Last one is gone. We're beginning to run out of things, so feel free to selfpost. I'll dump some of my favourites.

I already commented but I think a long cross necklace could be cute. I agree to go with a black or white satchel but a black leather backpack could also work. It's not that the bat wings don't go, but I'd personally go for something plainer, but if you already own it it's fine.

>>8459800
Short answer: you cant

Long answer: people have tried a lot of stuff like velcro, double sided tape, pinning, sewing or sock gluing them to your socks or tights, but it always messes up your legwear and looks bad with only slight effectiveness. So people put the straps up for photos, then rewrap them around the ankles for walking around. Unless maybe if you have super dainty but knobby legs the straps can get a hold on?

I feared as much. I just have normal legs, neither fat nor thin, I can wrap them fine like the photos all show but then no matter how tight, they slide down. I was thinking to maybe sew some yarn or invisible thread loops to socks at each place where they cross on one of my pairs of knee socks, then threading the straps through. I may try it on some cheap knee socks first. It's a shame because I love the look of them going up the leg.

The things that are considered lifestyle really don't make much sense to me since I'm more into gothic and mature Victorian styles. So kawaii interior decoration, baking and cooking don't really match that. More appropriate would be going for walks, hunting and horse riding, drawing and reading books or playing tennis and croquet.

I thought maybe /cgl/ wouldn't be very lifestyle, but I'm really happy with so many of the responses and it really gave me hope lifestyle isn't dead. I think most people have something "lifestyle" about them if they're in lolita.

I think if there's another thread or if someone else were to make it one again, I'd like to post some things in it that can relate to various lolita lifestyles. Sewing, baking, and maybe classic feminine activities.

I think a good way to go about blending the new and the old (assuming we're sticking with a sweet/classic bent rather than gothic) is to look into more modern non-print pieces, especially those that AP releases.

So many gorgeous dresses from the past five years or so fly under the radar because of print hype. The construction of AP dresses, and lolita in general, has changed over the years (you can still tell the difference between a 2005 piece and a 2011 piece), but many newer dresses give off that old school vibe.

Pieces like the Society OP, the Dolly Shirring OP, Whipped Gingham Ruffle, Dressy Jabot, and Elegant Velveteen Birdcage are a few of AP's "modern old school" gems.

When creating a coord, think about which elements you want to keep stuck in 2004 and which would look best updated.

>Ex A: old school OP, maxi headdress, and socks + modern hairstyle, bag, and shoes

>Ex B: old school jsk, headbow, hairstyle, and shoes + modern chiffon blouse and tights

I don't really have specific coords in mind here. Obviously focus more on what looks best to you rather than fitting some old/new quota.

Headdress arrived in the mail. I got the black and white version. I also got wristcuffs. I did a quick try on to see how it would look worn, and it looks good to me. (Excuse the crappy quality.) The ribbons are a bit longer than I expected, but no big deal.

I've got some long bloomers coming in the mail, and I'll buy a more old school style cotton blouse later. The chiffon one seems a little out of place to me. I'm happy with how my wardrobe is coming along. It's growing slowly but steadily.

This thread has me in tears TBH I'm legit about to cry like a baby. I have so many old school feels. The nostalgia and all these old pictures are killing me. Lolita just isn't the same for me today as it was for me several years ago. I don't know if it's just me, or if the culture and style has really changed that much since I first discovered the fashion. I've been feeling myself fall out of Lolita over the last year and now I'm wondering if it has something to do with things being different these days. I hope I don't fall out completely because Lolita used to be so important to me. I wish I could time travel back to 2008. This must be how little old ladies feel when they think about their youth.

overly emotional anon still.

Does anyone have pictures from old photo-shoots or things like that? I only have a couple, and those meant more to me than magazine scans because seeing "real people" in the clothes just felt completely magical and it fueled me so much. I've tried looking through the EGL archives to find old pictures and shoots but didn't find much of anything.

Also, Skye was such a huge inspo to me. I know a lot of people didn't like her and there was some drama about her a couple times, but she really did inspire me and I thought that all her outfits were just perfect, even the super casual ones. I even liked her new blog that she did when she left Lolita. I wish she would have continued to blog. I liked her writing style. She probably got tired after blogging for so many years and getting so much attention, I always figured maybe that's why she quit.

I actually like the first look for that kinda 'gives no shits' oldschool look, although I can understand why it might look nitpicky or borderline 'ita' to some anons. Anyway, I think you could do look 1 as is except replace the striped socks for the black x white lace ones (the stripes are 100% no with that jsk in my book). You could add a nice black ribbon neck bow too if you wanted to really strike a balance between the black and white with the red. A black x white or black x red bag would also look good.

If you're gonna do it anon, remember to not skimp on hair and make-up (what you have going on in pic 1 looks pretty cute from what I can see).

For example, i'm not into cooking, sewing (i tried with no success) but i love to create by myself cute jewellry, getting into hobbies like doll or minature collecting (vintage and kawaii dollhouse items), reading books, etc. I love both gothic stuff as well kawaii items. Lolita lifestyle need to be created from your tastes and not liking something you would never like, infact you are creating your own lifestyle and that is good.

I have one of the Pochette versions. They're ridiculously cute but you really can't wear them as a backpack, though the straps are designed for that. I have one of the big Usakumyas and I basically only use it as a stuffed animal. The highest clasp thing on it is at the base of its neck, so the head kind of droops when you're wearing it as a backpack and you can't really put much into it because of all the stuffing. I'm looking out for a Kuma Kumya rucksack right now but they rarely come cheap...

I'm so confused, where along the line did Bodyline essentially become the super cheapo non-brand? Thing is, even then this was pretty cheap by lolita fashion standards. For basic dresses etc, lolita used to be so much more expensive, relatively speaking. Even somewhat 'budget' brands like Cornet were generally more expensive than bodyline at this time.

Regarding the branding / image change, I reckon they realised they couldn't compete with the market and so went further down the 'cheap n cheerful' route. The shitty website fits into that image as well. They don't need to bother because they don't have to. It may seem odd, but they make so much more money now than they used to and don't need try to add any sense of prestige to their brand. A lot of Japanese folk wear bodyline for dress up at home and 'sexytime', concerts etc where they don't want to get their stuff ruined, and then there are poorfag school kids that just want to get in on nanchatte or lolita fashion on the cheap.

When I went to bodyline harajuku, it was predominantly high school age kids and what appeared to be cosplayers looking for wigs. There were also a handful of late 20s ish couples probably looking for fun stuff to spice up their sex life.

I don't get this either, other than a bunch of skimpy lingerie, they didn't seem all that more 'sex shop' like in the past. Bodyline had a bunch of ads since the G&L bible started if I remember rightly.

I wonder if bodyline was once part of a larger more 'sex shop' type store that then branched out and became mostly separate?

Was it really ever a 'fetish clothing only' store? I bought a bodyline lolita dress in 2003 and I remember the site even then being more of a costume / dress up store in general, with a bit of ero and sexy lingerie type stuff as well. Perhaps it's just a question of interpretation. I don't think it ever sold fetish gear and stuff like that. It was far tamer than say, Ann Summers stores for instance.

The categories in the side bar (as far as my beginner level Japanese skills can make out) are 'chinadress', gothic & lolita', 'costume', 'enamel corset' and 'bra & shorts' - not exactly super-fetishy but perhaps too far removed from lolita fashion for comfort for some people.

They had a whole bunch of 'china dresses' up until a few years ago, I bought one once but sold it on because of the odd fit.

Pic related is a bodyline OP from 2003-ish if anyone's curious. It was also my first lolita clothing item.

The lace is awful, truly heinous stuff and the main material is thick and slightly coarse, now covered in bobbles. It still holds a certain charm however, I genuinely like the cut and design, so much so that I kinda want to make a pattern from it and remake it using higher quality materials. Also kinda reminds me of Antique beasT, making me wonder if it was a knock off or at least inspired by one of their older designs.

I'm tempted to make a coord with it after confining it to the attic for so many years, if only for silly-ass nostalgia sake.

The lace doesn’t look all that bad in photos or even in person (if you don't get to close).

I think it's the same principle of building a lolita wardrobe in general (finding a favorite piece and working your wardrobe around it with basics), but sticking with more simpler styled pieces (minimal to no print)which you can find references to on lolibrary or hellolace by year. The outdated guides on lj might come in handy because they'll say things like investing in a pair of rocking horse shoes and knee socks, and I remember DIY was really big back then, even among Japanese lolitas (refer to Avant Gauche). You can also find inspiration in old FRUiTS scans (I think the book still exists).

Common old school pieces (from my understanding and experience):

>Blouses with detachable sleeves
>plain and ladder lace skirts
>knee high socks
>platform shoes, including RHS and mary jane platforms - usually black, even in sweet coords
>(empire waistlined) jsks and OPs with non-printed embellishments
-lace, ruffles, embroidery
>traditional headdresses, alice bands, mini top hats

I think you'll have a lot of luck finding unwanted older pieces for cheap on places like mbok and the Japanese yahoo auctions.

I can't wear head bows because as much as I love them, headbands give me nasty headaches no matter what I do. Bows also tend to not look good on me unless I wear them clipped to the back of my head, I think because I have fine hair and I don't wear wigs. I was always taught that old school head dresses would look bad on me because of my hair as well. My favorite style is old school sweet that's on the touch of the casual side, and almost all of my outfits are inspired by that.

I'm trying to come up with head wear that will suit me and still match the style I'm trying to aim for. Would wearing a full sized hat take away from that look too much? I noticed that sometimes in old school pictures, someone may not have worn any head wear at all, would this be okay too? And is it true that an old school style headband won't look good on someone with thin hair?

I'm just in love with BABY's older head bows but I can't wear them because I just can't figure out how to make bows like that work for me. Bums me out.

I own some HeartE blouses and I love how comfortable they are! One even comes with a detachable collar layer so you can have minimal peter pan or double laceyness
