What's your stance on using non-gothic main pieces in gothic coords? Are there certain indicators when a piece can be used for a gothic coord or crossover despite it's rather sweet or classic features and when it will most likely not work ? I'm just starting out and struggling with this question a lot.

>What's your stance on using non-gothic main pieces in gothic coords?

Personally I think it's fine. "Gothic" is an overall feel/aesthetic. For example, this coord >>9553624 features an AP OP but mimics Victorian mourning attire. As another example, the pieces in this coord >>9553567 in any other colorway would be obviously sweet. But in black with a rosary and old school styling, it passes for gothic to me.

>top-tier gothic hair colours
black, light blonde, shades of grey
>mid-tier gothic hair colours
natural redhead, very dark brown, white
>low-tier gothic hair colours
burgundy, medium brown, dark blue or red in moderation (e.g. streaks)
>shit-tier gothic hair colours
light brown, dark blonde, yellow blonde, other unnatural colours (yeah, I know I'm in the minority in the alt scene for not liking unnatural hair)

Much easier to get away with brown tones or even warm blondes if the coord is otherwise very Victorianesque or on the more classic end, since it fits the period.

Hie, mates!
There's op I've got yesterday and I confused a little bit. How should I wear it? It has those frills on skirt that make me look pregnant with petti. But without petti it's looking strange too (how can lolita be without petti omfg). May be try it with corset and underskirt?
I'm newb to gothic, I wear mostly classic lolita.

>> No.9557148

>>9557147
Maybe try a bumroll/hiproll and light slip instead of a full petticoat?

I've seen some basque cut vintage dresses use that to avoid too much front-fluff, and it might suit the quasi-historical cut of that dress.

Of course, google is now failing me as I try to find you examples. It's just showing me photos of the hiprolls themselves.

I would have suggested an underskirt long enough to match this OP's skirt length, and an A-line (not cupcake) petti of the same length. Similar to the dress on the furthest right in this pic.

An A-line petti will start the poof further down, while a cupcake begins poofing around the waist, so you're less likely to look pregnant with an A-line. Both the petti and the underskirt combined should fill out the skirt and lift it so it doesn't make this funny scrunched up shape. That should help it look more lolita.

Thank you! I tried the one a-line petti that I have and it wasn't working. May be it was too much puffy. Well, gonna find/make another one and try again.

Yep, the skirt starts right under bust here. That's why I tought about using corset to make normal waist line then I can use my standart petti I hope.

>> No.9557188

>>9557166

Try putting the petticoat lower towards your hips, and smooth out the top of the skirt so it's frilly at the bottom, not the top. (Or you might undo the drawstrings and flatten out the skirt first, then re-tie them).

The dress doesn't look underbust to me. High waisted yes, but if it's actually hitting your underbust you might just be too tall for it. Older lolita stuff tended to be made for 155cm tall Japanese girls (that's their average height apparently).

why is it so easy to find pictures of atelier boz clothing that the shopstaff took in store but difficult to find pictures of people wearing them in coordinates, fml

>>9557147
Gothic lolita often meanders over the border into elegant/ aristocratic general goth fashion, so I wouldn't be surprised if this dress was designed to not be worn with a petti. Personally I would undo the gathering and bring the skirt back down and just not wear one. Either that or wear another skirt under it. I also think it's look nice with a corset like an excentrique corset vest.
