So promote some good ones. People keep saying we should have threads to showcase lesser known cosplayers who are in it for the craftsmanship and enjoying the hobby, but they either die quickly or devolve into drama.

Why is jnig bitching on Instagram. Something about hard work and she's a real cosplayer and shit.

I've heard the "well I shoot this person because we're friends" excuse many times when their motives are so obvious. It's pathetic. If these people are going to be this way then fine that's their business. However if they think they are fooling everyone their delusion is pretty exponential.

Thats the whole point. People who are out to get famous will do what it takes, T&A, latest sexy costumes etc, while others who do it because they enjoy the hobby itself are not bothered by not being known. Infact, some good cosplayers rather have very few loyal fans than thousands of neckbeards.

MLZ's Katsu videos were a little disappointing. So much time devoted to every one of JNig's stupid eevolutions and Yaya's cosplays, it's pretty obvious that the people who buddy up to coswhores are mostly doing it for their own sake. I love seeing amateur, or at least slightly lesser known cosplayers featured. Because I'm going to see those eevolutions on every website. I'd rather see something new.

I'd like to think that people are starting to see that there are way more better cosplayers than her now. I'd see cosplayers like Nadyasonika and they're not just sexy but they also make really good stuff and you compare that to Jnig's lackluster gijinkas and you get to tell who's really doing work.

The elitism and favoritism in both MLZ Katsucon videos is disgusting. There were so many talented cosplayers there who are unknown but didn't make the video because they aren't "Cosplay Famous." I'm not saying these cosplays aren't good, but there were very few cosplayers I didn't already know of and there were way more impressive costumes at this convention that were done by unknown cosplayers.

I noticed this during Katsucon this past weekend. I didn't try to seek out the guest cosplayers or most popular cosplayers for pics. It's usually my own friends that appreciate my pictures that I want to photograph. I don't bother looking at videos after a con.

I've worn outfits that have gotten me stopped every 5 steps and you pile it with photoshoots and I barely have any time to just enjoy the con itself and feel super tired. History lesson for you newfags: When JNig started cosplaying Yaya was the "queen" of the cosplay side of the convention scene because she was the most well established and most prolific cosplay guest at cons. Miyu was the reigning "queen" of the cosplay community's internet gossip scene and fanboy blog posts because of her looks. By observing who was popular at the time (around 2009) JNig figured out that what she needed to do to be successful.

Yaya's networking skills were unparalleled and Miyu's looks were unparalleled. JNig copied aspects of both of them. She overtly copied Miyu's aesthetic and Yaya's self-promotion tactics. She realized Miyu was considered the "hottest cosplayer" so to compete she needed to have abs and tone down her overly orange fake tan. JNig wasn't as attractive or fit as Miyu so she had to draw attention away from her face. She added cleavage to everything, just like Yaya had been doing.

To compete with Yaya she had to do a lot more work. It required some serious self-promotion and networking. Yaya is a shrewd business woman. She was able to make strategic alliances within the community as well as turning her crafting skills into a way to turn a profit in the dealer's room. At the time she was the first cosplayer to start selling signed prints of herself. Not only did JNig copy Yaya's methods of detracting from her face with her style of eye makeup, she also copied Yaya by getting implants. She copied Yaya's print-selling routine (and many other cosplay girls followed suit).

Most cosplayers don't know how to apply make up well. Lots get all their make up advice from tumblr posts and youtube videos showcasing drag queen make up techniques and the rest they take from early 90s Penthouse styling. So you got Nigri with the racoon eyes, Yaya with the tranny contouring, Lindsay with the pornstar foundation.
