Frill is a couple of weeks away! What outfits are you planning? What events are you looking forward to? Any room parties in the works?

And, for once, can we please have a thread without everyone causing a fuck ton of drama? Please?

I love the fact that I originally didn’t know what I was going to wear to Frill… I was legitimately feeling awful about the whole predicament. But now all of these clothing options are springing up! And now I’m also going to be modeling for an indie designer so I have to put a coord together for the Fashion Show.
I’m drowning in frills.
But I’ll most likely be dressing in gothic or classic. I’m going to be wearing a toned down ‘sweet’ for the fashion show.

Speaking of Frill... Il Sangue announced that she's only sending one skirt due to issues with her machine or something. And it's that one that people wanted her to remake from before, too. There will be a lot of my accessories, but yes, I'm afraid this will be the only "big" item this year.

I'm getting the hook system on my machine looked at for some odd noises, and it also turns out that I'm missing some important attachments and accessories since I made the move out here to Seattle (which I didn't notice until this past week). Thankfully, all simple fixes, but just enough to stop me from finishing the other items I'd planned to send. I have a JSK laying in pieces, and had also started cutting for some solid colored items that I planned to embroider with hot air balloons to match. They'll be up for sale later.

For anyone going who wants to try and get this skirt at Frill, it is made for a 27in waist. There is no shirring or lacing this time around.

I do have enough of this same fabric immediately available for two more of that same skirt, and I actually found a very similar sailboat print. They're all a linen/cotton blend -- medium weight with a good drape, but thicker than your normal cottons.

I loved Frill. The organizers were really chill and personable. I also loved the 'Meet the Designer' panel. Those bitches were making me cry with their sentimental crap. A few of the designers themselves were tearing up.

It gave me a great perspective of what they have to deal with and how their brands are basically hobbies. They were stressing me out with the stories of what they have to deal with.

But that panel was by far my favorite panel. I found two indie designers I plan on pursuing in the future to make purchases from.

I have a few complaints but they were things Frill didn't have control over. Rude hotel staff and canceled panels. But after attending the feedback session and seeing how they altered for the better since last year, I'm sure they will take our constructive criticism to heart.

I had a really good time, just like last year. The VIP pass was definitely worth it for the convenient consuite food alone, not to mention the late night party and all the other perks. The panels I went to were great (especially the Cravat Club beer tasting) and I got to meet and make connections with a lot of really awesome people who I wouldn't have otherwise. There were lots of great coords. Shopping was plentiful. I loved the clothing in the fashion show and the MC was playful and entertaining. However, there were some problems ...

The panelists dropping out. Too many panels had to be canceled. I understand that sometimes things come up, this was a bit much. I hope Frill will screen/plan a little better this coming year to avoid the disappointment that I know a lot of people felt when they found out a panel on something they had an interest in wasn't happening.

DANCING! Pretty much everyone I talked to this year (and last) was sad at the lack of a "rave" style event.

The tea party. The food was blah and the tea itself was as well. "Selection" was very limited and some people went hungry because they couldn't find anything they could eat. I'm not even talking about people who have a million allergies and restrictions; easy things meatless, diary-free, and gluten-free diets. There was pretty much nothing for those people, except maybe the "salad", which I thought was a garnish because it was nothing but lettuce and the hotel staff came around with the dressing AFTER they had taken my plate. Last year Lupicia tea was great and the catering was very nice. The ball was dropped this time.

All and all, aside from the Sunday tea and a few missing events, I did enjoy Frill. I see that the directors are trying to find a groove and are actively trying to better the con, which is part of the reason why I will be going again next year.

Tea food/beverage quality.
How the hotel didn't deliver on a lot of promises (apparently the catering coordinator changed a few months before the convention and a lot of the things were lost in translation, like vegan options and tea quality).
Hotel staff attitudes.
Music rants/raves and some of the audio issues.
Cancelled panels and panel suggestions.
Staffing/badge checking issues (someone wanted to see more badge checks because some people were out and about and hadn't paid).
Rule accountability, and how some people were held more accountable for allowed displays in the Artist alley than others.
Suggestions on the dance, one girl apparently thinks all con dances should be raves...
There were a lot of compliments on the con suite foods and the general availability of it, as well as how nice the hotel was overall.
Hotel public bathrooms complaint- one had floors made of glue apparently- glad I didn't miss out on that one!
Communication- someone mentioned wanting to know times for things a little earlier, and someone else was planning their flight time by the Friday schedule.

Most of the complaints were about Frill After Dark. People didn't like it for one reason or another. Personally, I think the problem was the fashion show being so huge. I probably won't actually complain to them because it wasn't me that was impacted, but I have to say, I was slightly surprised that they didn't clear the room at the end of the VIP shopping. I know people are going to run a personal shopping service at it, and that's fine; they can't prevent people from re-selling something they bought to a friend as soon as they are out the door. But there was a girl in there and I overheard her ask to put something on hold and then, when they said no, at their suggestion she chose to stand around with it until her non VIP friend could come buy it when the VIP time ended, and I know there was a VIP girl behind her in line who had said she really wanted that item, and that just seemed messed up. Hi, I'd like to come forward and say that I was the girl who did this. At the time it seemed like I was doing a good thing, since it seemed a shame that VIPs were snagging all the good items before any of the regular con goers could get a chance to browse. It was a particular item that my friend was searching for that happened to be available from the fashion show. Out of my excitement I asked about holding it for her so that she'd get the item she really wanted. Looking back and reading your comment, I realize this isn't fair because people pay extra for the VIP ticket so that they can get the chance to shop first. If the staff had told me no then I would have been fine with it. I think it's definitely one of those things that need a concrete rule in place so that people don't get around the system. I just wanted to make it clear though, I didn't get paid or anything like a shopping service. It was really a misguided attempt at doing a good deed.

Good of you to come forward and tell your side, anon. I think the problem was that none of the staff anticipated anyone doing what you did, so there were no rules in place for it. I'm sure it'll be addressed for next year, though.

The hotel really dropped the ball on catering the tea party, I mean, really super dropped the ball. It was sad. The sandwiches and snacks available via con suites during the rest of the convention were so wonderful that I think everyone felt confident that tea would be amazing. It wasn't. We each got two partial sandwiches with either egg salad or chicken salad (I think) on a bed of salad. They didn't bring the salad dressing out until after most of the plates were already removed or salad had been eaten dry or added to the unimpressive sandwiches. There was also a cracker on the plate with some really strange paste on it that was incredibly nasty. The tea was cheap. There was honey and cream and such on the table. There were some blueberry pastry things but they were dry and not yummy. There were no vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free options. All plates were the same. Apparently there were supposed to be options, and also things like cucumber sandwiches, but the hotel catering failed miserably, and several girls went hungry from not being able to eat what was there. But the alcoholic beverages were amazing, available in the back of the room for a charge. The sweets were like a two-bite cheesecake with a garnish of either almonds, chocolate pieces, or blank, a petitfour (I think mine was raspberry), and a dollop of whipped cream directly on the plate.

It would have been the BEST idea to mention it to someone at the time, and point out that it didn't meet the standards. Like I said, I'm sure I looked through all the racks, and I missed it. Plus with allergies being the way they are, the person who passed it through might not have been able to smell it. That's a lot of stuff to check in and move to racks, I can see where they missed it with only a handful of girls checking in and tagging thousands of items. It shouldn't have happened, but if so many girls knew, why did not a single one of them raise it with a staffer/director? There was also a feedback panel. By all means send in a suggestion. But it could have been handled on the spot if one or two girls had pointed it out. Just sayin'.

Am I the only one who was disappointed with the fashion show? For some reason we thought the fashion show would begin at 8 right when the dance began but for some reason it was common knowledge with staff and models that it would be at 10 pm. I wish they would have clearly stated in the program when it started just because I left dinner with a friend early since I didn't want to miss the show. Also a lot of the models walked really fast and posed really awkwardly. A few girls I could tell were not use to heels and almost feel (esp the girl in the red shoes). I also felt the lighting was kind of bad from where I was sitting on the side so you could only take good pics if you were sitting directly in front. Maybe I'm being picky but I wasn't a fan of the music and some of the coordinates. Other than the fashion show, I had a lot it fun and would definitely go again next year, if they can afford it.
