Why has /cgl/ gone so stale? It seems that we just recylce the same topics over and over again

>Help and Tutorial threads
>Fandom photo dumps
>Who should I cosplay
>Self post
>Progress threads
>Convention threads
>Bad cosplay
>Weeaboo horror stories/cringe

While I do think the drama back then was old and the circlejerking was a pain in the ass, there was a greater variety and silliness in the threads posted back in the day. There was a silly pun thread where people made bad jokes that accompanied photos that were posted, closet cosplay challenges where you had to use whatever you own to bullshit an outfit. The point I'm making is that we had more "active participation" threads that required more of us than to just simply talk about and show our cosplay plans. Cgl just feels so passive and same-y as of lately and I wonder what caused this to happen. Sure the tripfags left and there was a cut down of drama, but wouldn't that encourage the silly threads to pop up more since they weren't being drama bombed?

>> No.7351754

If you want an active participation thread, post one. Besides, this board caters to a niche hobby, there's only so much to talk about.

>> No.7351758

There have been a few closet cosplay threads in the past few months.
As for the rest, idk, I've been frequenting /cgl/ for only a little over a year and stick mostly to the lolita side of things.

>> No.7351763

>>7351758
This is why /cgl/ is so boring. An influx of newfags from tumblr and the fact that the board is now 90% lolita.

I like help and tutorial threads, and I like bad cosplay threads. Lolita's contribute nothing to this board.

>> No.7351841

>>7351763
hey! come on now, that's not fair to say.
lolitas contribute a lot. just because it's not what you're interested in doesn't invalidate it.
we have sewing/crafting threads and share resources on where to find offbrand and taobao links. we have buy&sell threads where girls can purchase items, we have draw threads with original content, we have event threads to discuss things like Misako visiting the states! or the Bodyline BBQ. we even made Lovely Horse Derpy-Chan a thing. ita threads aren't all we're here for.
I mean, if that's the way you're going to be, what have cosplayers contributed to the board culture? because all I can think of right now is Jessica Nigri's notoriety and more tripfags than I can shake a stick at.

>> No.7351856

>>7351763
I'm a cosplayer and a lolita so you need to shut up. There are tons of newfag cosplayers that come here and ask 1 question in a new thread about 1 simple thing. We have tons of newfags all around, not just in lolita.

>>7351841
You are not fucking helping anything with your stale topic list. Derpy-chan? Seriously? That's from 2 years ago.

>saying it's not fair to blame lolitas
>trying to blame cosplayers instead
Stop that.

>> No.7351870

>>7351763
Being both, every time I see cosplayers whine about too many lolita threads, I go take a look at the catalog and laugh.

Bitch, please, it's maybe a quarter lolita-specific threads. Maybe.

>> No.7351872

I recall an ita thread awhile back which summed up the /cgl/ experience:
>anons posting images of itas/plain coords
>anons promptly “critique” the images back making obvious statements
>Fattychans are gross!
>Ew, she looks dirty!
>She has an unfortunate face
>pat themselves on the back that they are being “helpful” for having these threads
>At one point anons start to get lucid and self-reflect that they would be mortified if someone ever posted an image of them in an ita thread
>continue to jeer about fattychans and itas for the rest of the thread

The assholes and bitches that reside in /cgl/ and take pride in the fact that this place is notorious for being cruel and catty. But are also afraid of the beast that is /cgl/ and wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of their childish habits.
I can’t wait for the option to be anonymous on the internet to disappear. It really creates more harm than good. Plus, it would give the opportunity for people to defend themselves if their picture is being blasted on here and they get to know the images/face of his/her trolls. People can stop acting like sociopaths hidden behind the mask of anon. Or at least if they continue their terrible actions, it can reflect back to their family/job.

Unless the playing field is level and everyone can see everyone’s information/faces there isn’t a problem. But people cling to their anon mask so damn tight so they can continue to be hairy anuses.
As proof by the “top tier co-ords/outfits” where anons continued to tear apart relatively good coords/photos. People are still going to bitch about something even when the cosplayer/Lolita is next to perfect.

Same thing happens even on identity. I'm more afraid to post on Tumblr than here because while I'll get slag for a few posts here, it's nothing compared to the utter shitstorm I'd get from SJW for saying that you can be racist to white people. I know, because I've both posted SJ shit here and not so SJ shit on my own tumblr.

I'm not saying that either is inherently worse than the other though. Both are pretty bad and have terrible consequences, and in the end, it seems to be the same hive mind when the arguing stops and the hacking/doxxing begins.

I hate drawthreads now because they were nice before but now when people draw art of the lolis people shame them if it's not amazing or doesn't look commission quality. What the hell is even the point of doing that?
It's free art and people are drawing it to be nice and shouldn’t get shamed if what they draw isn’t amazing.
I drew art that people liked and even got asked what my Tumblr is, but seeing other people's art get rude comments and insults really made me mad. If my art wasn’t good, people would turn on me in an instant and shame me too. That’s really low considering all the art is free and people are taking their time to draw your frilly asses.
Since Monday there have barely been any posts in the draw thread, I hope that the draw threads slowly start dying. The way anons are rude to people who are taking their time to contribute and draw people is complete bullshit.

You sound like you've just ventured into an ita thread once and made knee-jerk assumptions about the entire subculture.
Are you the same person as >>7351763?
because those bad cosplay threads that you enjoy so much and come here for are basically the exact same thing for cosplayers as ita threads are for lolitas. there will be people who are just there to point and laugh at the ugly people, but there are also girls who take the time to write out constructive criticism and offer advice. they're not 100% toxic, good change comes out of it more often than you would think.

because that just means the assholes win.
drawthreads are one of our few nice things, you shouldn't give up just because others behave without courtesy. if everyone just quit drawing the moment they were criticized then we would never have any great artists.

On the cosplay side of things, the topics here are topics that can be discussed anywhere. There are so many places to discuss cosplay that everything gets stale because of it.

/cgl/ having drama made it stand out as a community because no other community allowed drama. The drama sparked other discussions, like JNig's bikinichu got people talking about closet cosplay.

There are also a lot of new places to have discussions. Tumblr and facebook specifically. Tumblr has the drama, the long discussions and detailed posts. Facebook allows for networking in a specific area, for a specific convention. We're also at a point where a lot of people want recognition, and so anonymity is not as big of a draw. Bitching on your tumblr can give you more followers.

/cgl/ has changed. It's no longer about drama, rivalries, or circle jerks. It's an endless series of social justice, fought by tumblrfags and teenagers. Mods, and their consumption of fun, has become a well-oiled machine.

/cgl/ has changed.Trip tagged users create trip tagged post, use Trip tagged names. Drama mentality within their minds enhance and regulate their posts. Lolita control. Cosplay control. Drama control. Post control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control.

/cgl/ has changed. The age of rumor has become the age of justice . All in the name of averting butthurt from tumblr fags and crybabies. And she who controls the drama, controls /cgl/

/cgl/ has changed. When the message board is under total control, /cgl/... becomes routine.

I like the no-drama rule because it brings me back to why I'm here in the first place. My two favorite hobbies, lolita and cosplay. I know I can trust honest advice to whether this blouse should be offwhite or white and if my latex wounds look real or more like I spat on my arm.

Here, I can find tutorials on how to make props.
I can find patterns for lolita and cosplay alike.
I can buy new clothes off of the BST threads.
I can figure out how to navigate taobao and actually find what I want.
I can learn the difference between a scam and a deal.

The drama was fun, but it was kind of taking over my life. I was spending more time in my pajamas in front of the computer laughing about what PT said this time about her windchime than in a JSK in front of my sewing machine.

I get my fill of drama with snippets from BtB, but it doesn't drive me to find the girls' blogs, figure out every little thing about them, and discuss theories about their lives. It's just a breath of cattiness and then I can get back to what I love.
