I think it depends on the context.
There's been a lot of threads in which guys have posted, and their gender is actually relevant to the discussion, for example in skincare threads since a guy's skin is different from a girl's and shit.

The problem is when a guy decides to pull out the "btw I'm a guy XD" card in order to validate his opinion, or to make it more important or valid just because he has a penis, and this is a problem that happens in other boards where there's more males than females and vice versa.

That's also why threads tend to get derailed.

Most of these people are 'honestly not trying to cause issues' but will do so by responding to everyone, trolls, shitposters, everyone. It seems to be the number 1 cause of derailed threads as well. We don't need to be constantly reminded about internet famous cosplayers. I don't care that they look old or have bad skin or that they are overrated. We've been over it so many times.

Don't try and end arguments with trolls or stupid people, just relax and move on with your life.

Keep the sugar daddy stuff away. Cosplay and lolita are misunderstood and sexualized enough as it is. We don't need the public to assume we're all emotional or actual whores.

Having opinions about fatness or how cute a chubby person is shouldn't be labeled tumblr all the time. People have their own tastes. That being said, cut out the arguments about fat acceptance. /cgl/ can be super helpful, I love the beauty threads, and it can be surprisingly supportive from time to time. But the attitude sometimes makes me think of tween girls that just discovered the internet.

I saw the thread. When people sugggested etsy and taobao where the wristcuffs were less than $30 she still complained that wristcuffs were still too expensive and whined that they should be even cheaper.

It kind of throws people's kindness back in their faces as they had gone to the trouble of finding places for her and she acted like it was her God-given right to demand lower prices. At that point it was more her bratty responses than the actual price of the wristcuffs that set people off. I mean, whinge about the prices of wristcuffs all you want, but don't go demanding that sellers must drop their prices just because you say so, that's unreasonable.

I want /fit/ friday threads back, or a cosplay fitness general. This board's supposed to be about stuff relevant to the hobby, and we get a skincare/beauty thread and hair thread. Those both apply to the hobby but aren't detrimental, and I feel that getting into shape for a character is the same deal.

I was way more comfortable talking about getting abs for Cure Sunshine on this board than over at /fit/, and you guys took that away from me.

Fuck no, /fit/ has always given one-sided, shitty advice. They always assume any seagull trying to lose weight is a landwhale attempting to get smaller, nothing else.

- If you ask them about exercises for building abs they'll tell you you can't spot reduce, nevermind building ab muscles.
- If you tell them you want to get waif-like they'll give a spiel on how lifting won't build muscles if you don't do it for hours everyday, entirely forgetting that the girl asking for the advice could be already skinny and wants to look even skinnier.

Someone from there came over to make a thread. The first two, at least, were actually decent, useful and informative. The guy answering it had manners (or social skills) and was generally nice.

Then it started to go downhill. I don't know if it was the original guy who got fed up of repeat questions (new cosplayers were coming in and asking the same questions) or if others took over, the new people answering had limited knowledge, didn't want to admit it, and generally gave shit answers.

At the end it's mostly like what I described -- no actual questions being answered, instead you simply got ranted at in return.

/fit/ is shit. They would respond with "squats" and "lift heavy" for someone asking how to build abs. Because then they can seem like elite fitness experts with their bros. DYELs who have been on SS for 3 months thinking they know everything is about 75% of /fit/ population.

It actually used to be a good board. There was a lot of interesting discussions and great advice exchanged. But that was years ago and anyone who knew anything left as it steadily became a place for high school kids to share their "feels."

You don't have to, though a caloric surplus makes building muscle easier. During the initial phases a person can lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously quite easily. This is harder as one progresses.

There's also more to nutrition than "calories in vs. calories out" though it is important enough when it comes to fat loss to be repeated ad nauseum

Anyway, /fit/ is inded full of angsty faggots just as /cgl/ is full of bitter bitches and /r9k/ sad losers.

Okay here's how it works:
In order to build muscle, your body needs energy (calories). If you are meeting your daily requirements for energy, your body stays the same with a few tweaks here and there.

If you don't get enough energy, your body has to consume itself in order to keep functioning. It goes for your muscle and fat stores. Working out lets your body know it needs muscle, so you'll lose a bit less muscle if you workout while at a caloric deficit.

If you damage your muscles (by working out) and your body has excess energy (you've eaten beyond requirements), it can rebuild the muscle bigger and stronger. Your body won't go all out on muscle though, it will repair what it needs to and store the rest as fat.

So in order to get muscle mass, you have to eat above your requirements and incur the 'penalty' of a bit of fat.

Making significant gains while on a deficit is possible as the other anon said, but it is much more difficult and will take much longer. Definitely not the way to go if you're a novice looking to get in shape in a year for a con. Better to bulk and then cut. The amount of time doing either depends on how effectively you can lose fat.

That's the simple version.
Vitamins and minerals will improve how well your body does these things, that's why it's important to eat healthy.

/cgl/ certainly has its share of bitchy girls and trolls, so I don't understand why /fit/ keeps coming back. Thanks for the explanation on bulking and cutting, now it makes more sense to me when I see that term in random threads. A 'clean bulk' is a pretty good way to go if you are worried about fat, or already have a little. It involves eating barely above your maintenance, and will take much longer than just a bulk/cut cycle, but you will look better for the whole time.

Also talking with other cosplayers about fitness is way more rewarding than talking to /fit/, it made me feel like I was doing something with friends. The problem is that, to someone from outside of your community, "spot reduce" sounds like it's specifically referring to losing weight in an area, not building any sort of muscle. I don't think the two things are a uh separate peeve, I believed they're definitely connected and stems from cgls way to wear lolita as a special event sort of thing? I think few wear it outside of meets and cons and you probably only wear any given dress once or twice then sell it to attain the latest print. So, you tend to see any given coordinate for a dress as that person's one and only special coord for that dress and are annoyed at how they couldn't get everything just right for this special occasion.

As someone who wears the fashion, not daily but certainly not as this special even sort of thing it's such a peeve! I keep my clothes for years and over the years wear it a million different ways and some Coords are better than others but fuck it. If I can't think of at least 3 separate coords for a dress its not worth getting but most people seem to only have one coordinate for a dress?
