I'm coming from far away and the only person I have to help me run my table is modelling in the fashion show. We have to be away from our table for a few hours for the fashion show rehearsal and the show itself. What should I do to keep my table safe when we aren't there running it? This is my first con so, obviously this is an incredibly dumb question and I'm pretty embarrassed that the situation didn't occur to me earlier.

this is probably better for the artist alley thread but my idea would be to find a third person that you trust to run your table. tbh if you knew you were going to table at a con, then you should have planned on staying there for the entire time. leaving your table unguarded at a con is waaay too risky.

People typically call out "scalping" in one of two scenarios. I'm not saying whether or not they are justified, just the general trend.
>When they sell for way more than what the dress is worth
It's fine if you get a rare dress, wait a while, and sell it for 20% more if it really is sought after... But when you pick up some BL trash and add a zero to the price tag then that's a little excessive.
>When they buy a dress for the sole intent of marking it up to sell
This is more controversial, let's say dress A has a limited run online of 500 dresses. Maybe a person buys 3 of said dress, or maybe they only get more, but they don't really want to own it or even "try it out". They just bump up the price to turn a profit because the dress is limited edition.

Personally the first one doesn't get me mad, if you jack up your price and someone is willing to buy it at that price then that's between the two of you. For the second one, I suppose it is ethical and "fair" in the sense of capitalism/free market/whatever but it is irritating to have to go through second hands and a markup just to get a dress from someone who wants to make a buck.

Is this for rufflecon, or an anime con? If it's rufflecon, you probably can close your table relatively safely. Bring fabric / bed sheets and tape, pins or binder clips. Cover everything completely and pin/clip/tape the fabric down. Ask who ever is next to you to watch and make sure no one messes with it. But really tuck all that fabric in so that it's a pain to get anything out from under it. And take your cash box with you, don't leave it.

Alternatively, find out what other lolita brands are going to be there and who is next to you. You can try asking the person who will be next to you if they have someone to cover their table, and if that person would be able / willing to help watch or cover your table as well.

You could also try just asking your friend's list in general who is going, and see if you can get coverage even just for the prep time from those people?

if you want Fit Fridays to come back, make them fit into the topic of the board. do not make it about gender--take that shit to lolcow. make it something like:

>Do you fit brand well? What would you change, or what are you trying to change?

What you want to pay attention to is fabric weight (velveteen + quilting weight cotton would be weird), placement (a bodice that is half a textured fabric like gobelin and half another texture would be weird), quality, and washability (don't put dry clean only fabric with hand wash only fabric; you will have no way to wash your garment)

So, first off, cheers on doing a cyberpunk outfit, I hope you post it here when you're finished because I always like to see some good cyberpunk stuff.

I always liked the 80's cyberpunk aesthetic of carrying around a somewhat clunky deck. I've seen some designs where the deck is on a shoulder strap for carrying around. Or you could make a head mounted deck and have your cell phone on the side showing stats like CPU usage, temp, memory, etc. Or a really cheesy 'virtual reality' render. If you really want to integrate it into your outfit though I'd consider either using a lot of cybernetics, the maybe have your phone showing the running stats on your augmentations, with it mounted on your chest and peaking out of your jacket, or on your bicep peaking out of short sleeves. You could also just do the arm mount and make it look slim and slick. Pipboys are purposefully huge to fit the 50's retro future theme, if you don't have that bulky silhouette on your arm, it won't look too much like a pipboy..

It's not even always specific contests so much as it is the individual judges you get that really impact that criteria. Obviously, if you can sew well and know what details make a lolita dress as opposed to a normalfag/ vintage dress (skirt width, pintucks, ruffles, lace, details). It's certainly better than squeezing yourself into something that doesn't fit, but for christs sake be tasteful, use good fabric and skill. And use lolita accessories, etc. Get your basics and petticoat. Wigs shouldn't be the first thing you're buying. If you were completely new and didn't own anything I wouldn't start with a themed coord.
Also you should probably lose weight but I'm going to assume you're working on that.

In summer I like to wear light cotton sack/ babydoll dresses (not fitted) with only a mesh fabric bra or none at all (similar weather here, gets to over 40celcius) but it sounds like you already have something in mind. I heard uniqlo has cooling undershirts that are pretty good but I've never tried it. Obviously light materials and stay in the shade. Do a milkmaid braid or something with your hair.
If you were just asking 'what sort of dress can I wear in summer' I'd say dresses are actually cooler and more comfortable than shorts anyway. Long sleeves aren't inherently bad either, it's better to have your arms covered in a light material to protect them from the biting sun (think desert wear). Everybody recommends chiffon but I don't find polyester chiffon (the most common/ durable type) that cool, thin cottons are better.

If you like it, wear it. If you have thin skin and don't want to be posted to the ita thread, don't post photos of it online.

For casual daily wear, you can use the tag dailyalamode so people know it's not lolita.

As for whether it's looked down upon, you're not off to a good start. Old school lolita favoured chunkier platforms, not dainty mary janes (yes, you can find photos of girls in mary janes but the chunkier platforms were preferred. Mary janes sometimes look too plain in an outfit where everything else is frilly). If you only ever wear the same pair of shoes in every photo you'll get snarked on for only owning one pair of shoes, especially if you're intent on mismatching them every chance you get. This isn't even considering how many other ways you can fuck up a lolita outfit (and let's face it, if you're already considering shortcuts by asking if you can get away with being mismatched, it's not a good sign of your coording skills)

Personally, if the shoes and daily casual wear are so important to you, I'd build the entire wardrobe around those pair of shoes and daily wear function (think capsule wardrobe), that way they're never mismatched. If you already have a wardrobe that doesn't match the shoes, either get rid of it or get another pair of shoes for it.
