Personally, I bought a brand blouse and never went back. I used to prefer BABY, until I got a skirt from them where not all the seams were finished. Their quality seems to be very hit or miss.

I'll never buy brand petticoats because you can get much better quality for much less.

Petticoats/bloomers, because nobody really sees these and who the fuck cares so long as it lasts and has good shape?
I tried a brand petticoat on in person and I was not impressed.

Also tights. I usually hate the designs and since I have thicker legs I know I can never pull them off. I'd hate to spend $30+ on them only for them to not fit or look like shit. Socks are okay though.
I also don't usually buy their gloves.

that print wasn't on any of the "washing info" posts on EGL. the tag recommended dry cleaning, but the only dry cleaner near me really sucks - no way will i trust them with any of my clothes again, loli or not. their service is like shit and the last time i used them i got my blouse back damaged (and unwashed).

anyway i knew i was taking a risk, did everything i could - vinegar, ice cold water, no rubbing, dried flat on laundry sheets etc. so please tell me what i might have left out?

prints are just so high maintenance for me. and it's not like i can read the laundry tag before buying because i'm not near a brick and mortar store. maybe if i move somewhere with a decent laundromat i'll change my mind.

I think the trouble most posters have is that you took your one sucky experience and made it a complete generalisation about the quality of every print, everywhere. Probably would have helped if you added one more sentence after that that said you know not all prints run but you can't afford to take a chance with any of it since your budget isn't that forgiving.

Anyhow anon, that was really terrible luck, my sympathies for the loss. I can understand that spending so much on a single item only to ruin it after the first wear is depressing.

If you do want to try again, some of btssb's newer stuff is more colorfast, especially the pastels stuff. I handwashed my first few btssb dresses because I had the same problem with drycleaners as you, the dresses came out all right. I still wear them every now and again but I've got a dobby that outsources to a fairly okay place near me now. Hope a decent laundromat moves near you soon.

>> No.7598576

I always buy off brand shoes, and I make my own pettis. Brand jewelry honestly isn't that great as far as quality goes, but I buy it anyway because it's cute. I wore bodyline for a straight 5 years before making the switch, and as soon as my fingers touched brand I sold every bodyline piece of crap I owned except shoes. Baby's shoes are horrible from what I've seen, and AP shoes are on par with SS and in some cases even bodyline. So not worth the price imo. I occasionally buy from the brands myself, because it feels really special getting a new brand piece, but most of my stuff is from cheap yj auctions.

>outerwear

Never burando:

Rest is 50/50 and depends on the item. I'm counting Taobao as non-brand here, btw.
For shoes I don't like to spend too much money on something I can't test out first, and the only brand shoes I really like are in a style that's generally available somewhere else. Jewelry is either second hand brand or offbrand finds. Other accessories are handmade. I prefer my socks and tights to be plain so those are also easy to find in other places. Skirts can be brand, Taobao or handmade.

I'm really tempted to splurge on some IW blouses (is that lucky pack ever happening?) but I worry that they won't look good on my 37cm shoulders. Same for cardigans and boleros. The items I can actually try on before buying are never lolita-appropriate, but spending good money on something that ends up not fitting is so depressing.

>- Things you always buy brand
There are no things were I would say that I would *always* buy brand.
Although it's more because I am a busty girl, and many things do not fit me; especially because I am into Classic, and MM, VM and JetJ will never ever fit my bust. Dat feeling... I am losing weight and hope to fit more skirts, but we were just not really meant for each other. So Taobao, Indie and Innocent Wolrd Size L it is.

I generally like brand clothes more. My first dress was from Baby, and from then on, I was never looking back. I had a few BL dreses, and sold them all because they just couldn't hold up the the standard I expected from Lolita fashion. I have some nice taobao pieces though. Inside of me is a raging brand whore, I admit. I even bought some brand jewellery and ribbons flower clips just because they were burando. I am currently looking for a brand parasol that isn't too expensive, and just bought a burando bracelet for the matching necklace I already own.

>- Things you will never buy brand
Shoes, because I know I will never fit them. Same with tights, I am just too tall and my legs too chubby. I wouldn't buy a petticaot, but I just reserved the IW chiffon underskirt Petti. B-but only because of the underskirt! I also tend to buy most of my accessoires offbrand nonetheless.

>- General brand vs. offbrand discussion
I usually prefer brand when it comes to clothes; but if I see a nice quality offbrand item, I won't pass on it because it does not have a brand tag. Accessoires and shoes I prefer offbrand mostly, but having a few pieces feels nice. You can add them to your normalfag clothes and still have a little Lolita feeling.

I don't mind offbrand at all, but I hate the attitude some people, especially newbies and fatties, develope regrding brands. "evil and expensive!!", "Why does burando not make skirts for my 140cm waist?? ;_;", "Once you're over a size 10 you will never fit brand!", "Elitist brandwhores!!!" and shit like that.

Bloomers and petticoats, stuff that won't be visible, I'm actually starting to think on getting some brand shoes if the shipping wouldn't kill me.
I love brand, I wish my comm would increase it's love for it too. It has a couple really well dressed burando wearing girls, but also a lot of bodyline weebs. There is also an okay taobao middle group, usually girls that could dress well if their size wouldn't get in the way.

>> No.7598667

Please dry clean your brand prints! You don't even have to take it to a dry cleaner, just use a Dryel home dry cleaning kit (all you need is a dryer). Don't blame the brand if you went against their cleaning instructions.

What is too expensive for a parasol? If you can find them in stock, they're rather reasonable in price IMO.

>Things you always buy brand
I wouldn't say there's anything I totally exclusively buy brand because I do buy indie; but 'mostly brand' would apply for main pieces (dresses and skirts).

>Things you will never buy brand
Shoes, jewelry, pettis/bloomers. I haven't been impressed with the quality of floral accessories from brand either, I actually like etsy and other handmade ones I've bought better so I'd say those as well.

>In general
I like buying offbrand for a lot of things, blouses, tights and most accessories for example. Vintage finds are some of my favorites for hats/jewelry/gloves and the like, as well as good handmade headwear and jewelry. The victorian trend from 3-5 years ago was a great boon to find used or never used loliable blouses on ebay etc.

I really love classic brand blouses as well, if I were to totally overhaul my blouse stock it would be just IW, VM and offbrand blouses, probably. Aside from a few pieces I still have my eye on and shoes, I'm done with ordering from Bodyline, it's just too meh in fit and style. I keep buying brand OTK's because I like the designs but then I never wear them because I prefer the coverage of tights and they're too cold for our winters but too warm for summer... I wish brands would put out more of their OTK designs as tights as well.

Main pieces. Well not always, I own one indie skirt and two Bodyline pieces since Mr Yan was supposed to come out. But the cocaine was much to appetizing I suppose. I'll probably sell one and keep the other. I like collecting brand dresses and prints. I really do like indie and taobao things, but I kind of feel like if I buy them, they're going to end up being sold quickly down the road in favor of a brand piece I want.

I also really like brand socks. I've owned some plain offbrand OTKs but I prefer a slight pattern (or the matching socks) rather than just a plain block of color. Not opposed to offbrand/indie tights though since they're cheaper and not quite as limited edition as brand tights that'll get holes or snags for $50

>Maybe
Brand shoes. IDK, If I'm paying that much for shoes, they'd better be some Vivienne Westwoods. Though I suppose having some 2nd hand brand shoes would be a good idea if I ever go to any events. Either that or I'd just wear offbrand.

>Never

>General
Blouses: I prefer brand blouses. But it's hard finding the right cuts and sizes that'll fit properly on a bigger bust on the 2nd hand market. The price new is a little to steep for me. I like to keep my blouses around the $40-80 price range.

I own some Meta and AP blouses as well as a few Baby tops and I really like them. But for some stupid reason I get more wear out of my Bodyline blouses.

Most prints you can color fast it with vinegar and cold water. You can also handwash and have a bit of control of the color running off and changing the water as you go for the first few washes.

The thing that drives me up the wall is BTSSB black and whites anything, even solids, they run and make the white parts slightly grey. Even though I washed it by hand, it ran like hell for a solid color.

Honestly though, I find even pieces within the same brands hit or miss for me in terms of quality. Like really gorgeous prints that stay, weaved in patterns versus prints bleeding and boarder prints not matching well at the seams.
