New pet peeve thread because the last one was clogged with dramu.

Denim jackets with lolita. Even in a country or punk coord, a blue denim jacket just doesn't work for me... It makes me think of 90's Full House style fashion...

>> No.6996794

>>6996783
My pet peeve is when people try to create new subdivisions of lolita that frankly make no sense and wouldn't really work. Like "country hipster lolita" girl here. I also remember some girl who was trying to make "dirndl lolita" a thing. Her accessories included a beer stein.

>> No.6996800

>accessories

There's another of mine.. I don't get why lolitas need accessories, as in things to carry around? It's not a costume, guys- you don't need a giant lollipop or stuffed animals or giant spoons or what-have-you!

Socks over tights. Only exception is OTKs or thigh-highs over plain tights for warmth during winter.

I honestly don't know which one bothers me more: sock over tights or bare legs. Like, at least wear some pantyhose or something, don't just go out with no socks or tights on.

>> No.6996814

Hipster glasses for no real reason in coords. I mostly see it with OTT Sweet and it just really annoys me. They don't match at all, they're big and clunky, not particularly cute or elegant. And they're just so overdone nowadays anyways.

>> No.6996822

>>6996807
I don't really have much of a problem with bare legs if they're wearing bobby socks with lace or whatever, but those socks or knee-highs over tights looks so fucking stupid. It's like you couldn't decide which you wanted to wear, so you wore both.

>> No.6996827

>>6996803
I guess 'props' would be the better word for it. I don't mind OTT stuff, although I myself don't usually do accessory overload either, but when it gets into prop territory (and not for a photoshoot), I just don't understand it.

Actually, that's sort of another pet peeve of mine, though I know it's just a personal weird thing and I understand why people like to do them: lolita photoshoots. It's one thing if you are actually a model, or are pursuing a modeling career, but I don't really get them as a big common everyone-does-it thing, especially since most lolita 'photoshoots' amount to shittily done candid pictures in someone's backyard.
But that's just personal tastes since I am generally not comfortable personally partaking of a lot of the more costumey elements of lolita, like wigs and huge amounts of makeup/circlelenses as well, and I associate photoshoots with my cosplaying only.

>> No.6996970

My pet peeve is when someone in your comm tries to make meet-ups but plan them for when everyone else has work/exams/cost a butt load of money/dietary needs aren't met.
Then this person complains that no-one likes her and everyone is bullying her and tries to re-plan and re-schedule despite other members explaining clearly why they cannot go.
e.g Everyone works part-time, mainly on the weekend and you wish for us to give up a days pay for a $70 half-day tea party and the only reason you suggest this place is because it'll match your fucking outfit.
If you're trying to do this to exclude certain people from the meet-up- just make a private one, no need to plaster it on the comm board.

I know this happens in every kind of club, but yeah I'm mad.

>> No.6996975

>>6996970

>Everyone works part-time, mainly on the weekend and you wish for us to give up a days pay for a $70 half-day tea party and the only reason you suggest this place is because it'll match your fucking outfit.

Sorry, I don't know who you're talking about but I plan expensive tea parties and I do it for two reasons.

1. This is an expensive hobby, I don't want to wear my expensive dresses to the park. This fashion is about elegance, and indulgence, not cheapness and mediocrity.
2. Most of the girls who can't afford these types of meets are new lolis who only own bodyline F+F and are obnoxious and it's an easy way to exclude them indirectly

I plan these meets because I want lolita to match up with my expectations of the fashion, high teas, and beautiful dresses, and constantly having meets that are in public parks, or free admission day in art museums just don't live up to that.

>> No.6996992

I don't think it's the expensive tea parties that are the problem but the lack of consideration for comm members

>> No.6997010

>>6996975
Those are both fair and understandable points and I agree with your opinion on them.
But as the anon stated above, it's the lack of consideration which is what I am bothered about. If the comm decided to do 4 big, grand, over-the-top meets per year it would be fine as you could budget for them and plan to have great outfits for them. But when there is short notice and poor planning it doesn't make for a great time.
You mentioned you plan events for your comm, do you have any advice you could offer so I could help this person out, they are genuinely starting to feel like an outcast but they just don't seem to be listening. Other girls have tried to 'lead by example' with doing an event that is expensive (High tea/early dinner with a tour of a local winery) however she didn't end up attending.

>> No.6997013

>>6997005
Depends on the work schedules, most of the girls are part-timers, stay at home moms or full time with set working days. We've managed before to do a weekday meet-up with no problems, it's just having the time in advance to let work/babysitter know.

If she's genuinely your friend, ask her why she wants a meet where she's holding it, or why that particular time (I always plan mine on a weekend and around a particular loli friend of mine's schedule). I had a few girls that kept missing mine and when they confessed that they had really wanted to attend I also took them into consideration. I don't think she means to be exclusive, which is what my meets started out with, it's just hard to take a group of one hundred or so girls all into consideration at once.

If you just get to know her a bit better and maybe talk to her about what times work best for you and her I think she'd be a bit more understanding. A lot of times for new girls, or for outcast girls, it's not picking up on social cues presented in a larger, diverse group of people.

What sounds like a great idea to you, may not be a great idea for everyone, and without any direct feedback, you'll never know otherwise.

Oh god, this. The only instance I've seen socks over thights work was black-on-black, because they blend into one surface. But pink kneesocks over blue tights are so garish and distractong I can't even.

Some other pet peeves:
-color combos that make lolita look instantly like a manga design and not actual clothing, for instance red+white, turquoise+pink, creepycute lavender+mint.
-not using any accessories at all. Not a huge fan of mixing in decora, but lolita looks just unfinished without at least a bracelet or necklace and some head accessories (this one should be duh, but it's not apparently).
-dull hair and no fringe with heavy head accessories. Not everyone can pull off brow hiding curtain, I get it, but you're just gonna look frumpy as fuck with that orphan's middle parting.

I was about to agree with you, but you sound like one of those anti-anime morons who's afraid of weebs.

-try hards who think it's cool to be anti-anime or anti-japan in general
-weebs who think that lolita automatically means you like anime

No, I watch some animes, though not a whole lot, and I treat them the same as any western animated series.
But outlandish clothes with no ground in reality seem to be the staple for certain types of anime art. Notice how color combinations I mentioned are pretty much NEVER used in regular fashion.

>> No.6997053

I also didn't agree about the color combos. Mint and lavender don't look anime at all. Neither do red and white together.

Also, is lolita a part of regular fashion? I don't see toys and dolls and candies on regular clothing.

not that anon but i instantly though blackxwhite or blackxred. and everything in this post shows you basically just hate sweet lolita so come out with it already. liking something doesn't mean you want it included in lolita but you do seem like you really hate the mixing of the two or even anything that can be considered overlap

Most people who enjoy any level of photography use photoshop. But what level are we talking about here? Simple stuff or magazine cover?

I do color enhancement/cropping. Sometimes I play with Photoshop actions for different mood effects for shits and giggles. I've also taken things out of backgrounds that I didn't want there (random person in the back of an otherwise nice photo, or cigarette butts on the ground). But I don't believe in shooping yourself to a size 2, or completely making yourself look like a different person. That really bothers me. No one is excluded, they just happen to be 17 and with no job so of course they can't join us for tea service in a luxury hotel. As >>6997021

My peeve is related and I've seen it done in two comms already. If you are planning a meet, it should be, idk, PLANNED. Like, Wednesday or Thursday is not thr time to announce a meet on Saturday. And if someone went and made a thread and poll to pick a day for a meet, got feedback, and then made an event for a meet, don't suddenly be all BUT THAT WAS THE DAY MY MEET WILL BE when you never told anyone or made an event.

Also someting annoying I've seen... Two meets in one day, for one comm, in the same town. Theres no reason for that. All you're doing is drama-mongering because you can't go. No one is going to have a tea party at your house instead of at the nice actual tea house.

also, when what should be a lovely tea house serves BAGGED tea. not even like, a custom blend of their own, straight up off-the-store-shelf crap. even if you think it would be too much to have a million individual pots on hand and a million bags of loose leaf on hand, then just draw from a sample of a few different teas; feature a black tea or a green tea, a decaf option, and then a specialty flavor. rotate seasonally. even just keep it at a weekly rotation or something.

I mean, if the subject has nothing to do with romance and attracting the opposite gender, give your opinion as a human being. Saying "i am a guy AND..." or "i am a girl AND I THINK..." is just assuming that your opinion is somehow more relevant because you are the opposite gender, and that you think the people who do said criticized activity do it to attract/please you.

If a random girl just came to a thread on /v/ and said "man, I find guys who play vydia to be so not hot" it would be just as stupid as a guy coming on a lolita thread to say "man, these dresses are not sexy at all". You don't play vydia to attract women. We don't wear our dresses to attract men.

Can you(and everyone else) stop fucking saying "we" I dress up to be attractive and to piss people off, the hell if I'm doing it just for myself it's too much work. I'm a fujoshi basically at home, but I wouldn't be caught dead anywhere not trying to look pretty for others, because it gives me a sense of self-gratification.

Honestly it's just as annoying to see people speaking for themselves and then go on saying 'all lolitas dress for themselves!!11" There's no shame in trying to look good for other people, and honestly it seems really defensive when someone says something like what you've written.

If you are wearing lolita to attract people, you should rethink about what is attractive or not.

Oh god that bitch pissed me off. Fuck if I know why every school just doesn't have uniforms. Inb4 price, public schools can get that shit comp'd.

Seriously though, I'm from the US, but why is it that every special snowflake fuck takes this sort of thing as a violation of their freedums, change your shit and get over it, we've all been there.

Just the other day I saw a girl make some long-winded rant about how just because she's not going to a "real college" that she won't be like the poor suckers going to get their four year degrees who won't have jobs before she does.

Or when people put down fat women and tell them shit like their breasts "don't count" and how they'll never find real love.

People are ASSHOLES...in case you haven't noticed.

Back in high school I wore j-fashion daily, and even in full Lolita outfit (simple but not towned down) nearly no one would bat and eye. Depend of the school I guess.

I don't like the idea of uniforms and I even agreed with her general point because I think a lot of things about many dress codes and schools' approach to them is fucked up, but her behavior and responses and insistence and disrespect put me off of her terribly.

My pet peeve is fugly hipster glasses with lolita. Even lolitas like Cadney who co-ord their glasses to their outfit somewhat look tacky to me.

I remember when the brads put underwear in a luckypack or something. They weren't that cute or lacy, just normal looking ones. So many panties for sale on the sales page

Theres a girl in my comm who threw a fit over a meet because she'd have to buy a bus ticket AND pay a whole $4 to get into a park. She also has planned meets at her house for the same day as regular meets at restaurants or tea rooms for "all the poor people like me"

No one ever goes.

When new young girls join a comm and then spam the heck out of the FB page asking if BL, F+F, and ebay are good places to buy lolita.

That one girl on the comm who views every clothing purchase as a chance to get one up on other people and likes to buy stuff from other peoples wish lists. This girl is also a fatty so she doesn't fit what she buys and then tries to scalp like a madwoman.

When your local sales comm is BL as far as the eye can see, all for prices that aren't much better than if you bought it brand new.

oh for fuck's sake. yeah, sure, it sucks when you're low on funds and you want to participate, but uhhh 1- save up, 2- if you're really that hard up for money, maybe you need to rethink your life situation.
