Recently someone here made a new lolita forum which I and many others were excited about (EGL Forums dot Boards dot Net). However, there are only 56 members and not many posts. However, this place has lots of potential Let's spread the word about the forum, LJ has been so dead lately and FB is full of divided communities. Let's try to spread the word and kick some life into the forum!

That looks super inactive. Hardly any posts since May...

I really, really think that the 'outfit of the day' forum would be better if rather than people started a new thread for their outfits, there was a general thread.
Like 'outfit of the day', 'casual outfit for the day' 'meetup coords' etc.

A single thread per person is too much. It's intimidating to start your own, also.

I like this idea. (I'm worried about if my poor, shit internet can handle it, but I have high hopes!)

This sounds like a good idea.
For individual threads we already have DL any way.

lol thousands of members. Half of those if not more are milanoo bots. Its always the same 4 people posting and its hard to carry any sort of conversation. I joined over a year ago and was forced to just stop because it was beyond boring.

Admin checking in.
There could be a sticky post for OOTD, if someone wants to start off with a general OOTD post. Not sure what to do with the Coordinate SOS thread though, because I'm pretty sure people would be sick of seeing help threads in Lolita General begging people to essentially coord for them.

Maybe I could scrap the 'Coordinates and Photos' category, put a photos and coords forum under General, OOTD sticky (threads for picture heavy posts, meetup photos, photoshoots etc), and then a Coord SOS subforum?
Also, thank you OP, I was just about to start a thread about the forum! Sorry I haven't been updating it over the last few days, got tied up with some stuff.

Forums are all about figuring out what works. I've run several big forums over the years and there's always a great deal of tweaking that needs to be done once you figure out what works and what doesn't. :)

Personally I like the idea of seperate threads for say, OOTD, Meetups/Con pictures. If it expands to the point where it's being used a lot and hard to navigate through, making a seperate forum might be a good idea. Though i think individual threads for photoshoots would be best because photoshoots usually involve a good deal of pictures and garner a lot more comments rather than just one or two shots of what you wore today. If it were in one thread, it would be easy to loose after the thread reaches several pages.

I think I might just see how it all works out, and leave the photo forums as they are for the time being.

If anyone has suggestions of other things you'd like to see, shout!

And I'll repeat what I said before, how does this actually fix things? LJ might be dead, but it's not dead because it's Live Journal. Or more specifically, it's dead because it's not a site people make time to visit like social media sites. Why would they make time to visit a forum with far fewer members, and no mobile usability that's locked into the same problems (must register a specific account, not super mobile friendly, not developable).

The creator wrote a huge list of wishes, but failed to answer when I asked for a basic development plan or migration plan.

Ok, so, I'm a web dev, and this is like... a milanoo-quality website. This isn't better than LJ. If you want a real forum, and there is actual interest, draft an actual development plan. This isn't an improvement. It's just further decentralizing the community.

>> No.7057872

>>7057834

Even if you're a web dev you should know better than to sit around and bitch and get up and do something

Also lol at development plans for a project this small. A good designer and a forum software is all this project takes.

I'm a web dev too and if I had any free time I'd contribute to this project because its a good idea.

Am I the only one who isn't interested? 4chan is quite easy for me to use, I don't have to go through many sub forums to find something of interest, instead I use the catalogue.

No you're not alone. I have it a shot, but its just kind of emotionless since everyone seems to be edging around each other to be polite.

>> No.7058033

>>7058030
Or maybe they're just genuinely polite? I dunno, it seems to me the only people who are dissatisfied with the idea are the ones who shitpost and participate in vendettas and wank, and so don't want to attach a name to all their posts anyways. I haven't seen a single reason why anyone needs to "edge around" each other yet.

Also keep in mind none of us are familiar or friends yet, there's a certain formality when talking to someone you're unfamiliar with.

>> No.7058049

>>7057977
Not everyone is on 4chan, though, and you can't really make friends here?
As for how it's different than EGL, for some reason a lot of newbies seem to think EGL is like some big, bad place?

A week or two ago some girl in my comm made a "wahh, how do i post to the comm sales? i hope i did everything right, i'm such a scared, collar-wearing weeb" post on FB. Like, generally speaking, EGL is tame. Even 4chan isn't bad.

Maybe this forum would be less intimidating? Also, it'll be easier to find specific discussions with the format.

I joined but haven't posted anything yet. I'd really like to see it take off; I used to have tons of internet friends from places like Neopets and Gaia. Maybe I'm just being a nostalgia fag, but I miss forums.

Oh I'm sure there are some people who are generally sweet! It's just a personal preference, I prefer a board that feels a little looser. Ill be keeping an eye on the board though, it has potential.

First of all, what makes you think I'm not already working on something? That I might be irritated because this is going to fail due to a lack of proper planning, and people are going to be more skeptical later on when something is actually introduced that tries to actually meet some of the problems that this is supposed to address?

Secondly, the OP had a wish list that was really long, but is using a free platform that as far as I know can't support the changes they want, and is creaking under the small amount of traffic they have. They want to grow, but don't have a plan for how they are going to handle the growth and/or migrate to a service provider that can handle it. They wanted something like a whole social media platform + a bunch of other things that exist as whole independent sites (I don't remember the whole list, but I remember thinking it was like 4-or-so fully featured sites). What they were suggesting was not a tiny project.

I'm asking because I want the person to come back and give me a good reason to put my faith in this site and prove they know what they are doing. If they can do that, I'll put in some time/resources to help. But so far, all my questions have been ignored.

So frankly, I feel like this is probably some impulsive pipe dream of someone who's been in lolita about a year and isn't going to maintain it, which I see happen all the time, and if that is the case, then I don't see the point in investing my time in joining it.

You can't exactly tell what will happen with a forum until it is active and stays that way after the initial first few weeks to the first month or two of people joining. After that, it tapers off. The worst thing is putting all sorts of work into something that never gets appreciated or used. Or you know, adding a fuckton of forums that sit empty and nobody uses them.

I'll join, but then it'll be so obvious i came from cgl. Get some members from outside 4chan so I can disguise amongst them
