What should be the age limit to attend cons??

30?

>> No.9765645

I don’t see the point in having an age gap that cuts off at a certain age

But a younger age gap makes sense. I wish people under 16 wouldn’t go to cons. Especially young children.

But that would make the mommy cosplayers sad if you ban their bishie con goers.

>> No.9765649

An age limit is silly considering a majority of anime and manga is created by older people. There are older artists, vendors, business owners, and those involved in running conventions are often older people. It's also silly to claim there is an age limit on enjoying a hobby. I mean, are you suppose to just not enjoy anime and manga because you turned 30? Is it suppose to only be HBO shows and spreadsheets from that point onward? That's silly.

I do believe that people under a certain age should likely have a guardian present on the premises, but that only had to do with responsible parenting.

>> No.9765650

Cons would definitely be more fun without young teenagers

And I'm not saying that every con has to be like this, but having some cons that are 21+ would be nice. I've noticed that even 18-20 year olds act like whiny, dramatic, overgrown children a lot of the time, but 21+ people are usually over that shit. Plus openly being able to drink would be fun.

>> No.9765655

An age limit is a good way to make sure your convention has as little quality content as possible

Most good cosplayers, good panel runners, and quality artists are in their mid 20s or older. Take that away and you are left with a bunch of cringe bad cosplays and Tumblr roleplay panels

This x1000

OP has also clearly never been to cons slanted toward older congoers like Dragoncon and Colossalcon. Older-leaning cons are often way better than ones populated by screaming kiddlets who can't run good programming or have a fun time.

Is OP implying no one over 30 should be allowed to attend? Sure, get rid of the demo with the most expendable income, that'll work well.

A con without all those annoying little kids running around just a bunch of 30+ people having fun and geeking out over our fandom and knowing how to behave.

Yes, yes people having fun at a convention is soooooo annoying. Like lmao, we're supposed to talk about cosplay and brando while acting like we're at a funeral. How repulsive to think otherwise.

agreed with this. there is a middle ground between "chuck e cheese" and "podiatrist seminar" and it is full of adults who just want to tie one on and nerd out for a weekend. I'm all for some 21+ cons. maybe my bro would finally find a new girl. I think it's been a year or ten for him.

I know you're probably trolling, but once you get out of uni and start your adult life you get to be 30 faster than you think.

>I do believe that people under a certain age should likely have a guardian present on the premises, but that only had to do with responsible parenting.

They are supposed to, but once the parents get them their badge and "rules" they set them free and run around like little brats while mommy or daddy or both sip on wine at whatever bar is close.

And most staff won't do much if anything about it... But if something happens to their kid, The parents blame the con saying "WHY WERENT YOU MAKING SURE MY CHILD WAS OKAY?!"

I think one thing a con could do is give certain colour badges, or arm-bands for people who are 18+ and set a curfew... If anyone seen without those colours or armbands will be dealt with (Like asking about parents, etc) and making them go... Idk. Theres no real way to impose an age limit at a con without being lame.

And setting a limit to attend cons? 30? It's the older crowd (Generally) that are better acting at cons, and there is nothing wrong with being 30+ and going to cons or cosplaying.

>> No.9766867

>>9766862
I swear some cons used to color-code the badges if you're under 18 but I don't see it much anymore. Am I in the wrong region for that or did cons stop doing it?

They still do it but usually underage people will bug their parents or siblings to borrow their badges if they want to go out or go to an 18+ panel

And some cons are aware of this and check IDs now... That won't stop people form using fake IDs, but the cons I frequent check badges and IDs for anything 18+ or 21+
