I wish I could rock CPK, but admittedly the rep of it has been ruined by those fucking peignoirs of tumblr.
And I still struggle to tell CPK and dolly kei apart sometimes, especially on the toned down and lighter dolly kei coords.

I can totally understand how it can be confusing, and these looks do overlap, along with mori kei. Best thing to do is familiarize yourself with each look by studying the aesthetic of each one and you will see that they each have certain features that distinguish them. I'll post some collages to try and demonstrate this, sorry in advance for the crappiness but I had to do them on my phone, so not sure how they'll turn out.

This collage is dolly kei, or at least the lighter outfits the shop girls have been wearing of late. I think it's important to acknowledge that not every outfit these shop girls wear would translate as dolly kei if say you or I wore it and tagged it as such online. To a certain extent they are just selling clothing and not necessarily the established dolly kei look. Pics with ① and ② under it could just as well be cpk as they have reoccurring cpk elements, Tokyo Bopper/RHS, and the all white/ off white colour scheme. In general a cpk outfit would have more layering, textures and accessories but not always. Pic ③ looks cpk as well however the vintage floral print brings it more in to dolly kei territory,
In general, dolly kei has a more mature vintage look to it whereas cpk tends to be a more dollyish (ironically) vintage look and uses more kawaii accessories sometimes with more sinister imagery such as doll heads or plain crucifixes.

Top row are examples of complex layering and textures that are definitive cpk.
Bottom row are The Virgin Mary shop girl (and shop owner/creator Ari) outfits that are definitely considered cpk by association but as said before, I don't think you or I could get away with tagging these outfits cpk if we wore them as is, maybe with more established cpk type accessories.

Last collage is to give you ideas for making a cpk outfit by showing reoccurring items or themes. Gingham (hair ribbons, dresses, skirts), teddy bears, sheer/transparent overgarments, Rocking horse shoes/platform footwear such as Tokyo Bopper, cableknit (or regular knit) sweaters or cardigans, usually cream coloured (in season now as its getting colder).

One more thing though. The dolly kei I'm used to seeing has more elements such as (faux)fur, tassels, belts, brass and leather accessories as well as floral and ethnic prints, whilst your example seems to lean more towards a toned down or a classic look, almost otome-like.
I'll post a row of what I mean, this pic being the one I always associate with when talking about dolly kei.

No problem! I forgot to mention hair and makeup; you can see from the collages that the hime cut with curled-under side bangs are a standard hairstyle worn alot in cpk (often worn with twin-tails, braids or loose). As far as makeup goes, the main distinguishing feature is the vivid blush often applied high on the cheeks or directly under the eyes. Not everybody likes this look but I think when done right it can be quite effective; done wrong and you can wind up looking clownish or like you got slapped so if you decide to go for this I'd suggest studying pics and experiment to see what suits you, in terms of shades, and amount used.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you and I hope someone else has better answer for you. My guess is that like many fashions, the dolly kei look evolved and changed somewhat (maybe to suit the Grimoire store owner's changing tastes?) The fact is, Grimoire is the store that pioneered dolly kei so all these lighter looks that the Grimoire shop girls wear are automatically considered dolly kei ny association. Grimoire verum hosiery aside, it's essentially a high end thrift store, the shop girls post photos of themselves wearing items they need to sell, and thrifting isn't always going to result in a consistently turn up the type of dolly kei items we're used to seeing maybe?

Oh I know exactly what you mean, the outfits in >>7777622 are alot more simplified and toned down than the dolly kei we've all become familiar with. I actually refered to it in my head as otome dolly kei when I was making the collage. I don't think anyone who likes trad dolly kei (feels wierd calling it that, but you know wbat I mean) should feel like because this is what's being put out by Grimoire at the moment that it's replaced the established look or anything however.

If I remember correctly, the photographer asked the guy in the photo and he refered to his outfit as 'kinari' which is a word for offwhite/ecru/eggshell type colour. I've seen alot of mori girls on codenote tag their off-white oitfits with the same term.
