First real cosplay, but I can tell from the photo that I must have badly shooped it for some reason. (If I had to guess it was probably due to the horrid acne I had back then.)

I made this femme hellboy cosplay super last minute to go get drunk at a small con. I succeeded in my goal to get drunk and have fun but then it rained and the paint on my horns melted into my hair ;_____;

I re-wore this a couple months ago for a pokemon event that I found out about the day before and just dug it out, lol.

Looool. The construction on the main dress was meh, but the bloomers exploded halfway through the first day and were held together by baby pins. I had no wig, and no makeup on. My shoes were some shit I bought at payless that I attached ribbon to.

Oh god, this is exactly how my first cosplay went back in 2008. Bought the outfit from a seamstress at some Asian mall, no wig, and carried around a Kon doll. I have no pictures of myself at the time but I still have the outfit somewhere (it's extremely really well made so I can't bear to throw it out even though I don't follow Bleach anymore).

Luffy, back in 2005. That vest was the first thing I ever sewed in my life (2-3 sizes too big, loose threads everywhere) and the flag was hot-glued felt. Also I made this costume for Katsucon and it was cold as fuck.

My mom made me a Quistis costume in 9th grade. I lived in a tiny town with no cons and very few nerds. No one know what the hell I was doing. Still pretty sure it was worth it though. My mom used to make things like Star Trek uniforms, so when I wanted to dress up from a video game she totally understood. Which is awesome.

Goddamn this is still embarrassing to look at. It's supposed to be Rinoa from FF8.
My boyfriend at the time loved this game and wanted to dress up as Squall so he convinced me to dress up as her and then bailed the last minute the week before Anime North. I knew nothing about FF8 but wore it anyways.

The dress thing I made in my home ec class and I was so damn proud of it (The fabric choice was SO WRONG. I wish I had a shot of the wings on the back). No wig, no zippers on the shorts, skirt was one I found at Value Village and I sewed a couple buttons on it. And the arm warmers are just socks my friend dyed for me.

I've "done" my first cosplay back in 2008. It was for a Vampire Doll Guilt-Na-Zan cosplay group. I failed miserably to closet coordinate Tonae Yotobari because I commissioned to a local custom dress shop, but right after buying the fabric when that lady agreed, she denied it because it was for Halloween.

The costume is soooo pretty IRL and pictures don't do it justice. But here's a bonus pic which shows the bodice and skirt better. I had the ruffles up because I was having a fibro flare up and it hurt my skin.

I was 13 and it was my first con so I suppose it was 2007 at A-kon. This is probably my second cosplay. My first was Sakura from Naruto but I can't find any pictures of that. Thank god.

I did this for PAX Prime last year. I know it's shit but my boyfriend said I couldn't learn to sew in a month so I had to try... I did it far too fast and only wore it for like an hour haha. Don't have a picture of the full dress.

Oh I love this thread and the cosplay timeline threads. I wish I had gotten into cosplay sooner though. My first is only from a couple years ago. I was pretty proud of the skull which I made from model magic and the fact that I used rigid collodian to make the scar. Mother-in-law sewed the costume for me because I had no idea how to sew.

I used hot glue and safety pins. We didn't have a sewing machine, and I liked instant results at the time.

I bought a disposable camera and took pictures of my Rinoa costume from 1999, but those are sitting in a box in my closet. Not exactly top priority to dig them out to scan and share them with the world.

Thankfully, when I was a teenager saying/doing stupid shit and looking like an idiot we didn't have easy access to cameras for lasting proof or the internet to post it on.

My dad ran a BBS so the most access I had to looking like a fool was on those mailing list things. I got kicked off of an astronomy one once because I kept writing about how a Moon Kingdom could have been real. I met my first convention friend on one of those.

This was the first cosplay I made by myself. Of course at the time I didn't realize self timers were a thing, and I can't find my old coscom account to save my life.

Before this though, I was very overweight and my brother's friends stuck me into a Lucy (Elfen Lied) cosplay that was way too tight. Only one picture was taken and the guy who took it died and so he lost the domain. Doubt anyone would have seen it. My mom made me an Ino Yamanaka (that's the last name, right?) and the first time I wore it, I felt pretty badass 'cause I actually wrapped myself in the gauze. Don't think I was as badass as I felt, though.

American Mcgee's Alice, I think I was about 15~16 in this photo? No wig, no make up. Paid a friend of a friend waaaay to much money to make it. Pinafore wasn't even a seperate part of the dress, and instead just a white square on the chest and an attached apron.

I did that Alice too! Except it was really more of a Halloween costume than a cosplay. I was in 8th grade so it was Halloween 2007. I thrifted everything but the apron. The shirt and skirt weren't even the same blue, it looked sooooo bad! No wig either and I was a towhead. But I drew the pinafore, like a pattern, except my grandma really just cut around it and hemmed it.. splattered my red crayola paint brush pen all of it and puffy painted the pocket symbols.

Although I would suppose my **first** cosplay was for my 6th grade Halloween dance where I fuckin dressed up as my Yu Yu Hakusho OC. Yeah she was a cat demon (god damnit 6th grade me). It's based off the 2nd volume cover. I've actually got the series artbook and have really been wanting to cosplay from it again for nostalgia.

Lost all my EARLY early photos in a hard drive crash, so here's the earliest one I got. A chubby 17 year old girl will definitely look exactly like a bishounen with no binding and no makeup.

My belt is made out of duct tape lol. At least my shield was really cool. I learned that fabric is important and don't work on costumes three days before a convention. Also lost about 30lbs.

sadly....Ohayocon 2013. my mother was never a fan of conventions so I couldn't go until I was 18. My Vriska wouldn't have been that bad if I hadn't lost my gray button-up beforehand maybe. Pretty much the only thing I can take pride on is that unlike most Homestuck cosplayers, I actually took the time to make sure the grey didn't get all over my shirt and I fucking sealed it.

at my first Fanime, went as the Rogue on the right, loved this outfit

Oh man, no pictures of my first cosplay exist and good thing for it too; it was a very half-assed Poland (I didn't even watch Hetalia either).

My friend at the time wouldn't let me go to the con with her if I didn't cosplay something from Hetalia, so the night before the con I shoddily painted the Polish flag on a green t-shirt, pulled on some black skinny jeans and cheapass brown boots and called it a day. Stringy natural hair and all. It was horrendous.

Surprisingly, several people complimented my shirt and one person even recognized me. I don't even.

It wasn't a chrysanthemum, it was a cherry blossom (see picture). It's hard to tell from the tiny photo but that's what I put on my hat, not a star.

I've noticed that covering my eyes or using a mask reduces my fear of attention. That's probably why furries in their full-body costumes are always so touchy-feely and shit.

I just spent a good half hour trawling DA for the pictures from my first con in 2009. I forgot before everyone magically got DSLRs that most con shots looked like those blurry 'proof' photos of the Loch Ness Monster.

I gave up.

I always have issues with Protestants when it comes to Halloween, and I never had an issue until I moved to Florida. It really shocked me when I first encountered it because in NJ we had mischief night and then the debauchery of Halloween. It was quite an event in my town.

My first was Louise Valliere in 2009. Unfortunately debuted at Comic Con, not an anime con, so only 2 or 3 people recognized me.

I was so proud of this costume but I had never bought a wig before so I was too scared to cut the bangs or brush the wig at all. I was 13 at the time so my makeup skills were nonexistent and I didn't have contact lenses.

Had a blast at that first convention though!

I was really into Bleach as a teen. When I was 14 I went to a halloween party dressed as a squad captain. I was also a special snowflake so I made up a 14th squad. I found a gimmicky sword from a halloween store that would turn into a double bladed staff and called it my bankai.

There is only one picture, and it's on my old myspace page.

Let me assure you it was horrible and I wish I could slap 14 year old me.

I made my first cosplay out of duct tape... I thought it was an amazing idea at the time.

PFFt barely even improvement. I went to one con for the first couple of years then had mix of bought/made cosplays after that.

Pleinair was my very first handsewn cosplay cause I was too scared of a sewing machine.

Ugh. My first real cosplay was Sailor Mars in 2010. I used cheap costuming satin and I didn't have a sewing machine or any knowledge of how to make shit in general.

My first cosplay was Chen from Touhou.
I didn't really know how to do make up because I was like 14.
I don't feel it was THAT bad, but i did remake it recently.

My first costume wasn't that bad, but that ill fitting quilters cotton dress is just atrocious.

This picture says it all. Cosplayed Ed at MTAC 2006 with a cosplay half out of my closet and half made by my mom, entered a skit for the cosplay contest with my dad as Scar, and got Judge's Choice from Vic Mangina. Weeaboo dream jackpot at my first con. This was my prime "my hair is perfect for Ed" phase, too.

I still cosplay Ed, but it's in like version 6.0 now I think. I improve and add to it a little bit every year. I also still have the Anime Network t-shirt I won in the photo and regularly wear it to sleep in. I have since given up being a Mangina fan, though.
