Last thread reached autosage: >>8697142

This thread is for ouji and aristocrat (aka "boystyle") discussion. Boystyle refers to the masculine counterparts of lolita and aristocrat fashions. Google ouji, aristocrat, EGA, etc., before asking questions here.

Read the whole thread before asking any questions here.

OC and selfposts encouraged! Picspam discouraged, we've seen most of it by now.

DISCUSSION PROMPT: With Buttcape's blog down, what's the best up-to-date boystyle guide to link to in future OPs? Should we make our own, like the lolitas did?

I hope someone who'll get some use out of this reads it - Peacockalorum's large/regular sized tricorns are $60 if I remember correctly, and I bought one thinking it'd be worth the price. It's comically tiny, but not mini-hat tiny, the feather is pathetic and the brooch was meh and cheaply made. I also bought some bows which came on uncomfortable, plain metal headbands despite no headband being shown in the picture (so I assumed they were clips) and my ivory bow has a white center (the knot part of the bow). I'm terrified of confrontation so I never made a review, which is my fault entirely, but I hope maybe I can prevent someone else from being as disappointed.

The bow in question was pic related in ivory, although now I do see the ugly cheap headband attached to it. Either way, for a $17 headbow ordered in a specific color, I think it's fair to expect the entire bow to be that color?

another option is to shorten long pants and sleeves if length is the only issue. tailoring long pants to be short pants would fit the aesthetic.

you can also get away with a plainer but fitting blouse if you have a good gilet. something like pic related seems to be hiding a lot of tall person troubles: folded sleeves, tall boots concealing the ends of the pants, and an eyecatching gilet (sleeveless Roland?) that draws the eyes away from the rolled-up sleeves.

they are a brand that consistently releases items labelled "ouji" that are often overlooked, and they have a wide range of sizes (small around 34cm shoulders i think, large around 41cm+) and items under $100. they release more punk than ouji but i thought you might find them worth checking out.

forget what the words themselves "really mean." if someone in my comm or on FB describes themselves as a shota, does this mean they probably like shotacon? or is there another meaning that became common among young women who are professed fujoshi?

i do not know whether to feel creeped out or not when a female boystyler uses words like seme/uke or shota to describe their look. i am hoping it is like when lolitas call themselves lolis, that is a playful thing, not related to porn, and therefore not an indication that they are getting off on the idea of little boys being sexy.

That means you should try to get things custom made for your shoulders and chest, and rely on open coats for brand main pieces. You're tall and presumably muscular, so an aristo look is better than cutesy ouji would be.
Do you have a pair of quality black trousers?
If you were fat, your situation would be completely different. You can afford to wear form fitting stuff, but your chest, shoulders, and (praise Brodin) thighs will be your limiting factor, rather than fat people, who have most trouble with waist.

that would be worth its own thread. i can share casual ouji and EGA but they are not tomboyish in the way you mean.

however, a thread for what you describe could be fun. we have had dansou threads before, so there should be an anon or two who would have an idea where to point you.

i do not browse that way, i forgot the catalog isn't default for everyone.

anyway you must have scrolled a bit too far in the wrong direction when replying initially. i don't think 4chan's software allows for ninja-moving someone's post to another thread. somehow you came to us, and we welcome you.

Thank you for naming this!

I got hairdo; but hairstylist made my long hair into a bob-cut with pointed ends. It's kind of OK, but not ouji enough and I might try to get it fixed in some time. Sadly it's nothing to self-post in.

I got hairdo; but it's more of a bob cut than ouji cut, it's generally ok but I might try to wait how it'll look after hair will regrow a bit and maybe try to make it more bouncy?

they are closer to sweet and classic ouji than gothic. the first two are a bit OTT, and all three are definitely more princely feeling, the way hime lolita has a more dressed-up/royal feel than non-hime.

pic related has an example of "sweet ouji" on the left, with more examples below it. you can have sweet in dark or muted colors or jewel tones; what separates it from "classic ouji" (examples in lower right of >>8781874) are the motifs in prints, the playful or "younger" look.

but this is open to interpretation and discussion. i have never seen anyone discuss these 2 scans and what they mean for ouji substyles, if anything. a lot of people seem to think sweet ouji means pastels and girly motifs, but to me the playing cards, Mad Hatterness, florals, as well as the shape (shorter or poofier) mark them as closer to sweet.

but also fairly close to classic. if you want to define your style, perhaps "sweet-classic ouji" would get the least disagreement.

Anybody have any tips/examples of how to combine navy and black in an ouji coord? Is it ok to do?

yes. the trick is to make sure it looks purposeful rather than accidental. if you have a piece that has both navy and black, like a pinstripe pattern, that will help. otherwise, maybe make sure your blacks are true and will not photograph as navy.

pic related, i cannot tell which pieces are black or navy depending on the pic. if the blacks were darker, and the legwear less bright, it might look more cohesive. (it is her first ouji coord and this is a nitpick, it's not nouji at all to me, just an illustration of a black x navy coord that almost works.)

sorry for small low res image, but here, the colors are more clearly marked. the navy blouse has a clearly black jabot and trim. you can tell there are 2 distinct colors complementing each other.

that is a cool vest but i am not sure black pants would look right, especially since the navy of the vest appears to be almost a faded black, so the result might be a bit muddy. i think it can work as a first coord if that is what you have to work with, but if you are looking to buy pants i would seek a pair in a color the vest uses.

it does look like the rabbit brooch has black on it, and you might be able to bring out the black and navy with accessories that use both colors.

but honestly, if it fits your body and you carry yourself with confidence and a smile, you can get away with wearing just about anything.

>I won't be able to buy matching print pants.
for a busy print like that i would recommend a solid color, just a color that is used in the print (a matching shade of blue, white, or red, for example).

i think if you really like this vest and have the funds, better to get it while you can and save up for different pants. finding a good print for boystyle is very difficult, and stuff like that hardly ever shows up secondhand so once it's sold out you might be SOL. you are taking a risk either way, but it is not like you're getting married, they're just clothes.

good luck and post results!

have you worn non-casual ouji in public without anyone with you who was wearing jfash?

>> No.8805521

>>8805454
Yeah, often. I'm at a liberal arts college, and I make a point of wearing jfash at least once a week.
I've only gotten questions and compliments; if you wear something suitlike, trim, and black, people like it, at least where I'm from.
