Working on a Jack Frost gijinka. I thought I could translate the hat thing he wears into a capelet...but I'm really not that happy with how it looks. The dress underneath I'm pretty happy with, but I'm going to have to fix the capelet somehow. Or scrap it and do something different.

Undersuit of this Aldnoah.Zero pilot uniform is done, minus some messing with the legs that I'll do closer to Katsucon. Need to make the neck airbag, fake those boot closures, and order webbing/buckles/slides for the harness.

Haha the dress is a mismatch of different patterns. The bodice is Burda 7012, the sleeves are just puffy sleeve pattern I had laying around and the skirt is just a circle skirt. The collar was patterned by me.

I'm working on Homura's devil outfit from MM: Rebellion, and I just finished sewing all the layers of tulle to the skirt and gathering it! So excited with how it's turning out so far! A bit nervous about the wings: I'm hoping to make them articulated so I can get through crowds easily but still having the option to open them for photos...

I used Simplicity 9142, a jumpsuit pattern from the '70s. I thought the jumpsuit pattern would be fairly formfitting through the torso and thighs, but nope, pic related is what it looked like before I took it in.

Working on Grell Sutcliff's trench coat for a friend. Worked on patterning and cutting out fabric yesterday as well as a majority of the sewing. I did a bunch of nit picky shit today, tacking everything down and just making sure it's all sitting as it should. It's lined with the same fabric and this was pretty god damn easy to put together. I really can't complain.

All it really was was the good ol' heat 'n bend like you would with any craft foam. I used the biggest pipe I could find at my hardware store to use as a cylindrical bending form and just used a couple of sheets with seams sealed with epoxy clay.

It's my first time making a costume which is so intensive with the prop side. I'm good with fabric, but haven't done anything like this before.

I don't have any good pics of it right now, but I've rigged the inside with LEDs so the portholes glow in the dark.

I made a leotard using simplicity's 1444. I then put it on, drew out the shape I wanted, and cut it accordingly, with many test fittings along the way to make sure it was exactly as I wanted it.
You can't really tell in the picture, but I used glittery tulle on top of it to give the piece a really interesting effect. To do that, I put the finished leotard back on and had a friend pin and baste the tulle to the leotard (while it was still on, just to clarify). Then I went and zigzagged the tulle and lycra together along the edges!

This time, I'm custom crafting the helmet on my mobile ginn, rather than work around an existing helmet, like I did with my Geara Zulu. I the inner ribs around which i will spray expanding foam, which I will sculpt and sand down to a nice spherical shape and coat with fiberglass resin. My plan is to get the helmet shell to at least 5mm thickness, maybe thicker.

Thanks! It's a shearling minky. There's a thin layer of batting in the trim which is what's making it look fluffy instead of sunken. Warning: the little fluffs get EVERYWHERE.

Paper helm is just for testing the fit and getting the scale right. The final version is %100 pvc

Not really happy with the gold finish on this. Paint also built up a bit heavy in a few places. Will likely strip it and try with automotive paints instead.

PVC material I have doesn't seem to sand to mirror finish very well. Tried sanding even at 2000 and finishing with a polishing attachment for my drill still wasn't enough to get the ultra bright reflective finished I wanted.

what i got so far. minus the helmet and huge-ass backpack thingie, the upper body is done. clean up will be at the end, right before paint prepping.

since the helmet isnt close to being ready, i used the (bike) helmet from my first cosplay, my crappy zaku II. the left bicep is a bit janky so i will have to modify the strap inside. the right one is already modified but may need adjustments.
the things jutting out of the armor skirt are just place holders i will cut out later when i make small parts like the sword holder on the skirt

You really need to go over that fabric painting at least 2-3 more times, it looks really bad right now. If you can, get a ruler out and clean up those stripes. This is salvageable but will need some careful touch-up work with a steady hand.

The crest is waaaay too big. it looks like a gundam emblem in the spirit of Captain falcon. Also you should remake your scarf out of something that his flowy and light, not some sort of fleece.

First time ever working with Eva Foam, and it was pretty fun. I thought plastidip would be but, but holy fuck it's terrible I'm never working with it again. I adjusted a lot of the armor pieces that were wonky so it fits and moves properly. Next time I'm going to look into more detail on using worbla.

In all honesty it's really basic (not the good kind, the basic bitch kind), but its understandable since it is your first time attempting armor and with a material you've never used before.

In terms of actually improving whether it be next time or not, I'd suggest cleaning up your edges. A lot of it seems to be really blocky as well, specifically the lower torso, so take more time to shape your pieces when heat forming or constructing in general (use darts, etc).

With that, Shen is my favorite champion and my main and I'm glad your colors turned out alright. I wish you luck with your other projects.

There's a short cut to creating round pieces without doing the whole cutting process. Heat the back of the foam (while avoiding burning it) with a heatgun or torch and while it's still hot, push it onto something spherical (or whatever shape you need) and it will bend into and retain the shape once it cools in a few seconds.

Update on the robo arm, I finished the bracer. The arm is now complete. After I wear the cosplay in public the first time I'm going to upload my pattern for the entire thing online. Patterning is a bitch and the only other guy who's made a good version refuses to give out his pattern (only $550 USD for a foam/worbla commission from him though!.....) The entire thing cost me maybe $20 in leather and $10 in paints. I made the red parts on the hand out of 9oz veg tan leather, dyed with wood grain and then covered in red acrylic. The bracer is made out of 13-16oz leather and painted the same way. All the shaped pieces were wetformed and baked at 180F for 30 minutes to help them keep the shape under stress or any kind of punishment.

It all needs a couple more coats of super sheen sprayed on it to give it a deeper luster. Other than that it's done.

Hyaku-Shiki rifle is pretty much done. Just needs paint and the gold power cable added to the top.

As far as my appearance/body shape and size, how close am I to Merida's father, King Fergus, from the movie "Brave?"

I would also like some tips gathering all the pieces of the costume, mainly the bear-fur cape. I assume hobby lobby or a craft store has faux fur, so I will likely use that.

Now, the tartan, according to the Brave Wiki, is impossible to weave with "traditional" kilt making methods, so for the kilt itself I will go with the Black Watch Tartan.

Unless you have any suggestions for a more accurate tartan.

And a particular kilt company I like (Celtic Croft) sells great kilts that are one big length of plaid fabric that makes a kilt, then the excess fabric acts as a sash.

Besides the above site, where's a good place get buy the great kilt? Or if I can get enough Black Watch Tartan fabric I might try to make my own.

I need a bit of help. I'm currently making Bilbos sword from the hobbit, and i'm currently making the blade nice and smooth and clean, But i'll be needing to etch the elvish pattern on to the blade soon, and i have no idea how to do that. What do you guys suggest? what would be the best way to tackle the etching? i have no practical knowledge of how to etch, and almost no tools aside from sculpting tools and sand paper.

Etching would only work on actual metal. You'll have to find a paint effect. People who make military models would have lots of advice

just paint it on, dude. You probably won't be able to carve it in, since the elvish letters on Sting look salient to me, at least near the handle.
When I made my Orcrist, I was facing the same problem but ended up just painting it on. Carving it would have probably ruined it, especially since I think you made it out of similar materials as I did.
Other than that, great job so far anon! Can't wait to see the final result.

I'd heat up a stamp tool for leatherworking with a lighter for a second and press it in to a scrap piece of the material and give it a whack with a hammer. Maybe that would work for you. Is it made out of foam? If it is gentle heat and pressing it in will work

I made the gloves using what I believe to be a cotton-spandex blend. (It came from a shady fabric store and the guy himself wasn't sure what blend it was) In any cases,the gloves were relatively simple to make, it`s just a top-bottom with a thumb; there`s no parts in between the fingers. For the leather parts, I just actually glued them on with hot glue. Might remake those with them properly sewn on instead for when I want to enter my costume in a masquerade.

I personally prefer epiccosplay whenever they have a wig I want. I know Ayumu's hair is kinda a weird bunch of colors...I usually prefer to see lighter greys on ayumu cosplayers though.

I made the hat before, if I remember correctly I made it kinda like a baseball hat with six pieces joining at the top. If you fuss with the widths it turns out nicely. Sorry I don't have any good pictures of it...
