It's kind of lame, but I'm going to be doing umbreon for myself, eevee for my child. I have some pieces from my first attempt at umbreon, which was pretty lackluster but had decent furry bits, which I'm going to cannibalize and improve. I was going to use some old pajamas to make the ears/tail for eevee, but the faux fur was damaged in the wash, so I'm looking for other fabric. The light bits are a sherpa-type, so I'm trying to find the perfect fabric with a similar texture for the brown bits.

Hopefully it's okay. I don't want to wind up in the bad cosplay thread, but I also don't want to put a ton of time and money into these costumes.

Did anyone else go to the PokeGo event at Little Tokyo on Sunday?

I'm torn between wanting to make a costume based on my own Pokemon GO Trainer now, or waiting until Niantic starts adding even more Trainer Customization options (since they have once now already, and I know people are desperate for more. New hairstyles, more clothes, bags and shoes...)

I'd just hate to put the time and effort into making the costume and end up having a totally different-looking Trainer a month or two later

I really wish I knew how to sew. I've always wanted to do a gym leader Erika costume- all of her designs are so sweet and they warm my bitter, gen-oner heart.

The pink/pink I think is supposed to be a jumpsuit as they've removed the rib texture at the bottom of the jumper. It's one piece with a Tshirt under it.
Then the rest are playsuit under a cropped jacket.

Like use interfacing or something so the skirt and poncho/shell don't sit on you limply. Maybe add some sort of boning in the white part of the poncho to make it hold the shape that's in the drawing?

No worries, I got advice from a friend who is a seamstress. She notes that although the designs are pretty, some of the aspects of the designs aren't possible/realistic. She also mentioned adding tulle or even stuffing the shell to give it some shape.

As well, I plan to make the crinoline out of aluminum strips, similar to those use for cookie cutting, and attach the pieces through small rivets and some scotch weld. This will add to the 'poof' to the back.
To prevent the skirt from shifting forward, I will be attaching either a pillow or a piece of worbla to the butt area so it will sit comfortably.

I might crossplay Hilda (BW) for a con in October. I have a larger head, so for the wig should I get a Jeannie from Arda or the ponytail wig from EpicCosplay? I'm using the Epic one for a Charizard gijinka cosplay and it's very nice, but it also looks a bit small on my head (I had to shave down my hairline at the back and sides so that the wig conceals my hair properly).

Also, you can always color your hair along your hairline to match better with the color of your wig. Ben Nye sells some temp hair color that's pretty good. I used the silver/white on my husband's black hair and beard and it came out looking pretty good(especially on the beard). It should look pretty good if you're just doing the bits around your hair line and nape of your neck.

Well they're not full on dyes. They're just brush on hair coloring. They're like nicer quality version of the spray stuff. They work great for short hair and beards, I wouldn't recommend them for longer hair though.

If they get on your ass about it, just throw out the whole "cosplaying Japanese kids all the time while being white so who's the racist one now bitch" card. A kimono would actually be a good way to learn. Most traditional Japanese clothes are mostly made up of relatively simple rectangles and right angles, and patterns won't be hard to find.

What kind of pokemon are you looking to cosplay, anon? I think designing the gijinka is half the fun of pokemon cosplay. A good rule of thumb for starting a design is picking a pokemon & picking a style theme, e.x. a blastoise and a military soldier, or an Articuno and a prince, etc. It's a good way to start coming up with coherent gijinka

I like a lot of steel-types, so Aggron, Steelix, Skarmory, Aegislash...and then just some random pokemon like Nidoking, Tyranitar, Exploud, or Xatu. A lot of things that would work well as knightly or 'armor'-like gijinka.

I've seen some neat designs of the Honedge family that would work fine for a dude, so there's that. Some of the Tyranitar gijinka I've seen are pretty cool in concept despite being deviantart monstrosities, which I could probably work with to produce something reasonable.

Seems like pic related would be pretty easy to adapt to a male gijinka...wear hakama instead of the skirt and replacing the waist stuff with just a men's obi. Poor Xatu is so underrated.

Xatu would be cool! Xatu as a species is pretty spiritually designed, so basing it off of a Japanese monk style would match pretty well. If you wanted to add to that particular design, they have cool hats which could match the beak color, large sleeves for the wings,etc. So if you're better with fabric than you are with armor (looking @ you, steel types) that's definitely an option.

Another issue in designing: if you want to be recognizable on sight at a con, you'll want the gijinka-to-pokemon ratio to be fairly one-to-one, and get less creative on what you put where in the design. Just something to think about.

Yaya is 5 foot at best and makes patterns for her height.

Expect to add a LOT of length to the roamper. I used her other bodysuit pattern and had to add 2.5cm to the waist and then 1.5cm in the seat.
It was still much too short for me and I'm only 5'4.
So I guess add an inch for every inch you are over 5"

I started Lillie after the reveal of the UB-01 since I think we're going to get some top quality lore in with her. Bought a wig which is en route an started on the bag.

To be completely honest, how can anyone think this looks promising? The hoodie is the wrong color, looks inaccurate, the jacket doesn't fit well and it lacks of details. The zapdos looks rushed and messy.
