Honestly we used to go to Otakon and have a hotel room without adult supervision from the time I was 14 and we never did anything g half as dumb as the homestucks. Yes I did three years ago for Thursday and Sunday Nights, and it was fine. i honestly really liked it quite a bit. Idk I like staying in hostels a lot though because you can meet so many interesting people. The staff there knows that Otakon is happening and are accommodating.

Utena is amazing and one of my absolutely favorite series of like all time. Like I've done 4 version of one of the characters and plan on cosplaying another next year. The tumblr section of the fandom likes to call all of the male characters shit because they're all abusive towards the females and pretty much all of the het pairings in the manga, movie, and anime are. But they ignore the fact that technically there are 4 canons to the series and one het relationship in the movie manga is ok. They also ignore that one of the female characters is a manipulative bitch towards another girl that loves her. But it's pretty good over all the anime can get a bit convoluted at times I'd say try the manga first. I know a girl who watched te anime as her first anime ever and she was mildly traumatized. Honestly i get why it's so popular with lgbt+ anime fans. It has lesbians, bisexuals men on top of cars with their shirts blowing open, characters that can be interpreted as trans, and if you want a series with horrible men it has that too... and still feels like an old school shojo series.

There are never really any pannels that I want to go to. I'm kind of tempted to go to the pattern drafting workshop on Friday morning but that depends if I feel like getting up that early/have my badge on time. I'm helping out an AA table this year and I have to get my badge and flag with her and she may not get in until too late Thursday night.

Hi all, I was thinking about trying out cosplay for the first time this year at Otakon. I've been there before, but never "dressed" for it.

I'm thinking about doing a very simple Shaggy Rogers kind of thing. Literally some closet cosplay. It's easy to just put on a green shirt and wear some redish-brown pants. I cut my hair, so maybe I will shoot for a wig, but it's running obviously very close.

To fall in with how "easy" I think this should be, I was really pushed to go for it because I am told I can do a decent shaggy voice. I think being able to do a voice makes a cosplay a bit better.

The dealers room gets pretty crowded but it's still super large and a good place to meander around if you have a few hours to kill. The rave is kind of like any other anime con rave, with lots of gross sweaty people, underage kids, and the general temperature of hell. Y'know, the usual Western kind, not Dante's kind.

There is a subway and some other places over this skywalk kind of set up from the BCC.

If you want some real fucking food, some real god damn fucking food, and I know you said cheap, but no. Go to Fogo de Chao or whatnot off the inner harbor. $52 a person, for all you can eat meats carved right in front of you. Brazilian steakhouses are the best.

One block north of the Hilton is my favorite 24 hour hole in the wall greasy spoon in Bmore, The Upper Deck Bar and Grill. That place has good cheap eats and serves breakfast at all hours. Bonus points for it being next door to a strip club. Beware that when the clubs close at 2am that place gets swamped.

Walk up a bit further from Upper Deck and you'll hit Lexington Market which has everything from chicken joints, hotdog joints and deli's and more. All of it cheap.

If you can, do try to find a Royal Farms and get their chicken.

Red/black samurai back to say I actually won't be making it to Otakon... Friend just called to tell me Hilton double-booked him and his only option was a hotel 12 miles out the city and we'd have to take the light rail transit that we'd have to drive through... I've already been to Otakon this way 3/4 times I went, and it was a disaster every time that lead to me sitting in a hotel for 15+ hours of convention time... If I don't park in the city for $20 a day, I'd have nowhere to stash all the crap I'd want to buy and have to carry everything I buy until we get back to the hotel room 12 miles away...

I really needed a good Otakon 4-day staycation, but instead I'm cancelling and drowning in my sorrows with liqour over the next four days unless someone tells me that my friend and I can room with them for only $100 (I know, I know, impossible to accomadate at such a low bid)...

But yeah... Have fun at the con guys, but I can't go... My life is too stressful to ride transit, be a taxi driver, etc. I'm already on stuff for anxiety, and this trip was supposed to be a way for me to relieve stress, not intensify it...
