I don't get it either. I mean I knew from the very first preview I was absolutely not going to get this dress (too religious for me, same reason I avoid a good chunk of Moitie prints), but from the chatter I thought for sure everyone would be fighting tooth and nail to be getting this release.

What happened? Does it look too much like Celestial, so the only colourways that sold out were the pastels?

It just doesn't really look good. The print doesn't have that AP-spirit so to say. When I saw it on my dash I didn't even recognize it as AP.
Also, it's really religious. Most can live with crosses, they are pretty common in fashion, but all this? I wouldn't feel comfortable as well.

I assumed it would be a horrible bloodbath, especially navy, because it's pretty much a fusion of celestial and milky cross which were quite popular.
It's not even more religous than milky cross or celestial, there are crosses, doves, horses (for whatever reason) and an angel. Pretty much the same as the other two.

Akira gets called chinaman by japanese girls? Kek. Why is that?
But wow this nasally voiced idiot is tacky af. No money to help his own parents and he begs like a lil bitch on gofundme but yet he goes to QPot frequently and buy new releases AND goes to the AP tea party? I'm the anon you're actually responding to, not sure why >>8899599 answered, but anyway here's my view:

If you really want to meet the guests, and you're a panel person, it will be fine. Even the tea party will be fine. The fashion show will be okay so long as you get a good seat in the back that's not in front of pillars.
But here's a few tips:
1. Bring your own food. Hotel and local food is a misc. expense that adds up quickly, and there are hardly any cheap options within a reasonable walking distance. Many people who secured themselves a room on the VIP floor received free food, as well as leftover food from the tea party. People with special passes get complimentary meals at the hotel as well.
2. If there's a rare or desirable item in the vendor room that you want, don't bank on getting it unless you know a prem/del member who will buy it on your behalf. They get access to any and all sales rooms before anyone else for a good solid hour, if not more.
3. The convention is tiring. It's a lot of waking up early, rushing to get ready, standing for long hours, and walking. Not including travel times. The convenience of the passes is that they bypass the part where you're on your feet, lining up for an event, for hours prior. Wear comfortable shoes if you plan on committing to the peasant pass.
4. If you're meeting the guests non-exclusively, that's a great experience but don't be disappointed if they're tired or not so energetic. They go the whole day meeting people, plus the special pass members who get access to them.
5. Peasant pass people don't get anything special except their con badge and booklet. Don't feel bad when special passes get their totes, goodie bags, and complimentary tickets.
6. You will have to pay extra for workshops and obviously any extra events barring the fashion show. Bring extra money (which ironically, if you attended many might actually total out to the worth of a deluxe pass...).

Seeing as I haven't had much luck on the Boystyle thread, and askign here instead was suggested, does anyone know the waist size of this season's regular length Roland jackets (in black) for the ladies size? I'm somewhat in-between sizes, and I know that in the past they've been very small (around the 65cm mark), but was wondering if they've gotten any bigger in the waist recently. The mens size is a bit on the big side for me, however. I've got the long version from this year, but that runs a little bit smaller than the regular version for some reason, and that's about as much on the bit too loose for me side of things for my liking. My bust is 82cm (so well within the ladies size bust measurement), but my waist is 68-69cm at the moment. I have a velveteen regular Roland, but like my two long length ones, the current 'standard' one runs a bit bigger. Does anyone know if I'd have any chance of fitting the ladies size?

Hmm... it's a tricky one. It depends on how long your body is. I often have to go for the L myself (I'm 5'6) for that extra couple of cm of extra torso length, as I have a very long torso. That said, I do have older size M pieces which only came in the one size, that had slightly less well defined waists. It entirely depends on you, your proportions, and whether there is much difference in the measurements between the M and L for that specific dress. Worst thing's worst, you'll have the waist ties form a slightly high waist. I suppose it matters less if it's a sack dress. Sorry I can't say more, never having bought a onepiece/sack dres from IW before. If you feel there's not much in it, go for it, and see. If it's too small, try and trade it for the L, or sell it on and continue searching. Good luck!

I think the problem with convention tea parties is that you need to either get it catered, or you are bound by contract to use the convention center or hotel for food purposes/cannot bring in outside catering. On top of that, I'm just guessing that a lot of anime convention tea parties drop the ball on finding a decent caterer cause they just don't know wtf they're doing or have monetary constraints (not necessarily budget limits per se but they may think people won't want to pay like $40-50?). For the rufflecon complaints I heard that there just wasn't much food. For other tea parties I've just heard the food was crappy or it wasn't like, the usual fare you'd find at a regular afternoon tea at a nice restaurant or hotel. On top of that, there's all the dishware, china, decorations, etc. I'm sure that may get costly for conventions too and they may choose to limit costs on that kind of stuff for such a small, limited event.

Wow, really? That's fucking stupid then. If they wanted to give the VIP people food, then they should've purchased extra food just for them.

Well, I guess that makes me feel better about my decision to not do the tea party then. If it's good this year then I'll just go to it next year.

Cons typically loose money when hosting a tea party. The contract states they HAVE to use the hotel for food. (otherwise subjected to penalty charges) Super pricey and sometimes they even forget to serve you tea. If a con wanted a tea party catered themselves, they'd have to host it off property and then what would be the point in that?

I actually think this is a great idea as long as it's within a reasonable walking or shuttle distance. There's nothing wrong with wanting con goers to get a little bang for their buck if what you're saying about organizers being captive to hotel catering is true.

I'd rather pay $20 for a cab ride and $30-40 for a high tea service than pay equally that much for hotel catering and receive poor service and underwhelming food.

Yeah, I think if it was nearby I wouldn't mind on off-site place...preferably something within walking distance or the con got shuttle service to bring us to and from, I def wouldn't mind paying $50 for that. The only problem with that though is not all conventions are going to conveniently have decent places for a tea party located nearby. Some convention centers may be in or located within walking distance to an upscale hotel that does a nice tea, while I know of others that are so isolated and there's not much around or no good places near.

At the end of the day I guess it comes down to time and money though; if you're a lolita convention or a convention that strongly caters to lolitas (like what AM tried to do) then it's probably important to put money into an event like that, but I feel like most anime conventions don't want to put too many resources into such a small event.

Maybe it is worth messaging one of the organizers so they know to make sure this doesn't happen this year? I can only assume they will try to avoid the stuff that went wrong with last year's tea.

>> No.8900462

I personally know someone who didn't book VIP room but went up there last year with a non-VIP room and a regular ticket. If there is a rule set then it'll be interesting to see if she's given special treatment.

Samefagging here, another dumb rule: people with special tickets did wind up not going to the convention last year. So many people, who had the money and who contacted the ticket holders for their permission, tried to see if they could pay to have the special tickets transferred to them. For whatever reason, con organizers didn't let this happen and cited "security" reasons. So there were literally passes that were left to waste.

Actually, I read this together with >>8900094 talking about being forced to use hotel food for the tea party and assumed the tea party was being catered to by the hotel kitchen, who then cooked the same dishes for the vip lounge/club room (or maybe the kitchen staff really did cook it in one go and then split it up into two portions.

At least, that's a completely logical and fair explanation -- the tea party food ran out because the organisers only paid for x amount of food to be catered, and the hotel kitchen decided to save labour by cooking one big batch instead of two smaller batches of different food. Note that the club room is not there just specially for the con, it is there year round, you can book a room that gives you access to it anytime, you just have to pay extra for it. So any non-con guests you see eating there are perfectly normal, it's what happens in the club room even without Rufflecon.

So long as the portion that was served to the VIP lounge didn't get billed to the con organisers I don't see anything wrong with serving the same food in both places, honestly. Now, if the organisers paid for x amount of food and received less, that's something to get worked up over. Probably a better topic to bring up to the organisers is to simply request for more food.

As a note on this, you can get into the club room by paying a fee, even if you don't have VIP room (though I'm not clear if you need to come in with someone else who does have a VIP room). The fee itself is pretty pricey, especially considering what's inside is just some snacks, but if the girl wants to hang with her friends there for one day out of four, then I can see how it works out cheaper for her to pay the fee once than to book VIP rooms for all four days.

I overheard one of the organizers admit the kitchen staff straight up sent the extra food to VIP. Regardless, it's all speculation.

The people I talked to didn't pay fees. They were let in by friends specifically. They brought back snacks and cans of soda. Some even volunteered to bring down food for other non VIP people so it would be harder for enforcers to catch onto.

>> No.8900578

>>8900556

Yeah, but the con can't really use "you sent our leftovers to your VIP lounge" as a complaint to the hotel. The VIP lounges are supposed to have food in them. The hotel can choose what food to serve at the lounge. If anything, VIP guests should be ones lodging a complaint about that -- "I know you served us leftovers from yesterday, how dare you serve us stale food".

The con, though? If they paid for x amount of food and received exactly x amount, they can't be greedy and demand all the extra food the kitchen cooked. And if there's leftovers and the con aren't demanding doggie bags to bring home all the extra food, then they have no real reason to complain what the hotel chooses to do with the leftovers.

Again, if the con received less than what they paid for, then that's a valid cause for complaint. If the hotel oversupplied and then took the extra food that the con didn't pay for and served it to the VIP lounge, though, I don't see how congoers are the ones paying for the food if it's in excess of what the con organisers paid for?

>>8900557

It's pretty much like trying to ghost a con. If the enforcers aren't checking and everyone manages to get in, good for them. If they were checking then you don't get to go in. Regardless, your ticket price isn't paying for the VIP lounge either, it's open the whole year and it has food the whole year round.

>> No.8900606

>>8900578
VIP wouldn't complain, a single meal in that area can cost over $15 so I doubt free food would be an issue. The hotel sandwiches were good even if they were a couple hours old, nothing wrong with them to file a real complaint I'm sure.

But I would be pissed if I paid for high tea at $50 and only received five small sandwiches, and tea and scones that I would have to fight over with other goers at my table. I've received a larger amount of suitable food for high tea events after paying only $30. VIP or not that is wrong.
I think the menu issue is one that could be resolved if organizers stated the menu as well as the quantity alotted per person, so at least someone can know what they're getting before they commit to buy.
Had I known I would get a single plate of five small sandwiches, with no seconds, and would have to fight for scones and tea at my table I would have reconsidered my $50 purchase.

>if enforcers don't check then it's ethically okay for this to pass
No it isn't. That's cheating the system and unfair to other con goers.

>> No.8900616

>>8900578
It wasn't about the enforcers checking. Con organizers themselves let their non VIP friends in while making statements that non VIP were not allowed access to the lounges. The con organizers who should be held with the highest regard to integrity didn't make those people pay fees for the lounge access. Why are you defending that level of corruption? If this happened at any other con where the base ticket price was $80 people would question what their money was actually paying for.

My issue is that if the hotel took the "extra" tea party food up there, then they were giving something meant for the con to people who weren't affiliated with the con since anyone on that floor has access to it i.e. the hotel was dicking over the con.

>>8900498
I know they didn't allow people to sell or transfer their tickets last year, but when I bought my ticket this year I noticed it said there were no refunds but tickets could be transferred. So hopefully no wasted passes this year.

>then they were giving something meant for the con to people who weren't affiliated with the con since anyone on that floor has access to it i.e. the hotel was dicking over the con

Maybe. But I don't think there's really a way to confirm what percentage of non-con people were actually in the lounge. I didn't hear reports of strangers taking that food, nor did any of my VIP friends mention seeing many outsiders.

Might be different this year however, as there's reports that the floors have been booked already by other groups.

>> No.8900653

Is there any real advantage to booking the VIP floor rooms? Did anyone here get them last year? I got the Deluxe or whatever package (the $200 not the $400) so I'm getting free breakfast. Last year we went out for dinners so I don't think I'll care about free snacks.

>> No.8900655

>>8900606

Anon. That is why I said you need to tell the organisers that you want more food.

Right now you're basically complaining that you should get more food on the basis that the VIP lounge exists. But the VIP lounge has always existed, with or without rufflecon. What are you really arguing? That the VIP lounge needs to close down and not serve food because you were only served five small sandwiches? Are you really expecting that a regular part of the hotel that has nothing to do with rufflecon shuts down just because you didn't get enough scones?

Just straight up tell the organisers that there wasn't enough food. Tell them you expect more than five small sandwiches and you expect two pots of tea per person so you don't have to fight for them. Or something. Don't cloud the issue with the VIP lounge, they'll spend so much time trying to explain to you that rufflecon doesn't run the VIP lounge, they won't be bothered to figure out how to get more food for you. I'm really helping you by trying to explain that these are seperate issues, so when you bring up the matter with the con organisers, you'll have a much clearer case for complaint than misconceptions and wild speculation.

>> No.8900663

>>8900616

The thing is, the VIP lounge isn't related to rufflecon at all. Heck, it's not even just the Sheraton that has VIP lounges, nearly every five star hotel has started offering them in the last five years or so.

So no matter how you complain about the VIP lounge, rufflecon isn't directly responsible.

The con heads themselves might be corrupt. Or they might not. But checking who has VIP lounge access is the hotel's job, not the con.

If you really want to piss on their party, just write a message to the hotel that you won't be paying for a VIP room because you saw so many normal room key holders getting in for free, and you don't want to subsidise their freeloading ass. That should get the hotel to crack down this year (or maybe the hotel genuinely doesn't care). Or you could start making friends with con staff and get yourself into the lounge for free.

>>8900636

Yes, see, as a guest I'd be pretty pissed as well if paid the hotel for a privilege and they ended up giving that away to all and sundry. So I'd be writing in and complaining about that.

To the hotel.

Not the con.

I'd only mention to rufflecon that they were setting a bad example and were the major perpertrators. Basically the only thing you can say is that they're being bad publicity for the hotel by showing everyone that the VIP rooms are worthless.

I just really wanted to reply back to you and say that it's intimidating to put in a taobao order for me because if I want a dress that's MTO or something which will take 90 days, and accessories that may take 20 days, and something in stock, it means that I have to trust someone with everything until the longest order is done. I realise that's exactly what taobao resellers do, but it's somehow less weird to think of them with a large, corporate place to store my stuff than someone who may be working out of a tiny apartment.

That's just how I view things, I'm aware it isn't the case.

Also I have so much trouble navigating taobao it's ridiculous, I must be autistic or something because every store has like 70 categories, some that have the same baby over and over again, and then a new baby. How confusing.

Sorry that this seems like it should be in the taobao thread, it's just a response to me being a big wimp.

No, I'm not arguing anyone get more food at the tea party on the "basis" of the VIP room. People should get more food because they are overpaying and clearly there was more food made than staff, or organizers, had let on and that's not right. At all. And yes, that is in part shown by the fact that the catering intended for the tea party was brought to VIP. Whether that is the organizers or hotel catering that did that needs to be addressed.

You seem to be doing a lot of damage control for them, and you must know something to be so sure this is all the fault of hotel policy and not on any part of the organizers. But hey, maybe the organizers won't mind after all if more people decide to crash VIP lounge!

Punk is a really hard style to pull off in lolita. I'm gonna suggest go for something military as a lot of punk style is kind of miltary looking, like think about those jackets the guys with mohawks wear that have like a ton of patches and pins on them with spikes. It's very biker gang/uniform.
You can get a decent military item and do the same with it, with patches (maybe safetypin them on instead sewing them permanently) and pins and you can get some spikes too though I've never applied those so I'm not sure how much damage you'd do or if you'd be comfortable with that.

I strongly suggest staying away from gingam stuff especially in bright red as it tends to look tacky as fuck and a lot of people hate it.

I was trying to think of something tasteful. The problem is just that that specific fabric is so busy, it would be so much nicer if it was just like....m&m's in a polka dot-like pattern all over the fabric.

Maybe you could make a cute brown base dress with white accents, but then make like...an apron out of the m&m print? And you could do a headbow with like, a big brown bow and a smaller bow with the print or something. Or vice versa, you could make a dress with the print and then try to break up the pattern as much as possible with an apron and then some lace trims.

(This all just advice with the idea in mind that your gran is like, *making* you do this. If you can get out of it then by all means get out of it...)

Where did she say that? In any case, this shit has been going on for almost 2 years, and deleting comments/hiding it is pathetic and also a major warning sign as you said

HOLY FUCK IS LACEMARKET BROKEN. Like, more than usual. Everything is wonky; the buttons don't work you can't see the sellers name on the item pages anymore. It's getting more and more ridiculous. I had no idea it had gotten this bad.

Thanks anon. Tried that, didn't work. Switched browsers, deleted cookies there too. Looks okay now (Firefox). Basically, it refuses to render properly on Chrome so I'm forced to switch browsers when buying/selling. Godamn Lacemarket. The shit I go through to purchase domestic.

I would definitely hide most of in the skirt, behind a layer of chiffon or something. Only let the fabric show in small bits, like in the straps.

Does anyone have Baby's Victoire shoes in the cream/white? How do they match with Baby's true white? I have a few Baby OP's that I wanted to wear the shoes with but they're that bright white rather than off-white and I'm worried it will clash. Thanks!

i have these, they're definitely a cream color and not a true white. if you need some pics i can probably snap some comparisons for you in a couple hours.

How do you think, guys, is it hygienic to wear lolita socks and headdresses, which was bought second-hand? I know, a lot of girls wear them, but I'm still worrying a bit.

I personally don't buy used socks and I only buy used shoes from people that I know irl. I have no problems buying headdresses though, people who don't wash their hair regularly are really rare and most lolitas wear wigs anyways, so it's pretty safe imo.

Thanks, yeah, I'd appreciate it. I might pass and wait until I find a true white pair then I guess. I know that this style has been released in white, right? At least some variation of the strappy wooden sole type.

here you go- apologies for the shit quality i just snapped a quick phone pic.

left: shoes in white
right: victoire shoes in cream
bottom: headbow in cream

the shoes are a bit darker than the headbow, so i think it'll be better if you get them in white or offwhite. hopefully this helps!

website programmer anon here, press ctrl + shift delete in chrome, and select these setting in the screenshot. that should clear the cache which usually fixes rendering issues, cookies dont normally hold visual (what you see) data.

So if a website looks weird, you need to clear your cache.
