There's some generic trees, some fancy-ish walls with metal grating, a ditch with tall reeds and grasses, a somewhat run down patio, a couple of open grass fields, and lots and lots of concrete parking lot. The nicer glass building behind the main TCC building also has a little garden area but it's going to be all occupied by the Conservative party convention. Other than that there is plenty of low-rise shabby industrial suburban decay to choose from. One of the more popular locations for shoots is the empty covered parking at one of the hotels, I forget which one. A 20 minute walk to the southeast there's a school with a sports track. A 15 minute bus ride to the east there's a big pond in a park.

Closest sakura would be centennial park, then high park, then kariya park. You'd need a car/taxi get to any of them in reasonable time. But most of the trees are blooming this week so they'll be gone by AN. If you're lucky You might catch some late fenguzo blooms. Centennial has some greenhouses with exotic plants. Essentially you would need your own wheels to reach anywhere good or you'll spend half the day walking or on buses. Most of the iconic sights are in and around downtown.

Photoshoots aren't that great imo. The people who constantly get the spotlight are either super obnoxious or know the shoot organizer, especially if it's a popular series/character with low-effort cosplays. Photoshoots generally work by someone calling out prompts and then all the cosplayers fitting that prompt go up to the front. E.g. All Madokas or all Neptune/Uranus ships or all season 2 outfits.
If you're doing a rare character or an outfit you'll get your few seconds of fame. Shoots can be fun and you can get cute photos out of it but nice pictures with you dead center really aren't the point. React quickly when you're relevant and you'll be fine, but don't try to shove yourself into every shot.

Which shoot are you thinking of attending specifically? I generally just lurk around and pop in for a picture or two. If it's fun, I stick around longer but if it's full of cringy teenagers I dip the fuck out. Last year I remember at the Fire Emblem shoot the organizer really didn't know anything except Fates and Awakening so all the older series got shoved to the side and this one really annoying girl (idk the character) would run into every shot with male characters screaming I SHIP IT because.. apparently that was canon. Don't be that girl.

The public group photoshoots tend to be a bit clusterfucky depending on the size and the person hosting it. Generally they do a couple of big shots with everyone at once, then go through smaller groups like character duplicates, pairings/teammates, heros vs villains, meme poses, etc. While you're off stage is a good time to find people you would want to post together with, or photogs might ask you to step to the side to do some solo poses. I don't find the big group poses usually make very good looking pictures so I try to zoom in on one or two people at a time and quickly work my way over the crowd.

This is pretty misleading, it takes two weeks to start to lose specialized muscles if you're not actively training anymore. Everyday use is still use that keeps the muscles up to some extent, so you can't apply the same timeframe as complete immobilization after a surgery or something.

also uh at meetups we kind of just chill for a while in front of the pool area/go to the doubletree bar for an hour or so (maybe buy a drink there?). some people exchange contact numbers, then we break up into smaller groups if you made friends, some of us go grab a quick bite, and eventually we head to a room party. it's basically assumed that the room party is a byob event (don't be that person who leeches off of other peoples drinks you know?). room parties don't really start til after 10pm tho, but you can chill with us for the first bit? most people might not be drinking before the room parties though.

There are various photoshoots at different times of the day for the next 3 days. Let's say you like Kancolle and you check out the KC photoshoot. If you have fun there and you're on the same spectrum as they are, then many will gladly give you their FB or Twitter ID to stay connected with each other. Same goes with various panels you're interested in. Either before or after the panel, you can somehow connect with those you think are great or whatever. At least for me, that kind of worked.

This year is probably the worst in terms of the least amount of seiyuus/artists showing up at the con. I've never seen such a drop in "Famous Japanese people" visiting AN in my 4 years attending the con.

I'm working for the Doll North section and I have to say the higher ups of that section are super nice. Can't say much for any other sections of the con.

aaa I'm so excited. I don't think I'm bad socially since I used to be a social butterfly in middle school before moving. Sorry for blog post but I'm excited to go out and hang out with people who have the same interests. I'm just scared of clg trips looking down on me because it's my first time.

what are the chances of rare figures appearing at the vendors? this will be my first time attending and I've heard that the figs are usually overpriced so it's a "scam", but the figure has been out of stock online for over a year.

I don't plan shit, I just buy my pass and plug in my Amp. Convention staff the last few times I've come with my electric + amp have been absurdly kind and courteous and let me play when and where I want, as long as it's not by the main entrance.

But desu most vendors either sell over priced prize figures, over priced knock offs or left over stock common figures that came out in the past two Chances of finding something rare is pretty slim and as a collector I don't even bother searching the dealers room anymore.

I staff and use to volunteer. Was mostly doing it for the free pass and hotel and then got wrangled to do more and more things. It's really not worth the amount of work I do for months for what we get. I use to be able to do a few thing leading up to the con and now Im pulling in part-time to full-time work weekly.

I think it'll be my final year as a staff. The con never improves.

I'm a big fan of Kancolle, how was the programming/photoshoot last year?

Photoshoot was great. Lots of variety, <3 heavy cruisers, good riggings, qt abyssals, admiral got tackled by Kongou. Some of the setups were a bit awkward because there were so many people and the space wasn't that big. I don't remember exactly what happened at the panel but I have a vague feeling it was fun.

I used to be on staff. It's a mixed bag with staff. Usually they're nice to you but you get some people on power trips. Some examples of both:

>recommended by friend to join staff
>show up to my first general meeting ever
>sign in book is only for staff
>not sure if I'm allowed to walk into the room without my friend; friend hasn't shown up yet
>ask a staff member standing near sign in if I can go in
>before I can even finish, she says that the meeting is only for staff
