Is it ok to cosplay as a character if you don't have the correct body type? I want to do Zarya but I'm chubby.

>> No.9888634

Fat in a skin tight spandex suit is a bit different from fat in a suit of armor. Especially when one character is canonically on the heavy side and the other is a strung out punk rocker.

>> No.9889224

In general, you should cosplay as whoever you want regardless of body type. However, not everyone is gonna like it. And realistically you won't look as good/accurate as someone who's got the right body type for that character, and you might not get as much attention/photos at conventions. But if you just want to do it, and it's fun, and you don't mind, don't worry too much about what others think. You won't ever be able to please everyone anyway, so just make yourself happy even if it's not 100% accurate.

Depends on how chubby “chubby” is and how well you can make armor. Not only will your skill in the latter ultimately “matter” more than your body type, but a heavier-set, wider frame might work to your advantage when you’re covering most of the soft bits with plate and the character is wide anyways - my main concern would be arms, not gut.

Cosplay is a hobby meant to be fun before anything else, so I'd say go ahead and cosplay whoever you want, regardless of whether your body type matches theirs. While having a body type that matches the character you're cosplaying can make your cosplay look more "accurate" or more like that character has come to life, having the exact body type of certain characters is downright impossible, so I wouldn't get too hung up on the body type piece of cosplay. Trying to only cosplay characters that "match" your body type also limits how many characters you may allow yourself to cosplay or cause you to think you can't cosplay a favorite character, which just takes the fun out of it. If you're using a cosplay as a goal to get in shape, however, that could be good motivation to invest in your health!

Pic related as an example of a character's body type that is extremely difficult/near impossible to recreate irl on a human body.

This.

You can work out, have a perfect body for said character. But someone, somewhere will find something to nitpick or be a shitty person about.

It's not a problem with you. You are in charge of changing your body if that's what you want to do. But you can't change people's shitty attitudes. If someone has a problem with a random stranger in a costume, it says a lot more about them as a person than you.

I think the biggest thing is have some self awareness as to how your costume fits and how much of your body is showing.

Using Zarya as an example, many champion weight lifters have a spare tire around their gut and only look thinner because of a compression shirt. Shapewear can work wonders to help you achieve the shape you want for the character you want to do but if you have skinny arms it will never look good on you.

Beyond that, if the character is just showing bear skin, you won't look good if the character is fit and you got flab showing. Same concept goes for spandex. If your carrying more than a few extra pounds stick to fully clothed characters and it's not as big of a deal.

>> No.9894476

>>9888632
Zarya has a lot of lee-way since her armor can be bulky and she isn't wearing a very tight body suit. As long as you're not insanely fat you'll be fine.

I personally think people should cosplay as characters that have the same body type as they are, or it'll look ridiculous IMO. Then again, I'm a turbo purist/autist and I believe in it strongly to the point of working out nearly religiously, so take it with a grain of salt.

>splay as a character if you don't have the correct body type?

I honestly think it looks pretty crappy, unless you make it a point of the cosplay (like people who purposefully cosplay someone sexy while being fat as a joke).

But then, I feel many cosplayers tend to look crappy and cheap, and I tend to only like the cosplays that don't look like a bunch of otaku's playing dress up but actually look like it are daily clothes (with appropriate, non-cheap/costumy materials), with wigs that don't look like they costed 3 euro on aliexpress. Feel like many cosplayers are more busy with doing as much and cheap as possible to deliver quality. Find it sad and makes you look weird and tasteless.

But that's me and there have been proven to be tons who disagree and think you can't say cheap wigs, synthetic costums, and completely different bodytimes or other looks look bad because it's for fun and you might hurt feelings. Hobbies cost money and dedication.

But it's an inaccuracy that's very apparent.

The question should be asked is do YOU care about this issue? Would you feel uncomfortable cosplaying a character outside of your body type? If so, why? Is it because you are scared of what people might think about you? Is it because you are insecure about your body type?

Here's the deal: no one will care if you cosplay a character outside of your body type. If they do, they don't matter. Very few of these kinds of people actually go to cons, and even if they are there they likely won't confront you about your cosplay unless they are actually autistic. Ultimately they can be disregarded.

Also, if you are insecure about your body type, there are always things that you can do to improve yourself, if that's what you want. Either way, just do what you want.

>without drug abuse.
To be fair why though?
Var has very rare bad effects on woman. It's much worse for man and this is why they can't use it. Also it's very often given in pretty high doses for back pain and other bone problems(so many of us might have taken it already).
It's like a perfect muscle girl pill which man can't use, and you can overdose it only after months of usage. The overdose might lead only to getting too big but you see the progress everyday so it's nearly impossible do to unless you want it.
But never use any other steroids girls, you will get manly face and other weird shit.

So unable to spell, ugly, and fat.

At least it'll die early from its own (fat)actions.

It takes longer than you would think. I do classes at the gym at least two days a week. Eat fairly healthy and work out with a personal trainer 1-2 times a week. Oh and I almost forgot I walk a mile a day on top of all that.

I still haven’t lost the 4 inches I gained when I got pregnant. I still don’t have biceps. I’ve gained almost 10 pounds and haven’t lost anything. Losing weight is hard work.

I should also add that I had to be on an extreme diet because of a failed gallbladder due to pregnancy. I should have lost weight then.

Just exercising and dieting is not going to magically make you thin. It takes time. OP cosplay the character you want! It’s not worth it to wait until you are fit!

Fat cosplayers should be banned from cons, no-one wants to see that shit. It will also motivate them to diet and exercise to be able to cosplay.

>it it ok?
Yeah. Everything is okay. You set your own goals.

but
>does it mean my cosplay is going to look nice?
Probably not, because what you can't fill with the correct accurate body, you need to fill with five times the work on props and make up to look the part.

It's not rocket science though, you choose where to stop, you're doing this for yourself not for other people and if other people don't like your cosplay that's okay as long as you had fun. Don't expect everyone to like your cosplay, that's it, people have opinions and it's their right to have them, as is your right to cosplay whatever you want to do as long as it's not illegal in your country. (Don't turn up naked with a shotgun to a con, I mean.)

What you should never ever ever do is assume that everyone has to like you because "otherwise my feelings get hurt". Truth is, no stranger gives a shit really, in the most literal sense of the word, if you go to conventions and cannot enjoy yourself that's on you, not on others, unless they're directly molesting you.

I agree with other anons that it all depends on how you feel about it. I'm also plus size and I doubt myself a lot when it comes to my weight, but nine times out of ten when you're at a con no one is gonna say anything to your face about your size. I've cosplayed plus size characters and smaller characters and never had anyone be a dick to me in person. If it's something that you really want to do, then go for it. Cosplay at it's core is about having fun. If you're personally not comfortable, then start taking small steps towards losing weight. I'm in the same boat, and while I'm starting to work towards losing all the weight I gained, I'm gonna keep cosplaying while I do so because it's one of my favorite hobbies.

Also remember, 4chan is the gutter of the internet regardless of what board you're on, so the actual percentage of people making shitty comments here that you'll see at a con is extremely small.

I cosplayed a big titty character without having the goods myself and still got a lot of compliments. As long as you put effort into the costume. Do whatever. Some people probably will same some shit behind your back though.
