It's weird how often I see people with great sewing or armor skills who make all their stuff and then cannot be assed to take a little time to make the wig not look awful. If the natural hair isn't how it's supposed to look, I understand that for sure.
But what if it fits perfectly?

Lots of times even if your hair is basically the same there's something about it that isn't quite stylized right, like thickness, volume, or texture. I can't tell you how many men i've seen that go "kirito has short black hair and I have short black hair so I don't need a wig!" when their hair actually looks nothing like it.

Pretty much what >>9963816 said but also your real hair tends to get sweaty and oily about half way through the day and loses volume and just looks bad. Not the case for everyone of course but it is the case for most. A wig will stay fluffy and keep its shape and texture better than natural hair and helps a cosplay look more thought-out and "finished".

Love Live cosplayers are guilty of this most of the time from what I've seen, but I hate it when characters have that piece of hair in the middle which usually ends between the brows. However they refuse to trim their wigs so those pieces will often reach the nose and obscure the face.

Pictures like those are usually prefaced with a comment of how it's a wig test but they rarely look different when it comes to wearing the actual costume aside from wearing the canon hair accessories.

This one's a bit weird, but

When a character has a fairly simple hairstyle but the cosplayer puts so much product in it that it looks incredibly stiff.
It's just nasty.

I mean yeah, that's what casual means, but I think as long as they aren't expecting to be recognized like a full blown all accurate cosplay, there's no harm in it. As someone who has dropped $400+ and hundreds of hours on projects and accuracy, I fully enjoy just goofing around with minimal effort for fun, too. I used to stress a ton about every single cosplay but ain't nobody got time for that when sometimes you just wanna be a little geeky.

It's how you'd attach bias tape to corners cleanly. Mitering creates the sharp diagonal line seen here when it's done properly. If you've never done it before it can be tricky but it's definitely a valuable skill to have.

The thing about wigs, most male cosplayers I have seen don't suit wigs at all. I dye my hair and style it for any cosplay I'm doing. It does look much better. Just look at any cosplayer doing Dante, Geralt, or anyone with crazy anime hair. To be fair I try to avoid those cosplays for the most part. Its very hit or miss with female cosplayers and weapon props in my experience. Of the ones I've seen on the con floor and as a cosplay show judge I see more female cosplayers with good to great props but then there's usually one guy who will have the best prop of all the ones I've seen.
