Nah, it's definitely on the rise because Free! and Nudist Beach are super easy found item, minimal crafting costumes. I'm not complaining. I live in CA so I've been seeing some great bods.

Pretty much this. Same goes for any cosplay really. If you have the bodytype of the character, you have a chance to look good. If you don't, it will be shit. Silhouette matters more than anything else, and the only people who deny this are delusional fatties.

There are actually male Free! cosplayers out there that cosplay out of love of the series and not for the attention? Most of my male friends that love sports anime weren't fans of Free (reasoning: it was more of a slice of life/drama involving friends that like swimming rather than an actual sports anime).

Yeah, it is pretty unfair. It's ironic all this time women got called attention whores for cosplaying scantily clad women but as soon as scantily clad male characters come out shitty guy cosplayers jumped ALL over that. They all look the same to me, I don't see anything wrong with either but they do all seem kind of easy and I probably wouldn't spend a lot of time talking to either group at a con. Plus so many of these cosplays are just lazy

The ability to hide threads has been a blessing, every time I go into one of the slut-calling threads I see a lot of shitposting, but not a lot of cosplay tear-downs anymore, so I think most real girls do hide these threads and let the men and trolls shitpost in them.
