I actually just got a pair from Bodyline (P230) that was only $10 and isn't terrible. Not a bad starter piece. Also check ClosetChild, pants can be pretty reasonable since ouji isn't as popular. I got a pair of Jane Marple shorts for 4800 yen that are really nice. I've seen some for as low as 2000 yen, usually Putumayo or other more punk-ish brands but a lot of pieces can work.

Ah, I'm not entirely sure on that, sorry. They do come in different sizes and the ones I got are puffy shorts, so they're meant to be big in the hips. They seem pretty neutral to me but I don't have a masculine body so I can't say for sure.

I just ordered a pair of their birdcage puffy breeches but I did them custom so it'll be a while before I get them. From what I've seen of F+F in person I'm not really impressed by their quality, but it's also really hard to find ivory/white puffy pants so I figured I'd give it a shot. They do have separate mens and ladies sizing so it seems worth a shot.

Ouji, I'm a grill and it's cuter on us. Guys should generally stick with aristo though, it's a little offputting to see a grown-ass man in what's essentially children's clothes. Unless they have a cute face it doesn't work well.

Sailor, always and forever, but I'm also a big fan of straight, classic, black vest and shorts ouji. Oliver Twist type stuff is cute too but I don't kno if that can really be considered Ouji.

Solids. I'm partial to things like >>8340499 where the majority is solid and then there's a recurring pattern in the accessories. I also just really like the harlequin pattern. Subtle patterns like the coat in >>8340488 are gorgeous too.

I generally wouldn't for lolita, but I think it's not a bad choice for ouji. I've never bought from F+F, but I've seen it in person many times, and the issues with their clothing are usually weird fabric, shitty lace and ribbons, or poor design. Since ouji tends to have fewer embellishments and plainer fabric, F+F might make good stuff for it (I say "might" because I've only seen dresses in person).actually makes decent stuff for it.

Also depends on the styling to an extent. I wear IW long length dresses as 'higher-hemline' aristo, the way I see it, it's a more every-day take. Details such as makeup, jewellery, hair, choice of blouse - such as going for more mature blouses with cravats or jabots -, footwear, not going for a super-poofy petticoat, etc, all make an outfit with a lolita dress come across as aristo more than lolita, in a hybrid style. 'Aristocratic lady at lunch' is the sort of look I go for when doing this. It's elegant, and mature, without the inconvenience of floor length hems when it's raining. More subdued colour-schemes, i.e. refraining from really busy prints, etc, also helps. Mixing IW an Atelier Boz works fantastically. :)

Forgot to add that full length femme-aristo can be worn as an 'every-day' style, as long as it's quite toned down in terms of accessories, hair, makeup, etc. It can be worked into a nice, fairly corporate-goth type look, with the little details differentiating it from Western corporate goth.

I really hope ouji continues to increase in popularity. It's so hard to find good pieces and good coords in the west. It deserves more attention than it gets.

something people often say, in this thread survey and in other places, is you should not attempt ouji if you cannot look like a cute young boy. however, lolitas work hard to distance themselves from the "dressing like a little girl" stigma. i do not yet know what to make of this.

Most Ouji does not look like that and if it does I'd say it's riding on the edge to aristo. Ouji does look more boyish because of the different pants (poofy and/or shorter), often more feminine blouses (peter pan collar and frills) and hair styling (mid length hair and fringe).

a lot of ouji is closer to rococo menswear, if we're talking historic influence. after a while short pants did become a marker of boys' clothes, especially in regards to uniforms (school, Scouts, etc.) while it became less acceptable for a man to not wear full length trousers.

So in general, what is the Ouji community like compared to say, the lolita community? Is there more or less of an inclination to be a lifestyler? I get the feeling it's more silent and serious and potentially elitist than Lolita. That's just unfounded assumptions from images though.

Idk if I would call it a comm, not a lot of people, very scattered and the closest thing is the PoP situation which is a bunch of 'well known' people coming together. I feel like they are elitist, and they probably have a lot of drama that they just dont talk about because it is a lot of big personalities there.

It is also easier to figure out how to wear this stuff daily, although I dont think many people wear it in a lifestyle way because it is still odd.

also met someone in lolita who told me she usually wore boystyle and she loved my (offbrand/handmade) outfit. i don't remember her name. she was fun to talk to as well, only my social awkwardness got in the way.

I have a lot of silver or pewter rose and wolf stuff, so I was thinking about getting a sort of eathy brown and green thing going on.. but it's hard to find anything colourful. Mixed greys to go all the way with the wolf theme could work too, but I haven't seen any grey that isn't plaid or a schoolboy-esque.

I think have subtly embroidered wolves or something would be really cool. Until then these edgy accessories are going to sit in my drawer.

The worst part is that just before my order arrived and I found out my blouses were too small, they doubled the price of it all on their website, otherwise I would have just bought another larger for under $30. so far i have stuck to the main boystyle brands, buying second hand. i have a BPN for Men blouse that's swallowtail like your Bodyline, and it does the same awkward flare at the waist (too short for my torso). but it was like $20 with shipping if i remember right, and still has tags so i'm hoping to replace it and resell.

I got P230 (mentioned here >>8340598) and they're not bad for the price. Buttons are definitely cheap, and the fabric is probably a little thin, but I'd say they're workable. Though, the shade of black is slightly off from my other pieces, it's only really noticeable in certain lighting.

I think bringing in gold would be fine, as long as you keep it balanced. If you're the same anon as in >>8346956 then I'd say keep the vest (it's not in the collage). The black bow I'm assuming goes on your neck and if so is probably too much since the blouse has a jabot and ruffles already, plus the necklace. the sizing doesn't differ a huge amount, i just take whatever i can get my hands on and squeeze into the ladies sizes, it's usually just a bit tight at the shoulders. i'm pretty small though, it probably depends. i have 49cm shoulders but i can get into stuff 10cm smaller without much discomfort.

I would suggest looking at what Ghostintheforest does. She is pretty damn tall. It also depends on your proportions, as you may have a long or short torso/legs and that is more important than height itself on the fit.

For this set in particular, I'm able to fit the jacket and pants being 5'7''. There is a tiny gap as I have rather long arms. I don't have the largest legs but be warned, if you're taller, some trousers may sit higher than intended meaning if you have large thighs, you're gonna have a bad time.

I'd also recommend GhostintheForest as she is tall, and her tumblr is good as she gives brands that obviously fit and work for her height in her breakdowns
