Does anyone have any recommendations for places to get some good base dresses? My local thrift stores are pretty terrible.

Oh, hey. I was just thinking about mori girl the other day, even though now it's not trendy anymore. I've decided to only buy second hand from now on and this is the style I can better pull off and wear without negative criticism.

It's a shame the fashion kind of died, but my love for it is seasonal so I guess I'm no help lol. I find myself wanting to indulge in mori things when it's fall, moreso than any other season. Must be the colors and how autumn is very focused on nature and the way it changes just before snow and Christmas take the spotlight. Winter is pretty mori too, with greys, blues, and whites instead of browns, creams, and yellows. Layering in spring in summer is pretty hard, after all...

>> No.9587819

>>9587447
Agreed. I find it much easier to wear it in Autumn and Winter. A lot of my mori wardrobe is wool and I just can't wear it in the humid summer months. It is so hard to find breathable layering pieces in stores during summer- everything is cheap polyester that feels and looks like plastic.

>> No.9588344

Why is this fashion even a thing or popular among gulls? It's usually so frumpy and drab, it seems like its meant more the 50+ matronly crowd than young adults, only a few coords in Mori ever look good or actually fashionable like something like this >>9587447 but they seem to be few and far between and its like, the more layers you try to add on the worse it looks?

I guess I feel this way cause for me fashion is primarily trying to make myself appeal to guys/look sexy and cute and I don't see the point in any style for women that ISN'T trying to achieve that. Like why even call it a fashion then and not just comfort clothes? -shrug-

"dark mori" was never much of a thing in Japan (pic related is a punk outfit), but you can get that look with deconstructed jpunk/lolita items from brands like h.naoto, or get a more femine look in dark colors by looking at brands that happen to make mori looking things, but we're never mori "brands" like axes femme. or you could just hit up a thrif store

I've been very influenced by mori but can't wear the layers it tends to promote (I live in the tropics). I practice a strict palette when it comes to my clothes and honestly I think a lot of stuff can embody the look without having too many layers if you choose certain colors. Just saying this in case people want to experiment with the look without having to buy stuff from certain stores.

--

Example:

I wear olive green, off white cream, and then either tan colored pants (uhh forget what they're called right now.. it's not exactly khakis?) or somewhat faded jeans Then I wear either my black or brown pleather boots. Vintage brass jewelry or an old key necklace can help give you the look.

I really recommend olive, it is trendy rn I think (easy-to-find) and very versatile (goes with both brown and black), unlike browns which I find hard to wear sometimes.

Pic gives you idea of palette I mean.

FYI, bumping with "bump" and no contribution is typically frowned upon on /cgl/ because of the relative ease in boing threads here with something relevant. At least Google a couple of pics you like or ask a question next time

Mori isn't as popular as lolita unfortunately. Too much effort to make a good outfit, and you can't just go out and buy everything you need in one place and be done with it.

Mori is more of a lifestyle, IMO. Mori isn't about acquiring shit endlessly like lolita.

Slowpoke anon is slowpoke but I'm back.
These are my favorite underdresses. Really worth the money imo. I think they're replicas of a japanese brand because they have labels in japanese. The label also has a logo that reads "cawaii".

(Also I didn't buy them from these sellers exactly, but they appear to be the same dress)

Adding:
Aliexpress is great for mori, just look for mori, mori girl, mori kei and you'll get a bunch of results. There are also entire stores dedicated to mori. Compare prices because some have the same product for half the money.
Say Buy Discount Store
Johnnature
KINGWISH Store
Moristyle Store
Just some stores of the top of my head on Ali.

Okay serious question for those of you who actively wear Mori: do you think I could wear it while also having a capsule wardrobe of 20 pieces or less? I know layering is very important but I think all the pieces could work together well which would be conducive to the capsule wardrobe? Please let me hear your thoughts!

Wow that's hideous and doesn't look a thing like mori. Why the bright colors and tacky pattern?

As someone who pretty strictly lived the normie capsule wardrobe life for years before admitting that normie clothes were too boring for me, I have some thoughts:

1) I love layering, and I've tried the 20 piece capsule on layering heavy styles and its... not great. Workable, sure but if you like fashion and options and it can be a pain. 25-30 is usually much better

2) if you wanted to try a 20 piece mori wardrobe, I would definitely reccomend it though! Capsuling is a great way to experiment with Jfashion styles, and since Jfashion is very second hand friendly it can be surprisingly low consumption even if you don't like it in the end.

A 20 piece mori capsule might look like:
2 shoes
2 coats
3 outerwear
4 blouses/tops
4 base dresses
4 under dresses
1 skirt

Plus a purse and accessories.

Thanks! Looks good. If I'm understanding right, I'm supposed to wear a base dress and a cardigan on top of the under dress?

Just wondering, these aren't taobao resellers?

Hmm you don't need to wear a cardigan if it's too hot for it but try hiding you shoulders. The important thing is to keep a baggy-ish long A-Line shape. Layer up and keep it comfy. So: Underdress + Dress + Lace Top/ Lace cardigan + accessories is what I would wear now when it's hot.
Pic related is very illustrative.
I'm sure they're taobao resellers but you'd have to ask about stores to someone else because I only order piece by piece to avoid customs tax.

Does anyone know any western retailers who sell mori appropriate leather boots? I can't order from Asia retailers because I've got hobbit feet (9.5 Wd) and all my local stores literally only carry uggs or ankle high heel boots.

Have a mori boy as payment.

Do you have thrift shops near you anon? I don't know of any particular stores with leather boots because it's something I've always found in local stores offbrand. I'd also check medieval faires/renaissance faires because there are some leatherworkers who make great unusual shoes for mori.

Anyway Fluevog makes some suitable models, however they're suuuuper expensive.

I like my steve madden troopa boots. they come in a lot of colors too!
My dolce vita boots have also lasted a long time, but you have to look on ebay for that brand because the stuff they have on their site rn isn't mori.

Does anyone know where I can stock up on legwear? I'm especially after warm stuff for the coming weather. I've tried looking in the shops locally but to no avail. I have seen some cute printed tights online but they're a bit out of my price range for just throwing on every day.

Sock dreams or aliexpress/taobao depending on your size and budget

>> No.9627011

Yeah I've tried thrift shops, but I rarely find any shoes there above a size 6, sadly. I'll have to ask around and see if there's any little boutiques hiding around that I've missed.

Sock Dreams is great, they have sales frequently too. I can also reccomend Aliexpress if you're up to 165cm tall, if you're taller than that tights aren't going to go up to your butt.
