This is really at the far end of the spectrum. I think once you reach this point, it is more than just eating and lack of exercise. There may be some underlying medical or mental condition.

I met someone recently who made her own clothes because she doesn't fit into brand. If she loves lolita that much to do it, let her and the other girls have something they enjoy.

On the other hand I am 150 and I feel very fat. This is really sad to say, but fitting into brand is one of the major reasons why I want to lose weight. I need to be happy in my dream dresses.

They're probably perfectly healthy in most cases. But so are a lot of those girls featured on the plus size side of things (the models are usually size 14 or around there.) People should be encouraged to love themselves and to love their bodies but I think the concept of loving your body has become distorted.

If a lady is of size and is genuinely happy, then that's great for her. There's no excuse for bringing someone down just because you don't like the way they look.

Just as if a lady happens to have minimal body fat or a high metabolism or any reason to be very very thin then it's unfair to label her as anorexic, or bulimic or otherwise inflicting herself.

There's a lot of variety in the human body in metabolism, cholesterol levels, hormones, emotions, especially so in women. We have the biological disadvantage where are bodies are geared to be squishy and protective of their contents.

But loving your body should mean that you love taking care of it.

And there are no benefits to being overweight.

You know...there are people that find a bountiful rolling landscape attractive and as much as I don't agree that's okay too. There will always be someone that finds you attractive...somewhere....in some corner of the world.

But there aren't any benefits. Not to clothes shopping, not to your health, no to your emotional well being. Because even if we ignore the media fat shaming, all the fat shaming that goes on and is encourage on here, all the looks you get when you sit down to eat out or walk into a store and everyone knows you're not going to fit into anything in that store that isn't elasticated. The majority of fat women eat themselves up internally and drowning them selves in self pity about how they're so upset.

Then they spend time going on the internet trying to make a pro-fat movement disguised as a love-your-body movement. Encouraging diversity of body types. And for a brief shining moment feel like they've achieved something. Really ladies, if you do this, stop. Go do some sit ups.

Weight is a very relative number. Muscle weighs more that fat. Different heights, different bone structures and densities (it does vary) and different exercise regimes can produce vastly different results.

What you really want to concern yourself with is your percentage of body fat.

Studies have shown women of the same height and measurements can vary in weight by up to and beyond 20lbs.

So don't hang too much up on the number itself. When judging yourself for your fitness take into account how long it takes you to get out of breath, your measurements and your weight to give yourself a more rounded idea of yourself.

When also considering percentage body fat, please keep in mind you're a women. The medically accepted healthy minimum of percentage body fat is 8-10%. Men can achieve 2% but they don't have breast tissue or a uterus.

Also, something of interest. Having worked with a lot of women and seen a lot of women's bodies (I work at a health and fitness centre) I see a lot of women panic and start thinking they're fat over things that actually transcend all weights.

You know you you twist at the waist or bend slightly and there's a crease at your waistline? That happens to everyone, it doesn't mean you're obese.

The bust strap of your bra cutting in a little? Feel like there's a little shelf forming underneath it? Everyone gets that too.

I understand anon. Boredom and stress snacking are very very common.

The solution is discipline. Trying once is easy, discipline is hard.

When you're bored and you find yourself reaching for a snack, drink a glass of water. Let it settle by finding something else to do. I know this is limited at work but there's always something, even if it's to go and fetch someone else a coffee.

After you've done that, if you're hungry, like actually hungry. Then eat your snack. If you're not, carry on occupying yourself.

It takes 6-8 weeks for the body to adjust to changes in routine and changes what it expects as an intake.

If you work in a kitchen, and you're bored, lift cans of beans if you're sat or standing around. I know you might think it looks silly but every little helps.

Also keep a food diary. Force yourself to be honest with yourself. And when you go to snack, you'll ask yourself more and more 'do I want this?', 'do I need this?', 'will I feel better tomorrow if I didn't eat this today?'.

Take it one day at a time, be brave for yourself anon. Good luck.

>>7763046
That's no excuse. I work in a kitchen too. When I first started working, my weight went up quite a lot but then if it's making you feel disgusting/miserable then take some actions! Either work out more to accommodate the snacking habit (although if your kitchen is anything like ours then I imagine you don't feel like a workout after being on your feet all day) or ensure you have some healthy snacks on hand. I snack a lot because stress, split shifts and long hours, and I managed to get my weight back under control by cycling to work instead of driving, doing some lighter exercise on my day off (swimming), and always putting a little tub of carrot sticks or something like that on the side. You'd have to check with your head chef though on that since some kitchens frown on eating due to hygiene but I find that it's helped me a lot.

fat privilege is getting your money's worth at an all-you-can-eat buffet

>> No.7763138

How do I get over all of the bad eating habits I developed growing up in a neglectful household? All of my eating habits were centred around the fact there wasn't enough food, so obviously they're terrible habits to have in an environment where I don't have to worry about it. Examples:

>I'm compelled to finish my plate regardless of how full I am
>I find myself organising the fridge and the cupboard hiding food I like the look of to make sure someone else doesn't eat it
>If someone leaves something I'll find myself picking at it
>Likewise "Does anyone want this? I'm gonna throw it out otherwise." I'll immediately react and eat it regardless of how full I already am
>I binge eat any nice food in one sitting
>I cannot stand the feeling of being hungry and will immediately eat to make the feeling go away.

I've gone up from managing to maintain around 100lbs on scrounged food to 125lbs (I'm 5'1) and climbing because of these awful habits.

A lot of the time thirst is confused for hunger. What is your water intake like anon? As suggested for the above anon, when you find yourself going to the fridge just to snack have some water instead. Then go find something to do, put the washing on, having a shower, re-arrange a book shelf. If after having a drink and a bit of activity, if you're still /hungry/ then eat something.

Keep a food diary to measure what your calorie intake is like every day. Then try planning out what you're going to eat in the coming week and only buy what you've planned to eat. If it's not there, you can't binge on it, you can't pick at it. The on-again-off-again, fast-day-feed-day type diets have shown good results so far so you could have a day where you eat the leftovers in the fringe if the next day is followed by something like 500-1200 calories. But I'm not a medical professional or nutritional specialist so don't take that as the gospel fact.

With regards to finishing a plate, this is a hugely common problem. One way round it is to buy smaller plates. Or actively put less on the plate. Creative solutions to portion control.

Good luck anon.

Thanks anon. I guess my actual water intake is probably lacking, though I almost always have a massive mug of tea.

Ah, that's all excellent advice but unfortunately I'm still not in control of what food is bought. I live with my boyfriend and his family. This is one of the reasons it's been so hard, I went from somewhere I'd never experienced a full fridge or cupboard to somewhere the fridge is constantly bursting with delicious food. Not only that but my bf is actively trying to gain weight, so there are a lot of highly calorific snacks about because he's a lazy person who doesn't eat when he's hungry. We're well matched, lol.

I did use myfitnesspal for a while, but I found that having to actively track what I was eating made me more obsessive, to the point where it was all I'd think about all day.

Unless you exercise a lot. That's not how it works. You don't have a fast metabolism. Being able to eat a lot one day doesn't make you fat, nor does it mean lel muh metabolism because you didn't gain weight for being a fatty a few days out of the month.

The thing about Asians is that they tend to gain fat underneath their muscle in their torso as opposed to over the muscle.
This means you won't look as big as you would had that fat gone over your muscle, but it also means you have a higher risk of medical issues if you don't keep your waist/fat down to a reasonable size.

It's really hard. Instead, I'd highly recommend cutting down both soda and sweets gradually and substituting them with other things.

For example, let's say you normally drank three cans of soda a day (not saying you do, just an example). You could start drinking just two cans of soda and replace the third can with some fizzy, flavored water (or maybe some sweet juice). As you get used to this routine, you could cut it down to one can, and two glasses of flavored water, and keep gradually changing what you ingest until you're fine with just hydrating yourself with water and the VERY occasional sugary drink.

Good luck!

Take a deep breath anon.

As I said before, keep in mind your measurements, your % body fat and your fitness level before judging yourself. You might be 120 because of muscle, you might have a high bone density, you might have a cholesterol imbalance or any number of things.

If you want to try and shed 14-20 lbs try drinking more water. If you're eating 1200 calories that's not bad or a hell of a lot. But then again, I guess people like her probably don't do anything and just stay at home anyway.

It depends. Back when I was going to the nutritionist regularly, they were encouraging us to substitute our sodas and stuff with those waters solely because the artificial sweeteners used in them are calorie free so they won't make you gain weight. The research that has been done on those sweeteners used is also conflicting. I just know that Walgreens makes a peach flavored one that tastes just like peach Fanta and I'm hooked. If you're worried about the health consequences of artificial sweeteners but still want fizz and flavor try a mineral water with a bit of lemon. Lemon also has the bonus of being a metabolism booster.

They aren't 'bad' in the sense of 'this drink is full of sugar which contains a certain amount of energy (calories). The label says it has zero calories, it means it has zero calories.

They're 'bad' in the sense that if you drink too much of them, they give you the runs and you can get artificial sweetener poisoning - most case reports are in people who drunk half a gallon of diet coke a day for years.

Please go look at some decent nutrition websites, not just the first thing google brings up when you look for 'are artificial sweeteners bad'. I'm UK based, so the website I can recommend for decent basic information are the british nutrition foundation, healthy food guide magazine and the NHS choices websites.

Yeah we had sex ed every single year starting in 5th grade. like 5th and 6th grades were boys and girls separated with an hour long class once a week for three weeks. 7th and 8th is when they introduced birth control and condoms into the equation along with STIs, and how to practice safe sex so you're chances of getting an STI were decreased, then in 9th you got all of that stuff again and then more. 10th-12th grades is when they brought out the crack whores who were all HIV+ to tell you their life stories. Which honestly despite being really scare tactics-y they were still like go on and have sex, but be smart about it and don't let people control you or your body... I have no idea what education spending is like for our county but we were on a 5 point scale. I did go to high school with a lot of politicians kids so that may be a part of it... and I know that the top high school in the country was in our county I went there for one year but too many autistic people so I had to leave before I snapped.

Not the anon you replied to, but maybe try limiting junk food, do some yoga or Pilates, and drink a lot of water.

I absolutely love concord grapes. They have extremely bitter skins that most people don't like, so usually only their jelly-like middle is eaten. They're sucked out of the grape from the hole where the stem met the grape. It freaking tastes like jelly candy.

Regular grapes are alright because they're decently sweet, but they still have a slight bitter aftertaste. Concord grapes look like the beautiful, perfectly round, purple/blue grades in paintings, and they taste MUCH better and sweeter. I'd highly recommend them to anyone.

The only downside is that they're quite expensive... but so worth it!

Speaking of Pilates, my favorite workout channel on YouTube is Blogilates. The host, Cassie, is so sweet and super encouraging. Her videos are fun and during the routines she'll suggest alternative positions for a set if you're a beginner too!

10/10, would work out with again.

She's my favorite too! She's so adorably chatty, but damn do her videos work! I died the first time I tried to follow along.

Fuck eating like a goddamn shrew.

I did the keto diet for 4 months and went from 260 to 210. Had I not gone to vegas and shit up my diet i'd probably still be on a good track. Eating a lot and drinking was way too much fun.

Planning on starting back up though. Didn't really work out, just cut out all carbs and sugar. which left me with delicious meats and salads and fats.

Oh god, I know! I didn't think I'd feel so fucking dead and sore doing a pilates workout! You watch the videos, and it seems like "Oh, she's just lifting her leg up and down like 20 times, no big deal."

WRONG.

Man, it gets pretty intense. Who'd have thought working with just your body weight would make you so tired and sore...

I love pilates because of how elegant the moves are, and particularly because I feel that it helps with my flexibility when paired with yoga.

One of the big questions is always, what do you eat. So for the sake of comparison, how often do you guys order take out?

I only resort to it when I'm being social and we can't be bothered to cook or if we're at a con and fancy a night in rather than going out to find food.

And how often do you work out and what do you do?

I got to the gym and swim after 3-4 times a week and I do pole dancing once a week. Saving up for my own pole. It's crazy amounts of fun and I love how strong I feel doing it.

Avoid being disparaging of other people's tastes anon. There's no need for it. If you don't like fruit and veg that's okay.

Exactly! I couldn't believe the pain I was going through in the first few minutes.

I know, right? I was sore for 2 solid days after!

I should add yoga into my schedule this week. Hopefully I don't die. XD
