I need some advice on a few things.
1. Tights, i'm kinda tall and not feeling these UTK's, should i go for some lightly printed tights? black or white?

2. i was told the bat headress looks bad with the bob wig, should i change the wig to a longer one or use another headress? any ideas for a different one?

3. accessories... should i try some wrist cuffs? i feel like just bracelets might look plain because of the short sleeves.

I'm not a gothic lolita so take my advice on the surface. You have two themes to work with to make it easy on you, bats or crosses. Crosses would be easier but bats are pretty cute. Your bag matches both themes so it could be used in both.

Crosses:

these should be easy to find. The white provides better contrast but black+sheerness would look nice too I think.

something simple could work. maybe something with jewelry? anything simple would look cute with the bob wig.

Same with the crosses though I'm not sure how easy they can be to find. Printed tights can look cheesy with the bats so you can go more toned down. Aetherlund's batwing cuffs could be a cute addition.

I agree the bat headdress looks off with the bob wig. The wig isn't full enough to support it. I've seen gray look great with it but a long black wig should be fine.

You still need some wristcuffs or some elaborate bracelets. I'm sure you simple would work fine and that bat motifs could be found easily.

Yes they would work. Is the side border like a rose gold color though? I'd try to use that as an accent color with your coord, such as with the jewelry, headwear, and accessories.

This is just a thing I do myself but I just get basic black wristcuffs and buy matching charms myself and sew them on. You can definitely do the same if you can't find wristcuffs you like!

Also I just noticed you had tiny batwings on your shoes in the original picture! that's adorable, I hope you use them in a future coord!

I'm working on a coord for a formal event next month. I have all the items pictured but I'm not sure which combination I should go with, and if there's anything else I need. The items with crown stamps cannot be changed.

I mostly need help with which wig to use, which shoes would match best, and if these tights are okay or if anyone could recommend anything better.
I *may* add a rosette if I can make a quality one in time. The colors I want to focus on are brown, black, and gold.

the bow shoes look too sweet, try a medium length wig instead of a rapsody wig or twintail, it will look better and suit the blouse more!

The tights could work but you would have to be careful because if pulled off wrong they could look like tights that have been badly worn out.
And watch out for black and brown, it can be a hit or miss.
Keep the gold to subtle accents, and try and avoid headbows that are too sweet, keep it on the classic route and I think it could look eally well presented.

I like the rest of the coord until the tights, I think the TejaJamilla tights in black x gold would be much better for this.

By the way I'm assuming this is a formal lolita event where matchy-matchy everything is the best thing ever rather than a formal dinner with normally dressed people.

Planning on getting this dress when it comes out but I am absolutely stumped on a blouse. I don't want any collar to interfere with the cute sailor collar but going with exposed shoulders just feels weird.

I'd go with some plainer brown tea parties and the brown/tan socks. Your beret is brown, right? That could be cute if you clip a pink bow on it, otherwise I'd go with the pink head bow. You don't need too many accessories for casual, maybe just a cute brown purse and a necklace that hits under the bow of the blouse.

Posted in the last thread as it was dying, but could I get some help with shoes/bag recommendations?
I'd like to make some accessories based on the print, too, but I'm still figuring out what exactly to make.

I'm sorry about how basic my problem is, but I've never worked with darker colours before so I'm a bit in over my head with this. This is what I have for the coord so far, and I have no idea what to do for socks/shoes or hair pieces. Also, one or two buttons are still visible from under the vest, would that be alright if I added some subtle gold accents to the coord through jewelry/small pins?

How do I coord this? I can't find very many good examples of this colorway of divine cross coorded well. I really would like to try a white take on gothic but I don't really do white that much so it's kind of throwing me off, especially in regards to legwear and bags. I don't really want to use black because I feel like it might look odd for it to come out of nowhere? I like the bat thing going on with the headdress and bag but I just don't know how to bring in more black (or if I even should). Thirded for the black being out of place. I think sticking with white and cross themes is kind of a given because of the giant cross on the dress. I would personally go for the white socks with blue ribbon, try to find a circular headdress in white lace with blue ribbon and go with a white bag - probably something simple like a lace-overlay clutch or a rose-shaped bag.

The gold bracelet needs to go, it doesn't work with anything else. For the wig try something blonde and longer than shoulder length. A bit of texture (waves, rhapsody) will help add interest.

I agree with >>8354282, and would add that you've tried too hard to mix too many different cute and fancy themes in both outfits which makes them both look off and not cohesive at all. You can do cute and fancy as long as the overall look works, and unfortunately neither do.
If you want to go more fancy than cute, start with the first coord, swap in the tights from the second one and go with only the cat ears + an elegant updo - think more Breakfast at Tiffany's than kawaii cat maid. I agree that shorter gloves are better than the long ones, and would also suggest maybe a fur capelet or stole.

IMO the second oufit is a mess and the glitter shoes don't work at all with the dress.

I'm incredibly unconvinced by what you've got going on with the main piece, it just makes me feel like I can't see it properly. The cage-skirt-over-stained glass print is eh (it would work better for a more abstract stained glass pattern since it wouldn't already have panels/structure within the print), and having it half-covered over that is messy again. If you must cover it I would suggest a bustled sheer overskirt so that it drapes with the way the windows are spaced. Also not convinced by RHS in this outfit - I'd rather black-on-black RHS-inspired flatforms. Black with gold accents is however one of my favourite combinations and I'd definitely bring it through in a rosary-inspired gold/black bracelet, maybe some small cross charms on the bonnet and other wrist/hand jewellery (rather than wrist cuffs/gloves)

Whatever you do, I think Irregular Choice shoes would be fantastic for OTT classic. I liked these because they have organza laces and pick up the blue tones in the dress, although don't have the same motifs.

Can't really go wrong with pairing pastels with other pastels. Lavender, pink, and yellow would go nicely, I think. You can also try a simpler country look with a white blouse and legwear with brown shoes and a boater hat. Keep in mind that AP's stock photos tend to be washed out so it might not be the same green as on your monitor.

Sorry for a bit of mix-n-matching and reposting. I've been piecing together advice in these threads here and there.

I'm between some ideas for two different coords right now but I'd like a little refining/input! These are just a bunch of pieces I have or am thinking about putting together. Any suggestions? The ones with the green star I already have. Red box is one idea for a coord, blue box is another, and purple box are pieces that could work for either.

Also thinking about taking advantage of the IW blouse sale and getting something to go with the Rococo braid, but I also really want to coord it with some sort of bolero/cardigan....The neckline for Rococo Braid is kind of high, but also weird (kinda like a bustier, I think?) and I don't really know what kind of blouses go well with that, so any suggestions for blouses would be awesome.

First coord here with babby-tier questions. Didn't see a brolita or nitpick thread so I have to post here. Need advice and criticism.

I tried to go for gothic lolita but I must have been temporarily colorblind because what I pieced together isn't gothic (I think). In fact, I don't know what style this is. If I knew what it was maybe I'll be able to get more fitting accessories for it. I'm thinking 'casual' due to the colors but it really isn't (and I don't trust my judgment in any case).

And speaking of accessories, what kind of accessories would work well? I was thinking a parasol but I sort of like having my hands free too.

Possibly unrelated question: The straps on the shoes keep on unbuttoning. Is there a way to prevent that or should I just walk more gently?

IW's shoulder straps are usually made with buttons at the end, so that you can take the button off and re-sew them further down the straps if you find the jsk sits a bit too high on you. The design looks like it should only be as high as any other jsk, so move the button if it doesn't seem to sit right.

Considering the decoration right at the top of the jsk neckline, I'd say to go for a blouse that doesn't have any decorations down the front, ie- not jabots or chest ruffles (in other words, nix that blouse you picked out). You collage gives me the impression you're dressing for summer, so I'd say to choose a blouse that suits your climate as well, eg- short sleeved blouse. If you want one of the 20% off IW sale blouses, I think the Flower Button Blouse, Maiden's Prayer on a Starry sky blouse would work

I think the brown tights only go well with the bolero with brown trim. I'd swap it out for something less heavy -- maybe one of the brown crochet-type lace tights on taobao, so it's not so solid, then it'll match better with the book bag.

The straw hat looks a little plain, maybe you can get a couple of scarfs or wide ribbons to tie around it so it doesn't look quite so farmer-like.

The rest of the stuff looks good.

This looks like classic to me. But, personally I think it's okay if you ignore the substyles altogether. Concentrate on getting a good colour balance going instead, and just keep an eye on the balance of the outfit so that it looks cohesive and not too confused. Someone else can have the pain (or pleasure) of deciding what substyle it is, your only job is to look good.

As for the shoes, I honestly think your best bet is to replace them, not because of the loose button, but because they don't seem to go with anything else in your outfit. I get that your wig is brown, but this outfit looks like your closet was too dim for you to realise you put on brown shoes instead of black shoes when you got dressed. I'd go with black shoes instead.

Other than that, some pearl and/or gold jewellery (to match the gold on the skirt) would polish off the coord nicely.

What I would say, is bodyline socks tend to have horrible lace, you're better off getting some OTKs off aliexpress or something, and maybe adding nicer lace yourself. Also I'd definitely go for the shorter wig, personally, but that's just my own personal taste.

I'm a newfag to lolita, so I'm asking for some quick concrit on this stupid no-brand, super casual coord for an anime con. I'm attending a lolita event there in which people will be selling/exchanging pieces, so I'm eager to get my first piece from there (rather than buying it off the internet without seeing it first in person, y'know.)

I don't think it's so bad anon, the construction is decent and the materials are ok. I just think the color combo and balance is a bit awkward.

The jsk also kinda reminds me of certain Angelic Pretty stuff from 2006-ish.

Anyway, I think it can be improved a lot with some minor modification - I think changing the grey centre bow for a pink one and adding a little pink button detail makes a difference.

I think it's best to keep things relatively simple and on this occasion, perhaps ignore the grey and instead try to strike a nice balance between pink and white.

so this is kinda coord help, also kinda sewing/design help. My comm is doing a storybook themed meetup and I'm wanting to use this book that my grandma used to read to me called "The little Mouse, The red ripe strawberry, and the big hungry bear". This might be too many motifs, but I really like my black fleur de lis tights from sockdreams. They're not expensive, they're cool for summer, and they'd cover your legs with simple detail that I don't think would distract from the print. I think the trick with this is statement accessories/colours and coordination around those. For example, novelty bags can change the whole theme of the outfit - think about a book shaped bag vs cat one, and the impact of a rich moitie blue as a third colour in your outfit. Allright. It's getting chilly here. I have a meet next month and I'd like to wear Iron Gate out again. I want to go for a sort of vintage gothic/classic coord. I think some of the Sakizo tights use a similar shade of purple as an accent colour. Check Lorina Lidell to see if they still have any in stock? The patterns may not match the rest of your theme, though.

Gold is nice and trendy, but maybe working blue in would be better. If gold has to be in there/you already have plenty of gold items, perhaps make it the secondary colour.

It's a gorgeous dress, just hard to coord.

Personally, I would go all out and go with a medieval looking crown. I would also go for more elegant shoes, such as oxfords. Because the print is gold and I'm nitpicky, maybe just a plain black bag or one with gold accents? And I would ditch the tights and go for some either black lacy ones or plain black ones, since you want the print to stand out.

I'm having the most ridiculous time with this dress. The red is different than any other red I have in my wardrobe, I want to be able to show off the sleeves and am torn on whether or not this dress could be worn blouseless, etc, etc.

I think lacy black tights would look good with this dress, and I would go with either a Greek tiara or a chain headdress if you want to go slightly OTT with this.

Thanks anon! I've been tearing myself apart over this dang dress. I love it so much but it's harder to coord than I thought it would be. I was leaning towards a greek tiara or chain headdress as well, but the dress has no bronze in it, closest is silver so I'm searching for something I like in that. I wanted to do some nice boots, maybe oxfords or pointed toe calf boots but don't know if they'll match if I do a more greek headdress.

Honestly, some might disagree but I think this would look really cute as a summer dress with no blouse.

I was wondering if it would work with a bolero over the JSK and under the collar, but I just photoshopped it and it looked weird so maybe not. The only other thing I can think of would be maybe a blouse with those neck ties that cross over the chest. These might be dumb ideas though.
