I know the ouji accessory thing is a joke, but it gets on my nerves sometimes. I loved lolita for a long time before learning about ouji and how to buy it, and doing so was of my own volition. it bugs me that people assume my girlfriend has coerced me into wearing it or that I'm in it to get closer to female lolitas.

I have my own taste, I make my own coords, I spend hours searching through sites for the things I want and certain pieces have taken months to find. I even regularly go thrifting for things I might use, dreaming up new coord ideas as I go. It sucks to be seen as a sidekick.

fortunately, not everyone truly thinks that way, and it is exaggerated on places like 4chan. if you catch someone admitting to that kind of dismissive, lazy thinking, you at least know to avoid them because it is probably not the only subject they are small-minded about.

This coord was confused 4 times the day I wore it, and it wasn't very.. kuroshitsujesque.

I can see people not being able to tell because of the hair. The colour scheme and style of the shorts, blouse, and hat look very much in the style of the anime but it's the hair that makes it look like a Ciel cosplay.

It is very common. Both Buttcape and Aeryn have said that they get Ciel comments a lot at cons. I think Aeryn gets it more because of her hair since it has been that silver that Ciel sometimes is.

I can see why people thought she was cosplaying with that outfit, it matches enough to an actual cosplay of him. Unlike /cgl/, most people will not care about accuracy enough to complain but will see the overall outfit and try to make a connection to what it is from. Short wig, especailly in that color, plus the boystyle outfit is pretty much Ciel. Its a shame that actual Black butler collabs are not as obviously from the show as some stuff you can get from normal brand releases.

Do you think this would pass for a simple aristocrat coord? I feel like it could do with a much bigger, generally more prominent bow at the neck but other than that, I'm not sure where else to take it. I bought their coffee tea prince set (I think that was what it was called) with two vest styles and the pants. The worst thing was the wait time, which keep growing and growing. They gave my agent a run around every couple weeks, until they send it nearly 2 months after they initially said. The quality is really good, and the material is thicker than I expected. The vests fit and look great, but the pants ran large/long and look a little off because of it. I've been too lazy to alter them. All together, I'd say hey're worth it for the cheap price, just be prepared to wait if they don't have ready stock.

My partner and I have 'lolita dates' where we'll wear lolita to our dinner/movie dates. We always get great reactions and lots of compliments when we're both dressed in lolita, but I wore ouji out last time, and the reception was very cold. People were really rude and nasty to me, including the waitress where we went? It's an ouji coord that everyone seemed to like a lot at cons and meetups after that day, so I don't think it's because I looked bad? My partner says it's maybe because it's more clear we're a couple, and we live in a homophobic area, but it's not like I don't hold her hand and stuff when we're both in dresses. It's made me not want to wear it out of cons again, so I'd say my frist time wearing ouji was a bad experience. I hope yours went better! I still like the fashion, and plan to buy more of it than lolita in the future.

It was a blast! It was my first meet up with the biggest comm in the state, and everyone loved it. I was one of very few oujis at the meet and they were all really excited to have more boystyle in the mix. Plus I had fun playing chauffeur to my friends who were in lolita. lolita is ultra-feminine, and flamboyant in a way that is familiar to expectations of feminine wear. however strange it is, it does not stray far from what society pictures as feminine.

ouji is flamboyant in a masculine way, which makes people uncomfortable, because there is not much in modern society to compare it to, aside from maybe outdated glam.

That's true. We sometimes get nasty treatment in normal clothes when we hold hands too, so I guess they think lesbians who're both very girly don't exist or something. Thanks, my con ouji experience is great, so it makes up for it! As for rules, I think for most it's more of a feeling? i feel the same. i am also interested in looks that are outside the norm; when does a coord stop being ouji and become something else? i can accept a range of looks, but i gather a lot of the sameyness of ouji and male aristo is due to super narrow conceptions of what counts and what doesn't.

i wish to see more variety, and to see people argue about when a coord becomes something other than ouji, because there seem to be less clear rules than lolita but also a narrow range of coords.

I would love to find some places for white knee-high pants or pumpkin shorts that are more feminine, so to say.
The only ones I can think of would be Precious Clove, but they don't have anything for sale right now that fits into ouji. Brands sometimes do rompers but not a lot...
White would be the second-best choice for me at least because if they're cotton, I could easily dye them to whatever color I want. Thanks in advance!

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense and kinda along the lines of what I was thinking which is reassuring. The print is actually a yellowy-cream though which isn't really clear from the picture, although it does have twinkly silver and clear crystal studs set into it.

I came up with pic related but the cameo brooch for the neck although apparently perfect color-wise, is perhaps a bit cheap looking(?).

you might get more responses in the coord help thread, especially since this is a Boystyle general. i do like what you've got going on but skirts and dresses are not my specialty.

however: if you find the cameo to be cheap looking, there are many ways to purchase a cameo so i would not give up looking for one you like more. i have obtainef bags of resin cameos and bezels to DIY for cheaper than a single finished cameo, you just need a good glue, pin back, and something to sand any uneven edges down with.

also, go coordisnap.com and keep an eye on the 王子 (ouji) tag. there is a wide variety, and not everything that pops up is ouji since the word is not exclusive to the fashion. but most of the casual coords i have found came from there, since it is a site for sharing daily outfits as opposed to the convention-specific coords that are more shared in the west.

It depends; lifestyle for aristo-leaning types is probably the good ol' tea and music type, but for youthful, punkish ouji, I think it's more about not caring what other people think. Mana worship is a must for both, tho, praise his twintail halo.
Ever since I started going out in boystyle, I feel like I've become more ostentatious, unafraid to do something embarrassing or inconvenient if it might benefit someone, make them smile or laugh or think. I'm more polite, but also more outgoing.
However, a true boystyle lifestyler would probably be a really devoted romantic friend to a lolita, and do stupid stuff like kiss girls' hands and hold doors and bow all the time.
There's a good reason people assume all ouji are gay.

although i am not a lifestyler, since getting into ouji my philosophy has changed a bit. i want to be princely. if i catch myself slouching, or picking food from my teeth in public, i tell myself a prince would not do that. my wardrobe has not changed, but i am attempting an attitude adjustment with the goal of being a worthy prince. perhaps that is a bit silly, but it is a good boost of motivation.
