into lolita (I was broke then so shopping and eating out weren't on the table). I know January isn't a great time of year to be traveling Europe but that's when i'll be there so trying to make the most of it!

It's a shame because it's all done up now and looks really nice (I'm local and my boyfriend had a job interview there some time after the work was done) I kind of wish Cosxpo snapped it up because it would be dope for a photoshoot orientated con.
The surrounding areas and towns have also been undergoing a restoration too so it's just nicer to live in. They even have a place that does bubble tea and those bubble waffles that deliver! I really hope a con can give it another shot and maybe try to make panel rooms a little closer to each other.

It's alright, the ECG finals are definitely worth a watch and there are some cool panels in the new cosplay masterclass thing they started doing, and if you're into the esports scene there's a lot around that, but as the other anon said it's very, very crowded, the heat is a lot because everything is in one giant warehouse type place under the july sun, there's almost nowhere to go outside and take a breather except a tiny central courtyard that's instantly overcrowded and a bit of concrete between the main building and the building where the big scene is. It's far from any hotels, and once you're out you can't come back for the day. My grandma only lives about an hour of train from the con center so it's easy for me to go but I wouldn't travel from abroad and pay for a hotel. Unless you want to meet a specific guest, see a concert within the con or enter the ECG I'd save my money. I definitely like MCM London a lot better.

What conventions are people hitting up this year? I'm heading to Sunny NC, Toko and this cute little one on Cambridge I don't recallt he name of, been to it once a couple years back and it was delightfully well put together for its size.

Tempted to try Sunny Liverpool since it would be nice to see the differences since I've done Sunny since like 2013 plus I'd get to have a bit of a look around Liverpool but hard to justify visiting the same shit different venue.

Andre would always tell me I was like the son he'd never had (despite being a trans person and thus not a man) and it always made me a little uncomfortable. I left Arcadia when I realised I was wasting my time trying to work with someone who was oblivious to his own shortcomings and refused to improve his own cafe that he'd already sunk a fuckload of money into. I realised if I wanted to be doing maid shit seriously I'd be better off not just hanging around Arcadia for some 'epic whacky joke' because watching him flounder in his own incompetence was frankly too much to bear.

He'd buy alcohol for the maids who were mostly 17 at the time which always seemed a little sketchy (a man in his mid-thirties supplying alcohol to children is a little unbecoming, to say the least). One time I was really drunk after he'd bought us all drinks and I made the mistake of accepting a kiss on the lips from him, felt really disgusted afterwards and the second time he tried it I just 360 and walked away.

While he's not a child rapist he's creepy in the same way that Vic Mceggnog is, he's very touchy and likes kissing where it's not exactly appropriate. An example of this is where he bought alcohol for the maids and played a 'hickey circle' game with them. Thankfully I left the room before this happened but I'd seen pictures of where Andre had marked one of the maids.

Oh, and he threatened to show up at one of the maid's houses when he got really mad after he cancelled the next event because everyone was sick of his bullshit. If you're quick you might be able to see the screenshots that one of the maids posted of a recent argument where he generally acts like a bit of a manchild.

I think anyone is capable of changing, Andre just needs to stop getting frustrated when he does shit wrong and learn from his mistakes like someone who isn't a cum filled Cro-Magnon.

Kupocon is gaining traction and have an event in September. They have pretty good support in their artist alleys,but you'll need to sell at least a few Final Fantasy pieces.
Ame and Kita aren't running this year but they're the ones most people would recommend.
